Chapter 6

DAWN:

It took me a few seconds, but I was able to sneak in behind the first warrior roaming free. Swiftly, I drive deep into the side of his neck the silver knife that I found among Thomas's stuff.

The warrior couldn't even put up a fight because the silver was already taking effect. Before he goes down to the floor, I pull the knife out of him, ready to go against the next warrior.

"Did you just kill someone?" Russell questions me, his tone reflecting just how stunned he is at the sight he just witnessed. Not like he was here with me when it happened.

"Keep it quiet, young Alpha. We don't want to alert the rest," I caution him, watching through the side to see if anyone was coming in.

When I hear approaching footsteps, I quickly pull him to the side with me, allegedly bumping my body into his in the process as we both take cover the same position.

Just at that time, another warrior walked in. I think he notices the lifeless bloody body of his colleague. I could see that he was about to alert the others so I lunge at him with the knife aiming for his face.

I was only able to graze his skin but the turbulence was enough to keep him on guard now. And well, bring in the others as well. I should have been more careful.

"This is the end of the line," Gamma Connor, who just came in with the rest of the warriors, says to me in a stern tone. Slowly, I withdraw away from them with Russell still behind me.

Gamma Connor's sternness turns to anger the moment he looks down to see the body of his man on the floor. I could tell that he was going to do anything to kill me off this time and there wasn't enough room for me to escape his reach.

When my back hits the wall, I feel something like a stud that hits me, making me flinch in the process. I would have fully reacted to it until I suddenly recall what it is.

"I won't ask you to surrender yourself this time around. I'm going to take you in myself. Only if I don't feel the sudden urge to have a taste of your blood for what you did to my warrior," Gamma Connor threatens, his voice oozing a lot that I couldn't even pinpoint.

"Where are the rest of the warriors, Gamma Connor? Sent them off to report to your Alpha about what has happened?" I quiz after noticing that only three warriors were left with him now. Although it was strange, I would say it's a plus for me.

"There was no use trying to bring the whole party on you this time around. This time, it's not going to take me much to get to you."

Instead of answering him, I look toward Russell beside me.

"When I say 'now', you move away."

"To where?"

I raise my brows. "Away from where we're standing. And you had better be quick about it."

"What are you two plotting?" Gamma Connor questions.

With a nod toward Russell, I say, "Now!"

Right before I jump away from the side I'm standing, my hand which I stylishly placed behind me clicks on the supposed stud on it.

It wasn't a stud. It was a button for a trap that Thomas placed in his room a long time ago. He always had this fear of being attacked when he was most vulnerable in his room which was why he set up the trap that was going to affect the Gamma and the warriors right this instant.

The top of the apartment immediately starts to collapse right before I get to Russell whom I had to grab from behind and with full force, use my body to push us out of the room through the wall that was already collapsing.

"Did you know about all that before?" Russell asks me as I stand up from him, the knife now in my hand.

"Yes. My best friend set them," I tell him. "Let's hope he's still alive," I say that one silently while hoping nothing bad has happened to Thomas.

The damage was a lot on me but it didn't stop me from standing up quickly. I could tell that my ankle was sprained now but I force my legs toward the rubble that has happened.

Swiftly, I stab at the three warriors, finishing them off before they could stand up. I aim the knife at the Gamma too but my hand is blocked before I could even do anything to him.

"You thought you were going to have it easy?" he says from underneath the rubble as he applies pressure on my wrist which I have now supported with my other hand.

"Of course," is my response before letting go of the knife which starts to go down at him. But sometimes, I seem to underestimate the potentials of beings higher than me. Because before the knife could touch him, he was away from there, landing a upper cut to my face which knocks me backward.

The Gamma didn't even give me the time to relax myself as he was right in front of me with his fist aiming for my face. I quickly dodge that and throw a punch of my own which only hits the air.

For a few seconds, I thought I was knocked out completely. Didn't realize it was just me losing all the air in my lungs from being punched straight to the guts. It was enough to send me to the floor with no other defensive measure.

"You'll pay for this!" Gamma Connor screams as he sits on me and start to dish out hit upon hit across my face.

It got to a point where I couldn't see anymore because the blood from the cuts in my face had gotten to my eyes. I was at the Gamma's mercy and I couldn't even think of anything else to do.

There was a semi swift movement that has the Gamma standing up from me. I was able to see him at the last second shove Russell aside who then crashes into the wall.

A loud groan of pain from Russell ignited an anger in me and I wildly jump on the back of the Gamma who was about to focus on Russell. I start to bite into his neck but he pushes me off from him. Luckily for me, I land right beside where I drop the knife.

One look at it and I have picked it up before lunging at the Gamma once more. He sure didn't see this coming as the first thing I do once I was right in front of him was to pierce the knife right into his skull.

I didn't let it go. Instead I keep pressing on to it ensuring it goes deep into his skull while blood drips down his face as he stares wide eyed at me.

His weight as he goes down on his knees has me leaving the knife alone as I watch life seep out of him. And when he finally collapses face-first to the floor, I get the chance to finally relax myself a bit.

"Russell," I mutter, remembering the young Alpha that was flung aside not too long ago by the now dead Gamma.

Instantly I rush to his side to see him still lying on the ground in pain. "How weak can you be that you're still in pain from what happened?"

There was a look of fear in his eyes when he says, "You think it's something ordinary to be thrown across two times in a row?"

"Hey! You should be thanking me! If it hadn't been for me, you won't have this to say at all!" I rebuff but he responds with a groan.

As I watch him wriggle in pain, I couldn't help but feel disappointed. For a man his size, it was devastating to see him act like a sissy. I don't even know the right word to use to quantify his act.

For a moment, a wave of self judgement washed over me. A feeling of doubt crept into me. And for the first time since I took it upon myself to find the rightful heir to the position of Alpha of the Red Moon pack, I have to think I made a terrible mistake.
