My First Shift

We arrived too a queue of cars on the driveway to the conference centre. When we adventurely pulled up in front we exited and walked towards the steps. I looked around and saw so many people. Men in suits and the ladies in beautiful gowns, all looking impeccably gorgeous. We walked into the room, whoever decorated it had done a wonderful job. There were fairy lights all around.  Tables were lined with flowers; there was a makeshift bar on one side of the room. Down the far end was a DJ sorting the music. Ballroom lights were shining from the ceiling.

Ashley took my hand and walked us through the crowd towards the bar. I looked around at all the people.  It was then that I had noticed our future alpha Conner Stone. He was 23 years of age and still hadn’t met his mate. He was handsome standing at 6ft 4 with muscle upon muscle, he had jet black hair. Longer on the top shaved o the sides. I had only ever seen him a few times, but man was he sex on legs.

As if he knew I was watching him he turned around, and our eyes met. Even from a distance it felt like his eyes were burning into my very soul. He turned away and carried on talking to the group of people he was standing with. I felt a bit funny inside and I didn’t really understand why I was feeling this way. Ashley grabbed my arm and led me to the bar, and we got drinks. I stood there looking around at the people, but my eyes always travelled back to where he stood.

We started to talk and generally look around to see who we may know. When we saw our Alpha step up onto the stage.

“Can I have everyone’s attention please.” He looked around and the voices started to silence.

“First of all, I want to thank everyone who has come to the coming-of-age party tonight.” People started to clap. Secondly, I know some of you will be turning 18 at the stroke of midnight. I mean to say that this party is all for you. Lastly, I just want to say I am very proud of you all and hope you all enjoy the rest of the party.” Everyone clapped and howled at our Alphas speech. Everyone resumed to what they were doing.

Ashley handed me my drink, we joined some other girls on the dance floor, we drank some more and danced the night away. Laughing and just well totally enjoying ourselves. It was 1 hour to midnight and I noticed I started to feel a little hot. I thought maybe it was from the drinking and dancing. But as time was getting closer to midnight things started changing.  I was dancing when I heard her voice.

“Hello Sasha.”

I quickly turned around looking at who could have spoken to me.

“Whose there?”

“It’s me silly, your wolf.”

“My wolf?”

“Yes, it’s finally nice to meet you.”

“Uh, um, yeah you to, what do I call you?”

She giggled, “You can call me Azelea.”

“It’s nice to meet you Azelea.”

I was smiling big. I could finally speak to my wolf. I was so so happy.

“Sasha, we need to go outside, it won’t be long until we start to shift.” She told me.

“Oh yeah, that’s right let’s go now.” I put my drink down and tried to find Ashley. When I couldn’t find her, I made my way outside. I was disappointed as Ashley said she would be with me when I shift so I wouldn’t be alone.  I noticed some of the others were already out at the front already.  I walked over to them and waited till we headed to the clearing inside the woods. The clearing was a piece of pack land that was near a waterfall. It was a point on the lands where the moon was strongest. It always glowed down on that very spot. It is said that is where our wolves feel their powers regenerating.

Someone shouted and told us to go to the clearing. We all made our way there. I realised that there was in fact around 12 of us that were shifting tonight. I didn’t realise so many shared the same birthdates. As we walked through the woods, I could see how brightly the moon was shining down over us. It wasn’t cold tonight but there was a small breeze brushing across the land, but it seemed warm. The clearing came into sight and wow when I say the moon lit it up like it was daylight. I felt different, stronger, clearer in my mind.

“Ok. Everyone listen up.” One of the Adults shouted to us. “Please go and strip down and come back out, you may wrap your self in a towel if you must.”

It didn’t bother most of us about nudity, but there were some that liked to be discreet. I happened to be one of them, so I walked over to the pile of towels and took one and walked behind a big oak tree and stripped down. I put the towel around me and folded my clothes into a pile. I walked out and took my place away from the person beside me and waited.

“Now, when you start feeling hot and tingles are running through your body, the change is starting, just relax and let your wolves through, don’t fight it. We will try and help you the best we can.” I watched as some more pack members walked out from the trees. I was just watching everyone when it hit me, searing pain immediately soared through my body. I gasped for air and started breathing faster.

“Sasha, I’m here don’t fight it, let me through, it will hurt but only for a few minutes.” Azelea told me. I could hear her voice slightly shake.

I felt my bones stretch and break realigning what will be my wolf. Sweat was pouring down my body as I fell to my knees. My neck stretching forward and my legs breaking. I shut my eyes closed them tightly and wished it was already over. I could hear voices but they were faded. I fell onto my side and then I heard a whimper. The pain instantly stopped. I slowly opened my eyes and moved my head. Everyone was looking at me.

“Sasha, are you ok?”

“Ye .. Yeh, I think so, is it over?”

Azelea chuckled, “It is.”

I slowly got up into a sitting position, people was still staring at me, I was confused, some had their hands over their mouths and gasps was coming from more pack members appearing from the trees. But I still didn’t see Ashley.

“Azelea, what are they looking at?”

Azalea didn’t answer instead she stood up. A little wobbly at first but she stood tall and wow she seemed huge, we seemed huge.
