I was preoccupied, running for my only chance to enter the palace and at that very moment I collided with a hard body. The impact was so strong that it knocked my breath away.
Instead of falling flat onto the floor, a strong hand wrapped around my waist and prevented me from falling. His grasp was hard and protective.
I looked into his eyes. It was him! My heart leaps with joy. But our closeness stirred something strong and intoxicating inside me. I quickly distanced myself from him.
“Why are you running like your life depends on it?” he asked with a raised brow.
“I’m sorry for my clumsiness, your highness,” I said, bowing my head in shame. “I want to go with you to the capital, please take me with you. Please don’t leave me,” I begged desperately, then I lowered my gaze. The desire to find out what happened to my sister consumes my entire being. I’m ready to face any danger waiting for me as long as I can find her.
He didn't say anything.
Why is he so quiet?
I raised my head and met his penetrating gaze.
He has been studying me. What is he thinking in his head right now? I wish I was a mind reader.
“Alright, you can come with me but on one condition,” he said, his eyes glinting with malicious intent.
What does he want this time? My body? I’m willing to give it to him as long as he brings me to the palace with him.
“What condition, your highness?” My heart beat wildly in my rib cage.
“My envoy has already reached the last pack, but instead of surrendering just like what your pack did, they are not willing to surrender. They are ready to defend their pack to death. There’s going to be a bloody war between them and my men. You might get killed in the process…” he said, his voice carrying foreboding, a warning to me that if I still insist on coming with them, I might meet my end.
“You are worried that I might die? That I might be injured during the battle?” I asked in a murmur.
"Exactly," he replied.
“I’m going to be extra careful, your highness,” I responded bravely.
“Honestly, my men are already tired of killing and fighting. If a peaceful surrender can be achieved, I’ll take it. Since you are so capable…if you can convince the last pack to surrender peacefully then I will take you to the capital with me. How about that?” he said, his eyes gleaming.
My breath faltered.
He locked yes with me, sending me a dangerous challenge meant to intimidate me. But I already made up my mind, I will accept the challenge despite the risk involved.
“You are going to feed me to the wolves?” I asked, already imagining the danger I will be facing later on.
Then he revealed his true motive behind the challenge which was intimidation. “Yeah, that’s more like it. Going there might cost you your life. But if you stay here with your pack, you are guaranteed to live a comfortable and pampered life. Choose wisely. Once you arrive at the Blood Canine Pack, they might kill you instantly."
I fell into deep silence for a few minutes, trying to evaluate my chances of survival. The worst thing could happen. I might die on the way to the capital. But it's better to do something foolish once in a while than wait endlessly. I will never know what happened to my sister if I don't leave my comfort zone and venture into the unknown.
“Alright, challenge accepted,” I said, not backing down from his challenge. I only need one chance. I must persevere no matter what.
He looked me hard in the eyes. “Are you sure?”
“Yes, your highness,” I responded in a determined voice with no sign of fear in my eyes.
He smirked. “A woman like you should choose safety and comfort. Why go through the hassle of sending yourself to death?"
“I have my reasons…”
“What's the reason?” he asked curiously.
“I don't want people to die for something that can be avoided. We only have one life. Why waste our lives fighting and engaging in violence when we can co-exist peacefully with each other? If I can convince the pack’s leader to surrender peacefully, no one will die. Many lives will be spared if I succeed in my mission.” I said with a serious face. I hope he believes my honest intentions.
He nodded his head. “I see…you are being consistent with your reasoning. You don't want anyone to die in a bloody war that can be avoided. Good reasoning. But…it will only work if the pack leaders share your sentiments. Then our invasion would be peaceful and another bloody war could be avoided. But bear in mind that people don’t think and act like you do. They have their own principles in life…”
“Yes I know that. I know the danger involved, your highness. Thank you for worrying about my safety.” I sighed inwardly. Does he really care about my safety at all or is he just testing me? He was still trying to uncover the real reason why I was so desperate to go to the palace with him.
“I will remind you again…the last pack are known to be fierce fighters. Surrendering is not in their blood. How are you going to defend yourself when you enter the pack’s territory with no weapons to protect you and you don't even have a wolf to transform with?" he stated the obvious, studying my face closely, trying to see the fear manifesting in my face.
I stand my ground, my face is serious, no visible signs of fear and hesitation. “I’m good at convincing people. I can make them surrender. I’m confident that I will survive the challenge,” I said in a determined tone.
He chuckled in amusement. He probably thought I was just pretending to be brave, then he said, “I admire your bravery, but you are still so foolish and stupid. You can’t convince everyone. So… what are you going to do if they don’t want to surrender peacefully? Remember, you have no weapons. Are you going to poison them again just like you did to your husband?”
I lowered my gaze. “If I have access to their kitchen I might do the same, but using poison to get rid of an enemy might not work this time. I will try my best to preserve people's lives. I’m a healer. I will heal people, but I don’t necessarily kill people if there are other ways to accomplish my goal.”
“What are your hidden talents? Your hidden weapons?” he asked me directly.
I sighed and responded, “Nothing. I have no hidden weapons or talents.”
“I will not send you any of my men. You are going there alone unprotected as my envoy for a peaceful surrender. Do you still want to take the challenge?” he asked, observing my face closely.
I could see in his eyes that he was getting tired of our conversation. He failed to convince me to stay and back out of the challenge he had cunningly created. “Yes, I accept the challenge, your highness. Please don’t worry about my safety. I will return to your side alive and well,” I assured him.
He smirked. “You are so foolish…but stupidly brave." He paused for a minute, then finally said, “Alright, get ready. We will leave in one hour.” He turned around and walked away.
I released the breath that I'd been holding inside. If I can pass the challenge with flying colors, I’m on my way to the palace.
Now the next question is…how to convince the Blood Canine Pack to surrender peacefully?
I really need to formulate a plan carefully and meticulously.
One false move...
One simple mistake is all it takes and I will surely die without accomplishing anything.
~ Zella~No, it is absolutely wrong! It's stupid to wait for my death just like this. I need to do something!I met the dying couple's gaze and said, "Your majesty, please try your best not to die yet. I'm going to get royal elite soldiers here to help bring you out. OK?"I didn't wait for their answer. I bolted towards the door and ran towards the gate, opening it wide.I yelled at the elite soldiers waiting outside. "I need six men to help me get the king out of the house. He was poisoned and is dying. Come quick!"Six men rushed to the house and they quickly lifted the dying Alpha King and the rest picked up Aunt Florinda and we immediately left the house.A few seconds after we stepped outside the gate, the house was immediately covered in thick black smoke and flames erupted afterwards, encompassing the entire house. That's when I knew one of them had finally died.I don't have time to watch the house crumble into dust. I have an emergency to take care of.When I checked the roya
~Zella~"Follow me to the basement," the old man replied calmly."Why would I follow you to the basement? I want to see the Alpha King alive! Show me the Alpha King first!" I demanded."That's why you need to go to the basement with me because Master Raven, Madam Florinda and the Alpha King are in the basement. They are waiting for you there," the old man replied flatly, no hint of urgency or fear in his voice."But you told me that they are here waiting for me in the living room, but now they are in the basement?" I asked suspiciously."OK, fine. If you don't want to follow me to the basement, wait here. I will just inform them that you don't want to go down to the basement to join them," the old man said and turned around."Wait, I'll go with you to the basement," I finally relented."Good. Follow me," he said and walked in the direction of the kitchen. When we arrived there, the old man stopped in front of the closed door and opened the door. "Go downstairs, you will see them soon.
~Zella~One hour later. The Alpha King and Luna Queen arrived at Alpha Declan's house. They rush to Alpha Declan's room and have a conversation with him for almost half an hour. Then they also went to Alpha Rhett's room.I left the main house quietly and waited in the garden at the back of the house. No matter what happened today, Master Raven should be arrested and punished to death for ruthlessly attacking Alpha Declan's house last night.I didn't wait long enough. Roy, Alpha Rhett's assistant came to me and said, "Luna, you are needed in Alpha Declan's room right now.""OK." I rose to my feet and followed him back to the house. When I reached Alpha Declan's room, the Alpha King and Luna Queen were wearing grim expressions on their faces. I can relate to the sadness and worry they are feeling right now. They must be overwhelmed with the feeling of shock and disbelief that their very own relative was trying to harm and kill them."Greetings to you, my King and Queen," I bowed my head
~Zella~I have plenty of time to ponder about my life goal tonight when I go to sleep. For now, I will devote my time and attention to healing the injured.I went to Alpha Rhett's room and talked to him because he was already conscious. I checked the condition of his wounds. "How are you feeling today, Alpha?" I asked. He smiled. "I just woke up this morning. I thought I had actually died. But I'm feeling better now. Honestly, I feel like I have been reborn. The feeling that you died for a few minutes and came back to life again. I really feel that," he said."You actually died. You have no pulse and you are not breathing anymore when I reach your side to check your condition. But the moon goddess is kind. She resurrected you and gave you back your life. Before your brother fainted, he asked me to save you first, so I did what he asked me to do," I said, adjusting the pillow beneath his head."Thank you, Zella. I have to thank my brother and the Moon Goddess as well for saving my life
~Zella~The following day I woke up late at 10:00 in the morning considering that it was almost 4:00 am when I fell asleep last night.Sigh.I glanced at my nephew. He was playing with his toys on the floor. He recovered fast from the trauma last night which is good. His nanny was folding clothes in the closet."Amy, how's everything down there?" I asked, rising fast out of the bed."The living room was already clear of blood stains and the wounded were being taken care of by other maids," Amy replied."Good," I said and left the room after using the toilet. When I made my way downstairs, the broken furniture was already removed from the living room and put somewhere. The blood on the floor and walls was gone, the only thing that remains are the traumatic memories lingering in my head.I took a deep breath and proceeded to the kitchen. There is still hot food left. I sat on the chair and ate my breakfast to sustain my energy."Luna, can I sleep for a few hours? I'm so sleepy, I haven'
~Zella~I groaned in annoyance. Here we go again! The naughty Goddess is back at her scheming again, so damn annoying!Feeling tired, frustrated and defeated, I said, "Bring it on."'Within six months, you will die and I will resurrect you so you can join me at my place and serve me for eternity. How's that?' The Moon Goddess repeated her mouthwatering offer again.'I will agree if you also meet my condition. I want my brother Zion alive and my sister alive for a long time. Can you do that for me?' I said, breathing heavily, with no other option left at my disposal. I just want everything back to the way it was before the carnage took place.'Sure, no problem. I will grant all your wishes today. See you in six months on the day you will die,' the Moon Goddess said and heavy silence followed.Like a zombie, I went back to my house, grabbed my medicine bag and went back to Alpha Rhett's side and began administering medicine to his wounds. Then I entered the house and worked non-stop lik
~Zella~I was relaxing in the garden, sipping coffee when Beta Martha arrived and announced the bad news."Luna, the Alpha King's men are coming. They are about to invade our pack and demand total surrender. They will annihilate our pack and burn everything if we don't surrender!" Martha said in a
~Zella~"How is it?" he asked, when I reached his side."Alpha, I made it. I successfully convinced my men to surrender peacefully to your highness," I replied breathlessly and added, "All the weapons are now outside the gate and my men are waiting for you to come and take over the pack and do as y
~Zella~I walked calmly towards the iron gate. The gate that protected our pack from the outsiders. I was deeply worried about Martha. She must have taken all the blame and was the receiver of the men's rage. Too late to realize my mistake.Sigh.When I arrived at the gate, the men had their weapon
~Zella~Alpha Declan snorted, ignoring my poison claim. He thinks I might be bluffing, right? How could I have poisoned my own husband? In his mind, it's hard to believe.A muscle in his jaw twitched. "Ready to surrender? Are you sure? My emissary told me that your husband appeared hostile and want
