CHAPTER 57

Athena and I arrived at the ground where all the pups had gathered for their first shift. There were rowdy murmurs everywhere and you could smell the excitement and anxiety in the air.

As Athena and I walked in, the murmurs quieted down but looks of surprise showed on everyone’s faces. No doubt they all had one question in mind. Why was a wolf from another pack here on the full moon? Soon, the mumbles had resumed.

“She’s my girlfriend.” I said in a voice loud enough to be heard by all. “And I will kill anyone who talks bad about her.”

The entire grounds was silent in an instant. My command must have sent fear through them. “Also, no one is allowed to talk about her being here tonight.” I said, remembering the promise I made to Athena.

I turned to look at Athena and noticed that she looked quite uncomfortable. It was the first time I had given a command with a penalty in front of her. She must have been startled. I guess the fact that she was the r
