Run away Maria

PRESENT

In the morning, some unknown birds stood on the swaying stalks, swaying their heads, shaking their wings, vying to show off the moving voices, and the sweet songs seemed to flow in the clouds, rolling on the green waves and running.

In the fresh, moist air, the sound is lingering, the small sound is like a light breeze blowing. The powder is swaying, the yellow lotus leaves just off the petals. The fragrance is overflowing, and many red wings and blue-headed owls are on it. Feifei stopped and stopped, always reluctant to leave.

Maria was up as early as 5:00 in preparation for work.

"Grandma!! Wacky!"

"Maria dear, hope you had a good night's rest?" She asked with a wide yawn that felt satisfying.

"Yes, mum. I believe you did too" she smiled at mum. Some people our age were dead or weak but mum was still strong. How incredible at 130 yrs.

"Yesterday I saw you at the palace and..and yes you took me with you. You got the dove?" The Grand Mac had changed. She wasn't that way yesterday. She felt she had memory loss and also confusion with time.

Maria did hesitate to finish her morning duty so she would take mum for a check-up. Thanks, it was obvious something was wrong. She would just sit in a Position and stare into the air vividly. Sometimes she wouldn't even respond to you

At the hospital, mum's original passport or ID card for verification at G Floor was asked for. Maria took every credential mum had concerning the hospital with her.

Any examination results or reports you have for the doctor to review were requested of her.

"Jasmine Johnson" the nurse called. She raised her hand for identification.

"Come in"

"Thank you". She rolled grandma to the door and unexpectedly, grandma shouted

'no! I'm not coming. It's not time to die yet. Take the knife away!"

She felt embarrassed but there was nothing she can do right away

"Mum, we will Know what's wrong with you, okay? I want you to be fine for me, Imogen" Maria gave a warm smile to Grandma. She was motionless without a smile staring into the thin air. Maria was worried, she was worried she would lose grandma, and she was worried that they would come for her. Her eyes grew misty and a warm tear couldn't hold back their pace. They rushed out like running water.

Grandma had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease which had grown worse over time.

"My dear mum is lucky she is alive. Over 2,000 people died of this illness last year. Alzheimer's disease is a neurological condition that causes memory loss and problems with how a person thinks and there is currently no cure." Doctor Jameson said with no sympathy.

"Doc, what can I do to sustain her life, at least, for a while?" She asked. Her handkerchief had been her support at the moment to wipe off the tears that couldn't stop flowing.

"Well, not to worry. There are things to do." He smiled and then took a memo from the drawer.

"Keep things simple. Ask or say one thing at a time. Secondly, Have a daily routine, so that she knows when certain things will happen. Reassure her that she is safe and you are there to help. Focus on her feelings rather than words. For example, say, “You seem worried.” Don’t argue or try to reason with her. Try not to show your frustration or anger. If you get upset, take deep breaths and count to 10. If it’s safe, leave the room for a few minutes. Use humor when you can. Forgive  her, if she paces a lot, a safe place to walk. Provide comfortable, sturdy shoes. Give her light snacks to eat as she walks, so she doesn’t lose too much weight, and make sure she has enough to drink. I hope you're taking notes" he asked

"Yes, doctor. I'm using my phone for that"

"Ok. Try using music, singing, or dancing to distract the person. Ask for help. For instance, say, “Let’s set the table” or “I need help folding the clothes. That's it" he smiled exhaling heavily.

" Thank you doc. I'll let you know if anything goes left."

"It's okay. Grandma, you'll be fine" he gave a warm smile.

As early as 6:30, a call came through Maria's phone disquieting the sleep that had smuggled its way into her eyes. Black circles beneath her eyes had become bruises from the continuous mop-up of tears. Grandma was her major concern now.

Her eyes locked on like a magnet, everything looks foggy. She had to squint to see. Her phone was just on the nightstand waiting for her to answer her call.

"This is too early now. Can't I just close my eyes without being Disturbed?" she said, stretching out her hand to reach for the phone and then it stopped ringing.

'Oh! Thank God. I wish I won't be called all through the day' she muttered with a frown on her face that gave her a threefold on her forehead.

Not long after she felt it was over, another call came through her phone, she got pissed off, not wanting to pick up; rolling from one end of her bed to the other. She felt too scared but Grandma would be Disturbed. Immediately, she remembered the 'to do' doctor Jameson gave her.

She wished all day would be for sleep but not possible looking at her background. She reached for her phone and surprisingly, it was Mrs. Tucker. She remembered not having to babysit today and without hesitation, she picked up the phone.

"Good morning Mrs. Tucker" she greeted politely with no atom of a smile. You would wonder if she got bad news or was fired.

" Good morning Maria. How are you doing?"

"I'm fine ma'am. How about you? And my kids" she grinned

" They are fine. But they Missed you".

"Awnnn! I missed them too. My regards to them". Maria who felt uneasy at first to take her calls found it joyful hearing from her boss.
