A Risky Decision

***Clair's POV***

I walked out of the room, adjusting my dress. As soon as I came out, Luna Roxanne stood by the corner of the entrance with arms folded on her chest. 

“Is it done?” I simply nodded my head without saying a word. 

“Come with me,” she ordered. 

I trailed behind her, watching her every step. Her hips swayed from side to side and her heels made a click-clack sound on the tiled floor. 

We arrived in an empty room, and then she turned around to face me. I took my gaze downwards, afraid to look into her eyes at that moment. 

“Now that you've fulfilled your part of the bargain, we'll just wait and see how fertile you are.”

“B…but you promised to help my dad if I did this, Luna?”

“Shut it! You think sleeping with my husband is something to guarantee you success? You should be happy I gave you such a privilege. Do you have any idea how many women are dying to get this opportunity I just gave you on a platter of gold?”

She was mistaken. I never wanted it. It was all her plans from the very beginning. I never wanted any of it. 

“Listen good, you should be praying to the goddess to bless you with a pup. You are my personal maid, and you know how generous I can be to my people.”

“Yes, Luna.”

“Remember, no one is to find out about this. You know how cruel I can be if a word of this gets out.”

“I know, Luna. I promise this is a secret I'll take to my grave.”

“Good, now you can go back to your room and take a good bath. If possible, you should start resting from now on.”

“Yes, Luna.”

I waited for Luna Roxanne to leave before taking a step outside. I looked around and when I noticed I was safe, I quickly walked away from the vicinity. 

Getting to my room, I rushed into my bathroom, turned the heater on and immersed myself in warm water, inside the bathtub. I shut my eyes and took a deep breath. 

What happened a few hours ago got stuck in my memory. I could barely feel my legs. I can't believe I had given my virginity to someone else's husband and mate. To top it all, he happens to be the Alpha of the Crestville pack. 

A pack that is greatly respected because of Alpha Cannon. This is a man I dare not look in his eyes. Not because he was too dangerous to look at. I feared my forbidden feelings for him. Tears ran down my cheeks when I recalled the purpose for all this. 

In the end, I'm just a baby carrier who would not even have the right to hold her baby. But this is for the greatest good. At least my dad will get his treatment. 

I immersed myself into the water for a few minutes and only came out when I noticed I couldn't hold it anymore. 

At this point, I can only pray that the plans work out for good and I really get pregnant, so my sacrifices wouldn't be in vain.

Two weeks passed and I still didn't feel anything. Luna has been checking every two days to be certain I'm eating properly. The other maids get jealous when they notice how I was being treated. Little did they know that all this was for a reason. 

A secret that could cause a terrible disaster. 

Since it was a weekend, I decided to do the chores even though Luna had advised me not to carry out major works. Since I'll be using the washing machine, I don't see anything wrong in what I'm about to do. Just as I was headed to the laundry room, I saw no one else but Alpha Cannon and his men walking towards my direction. 

Immediately, my heart skipped. It wasn't like I did anything wrong, why was I suddenly going into a panic. At that same moment, what happened two weeks ago flashed before my eyes. I shook my head to get the thoughts off my head, but I suddenly became dizzy for reasons I couldn't tell. 

I lost my balance that same moment, but way before I hit the ground, someone suddenly came to my rescue, grabbing me firmly by the waist. I raised my head up only to be met with a pair of gray eyes staring down at my blue ones. 

Alpha Cannon! Immediately, I went wide in shock and quickly wriggled away from his grasp. 

“I'm… I'm so sorry, Alpha. It was my fault for not looking at where I was headed,” I pleaded. 

“Nonsense! You are probably tired and need to rest.”

Huh? What the hell was he saying? 

“You can all go ahead of me. I'll join you soon,” he said over his shoulders, and his men immediately walked past us without saying a word. 

Why did he send them away? And why isn't he leaving with them? I quickly looked behind me to see if there's any maid who might be watching us. The last thing I wanted presently was to get reported to Luna that I was having a conversation with her Alpha. 

“There's no one around, so stop looking.”

My goodness! How can he tell everything I was thinking about? 

“Do you perhaps need my services, or you wish to send a message to your Luna through me, Alpha?” I inquired without looking at his face. 

“Why are you always looking downwards when you're in front of me, Clair. I can barely see your eyes this way?"

His words made my heart flutter, and I wish I could give myself a loud smack for feeling this way. 

I slowly raised my head up and met his eyes. He looked deep into mine as though he were trying to find what's not holy in them.

“I just want to talk to you, not because I have a message for your Luna.”

“Oh,” I muttered without saying another word. 

“Tell me, Clair, are you avoiding me?”

“Huh? Of course not, Alpha.”

“Stop calling me Alpha. Call me Cannon. I told you the first time we met.”

I looked around us once more just to be certain I'm safe having this kind of conversation with him.

“Alpha Cannon, to be honest, I'm not trying to avoid you. It's just that we can't be seen talking anymore, especially by Luna.”

“I met you first. And Clair, I don't care what you are, I'm only frustrated-” Suddenly he began walking towards me, but I was quick to move backwards. Please don't come any closer, Alpha, I beg you.”
