Chapter 7

RUSSELL:

"That hurts," I mutter as the lady applies some green stuff on my bruised arm.

The frown I get from her in return as she looks up at me briefly is second to none. More like she was trying to stare deep into my soul.

She continues what she's doing before taking out a piece of clothing that she had torn from a full one. She then starts to wrap it around my arm roughly.

"Can you take it easy?" I lament this time with the way she was handling me.

"Keep quiet and let me finish what I'm doing!" she snaps and it was enough to shut me up. She really is one crazy person.

Minutes later and I'm out of her reach finally. I couldn't be more than happy to be free from this crazy woman who got me in this position in the first place.

I stand up from the ground, my hand clutching where I got treated. I watch as the lady stands up too. She begins to look into the pouch she has strapped on her while I take a look around the environment we're in.

Since we got out of that rumble of a house that we got attacked, we've been walking around aimlessly. It wasn't until I couldn't bear the pain in my arm anymore did she decide that we stop to get it treated.

Now, we're in the middle of nowhere, only surrounded by thick woods and nothing else.

"Dawn."

I hear the lady speak, drawing my attention back to her in the process.

"What did you say?"

She was still sorting whatever it was in the pouch she had on her when she says, "My name's Dawn. Call me that from now on."

"Okay. So, Dawn, do you have any idea where we are to go from here?"

Her eyes are up now and the look of scrutiny she has always had is back now. It felt a bit judgemental but I didn't let it faze me.

"Why? You scared, young alpha?"

"I just need to know if I'm safe. Stop calling me that too..."

"You're safe, all right. About an hour ago, you weren't. Now you are. But have I gotten a 'thank you' from you yet? No. Instead all I've been getting is that look of distrust from you like I'm going to harm you or something."

Not liking the tone she was using against me, I rebuff, "I'll remind you one more time that I never asked you to take me away from my place. I never asked to be brought into a situation where my life would always be at risk. And do I need to remind you also that I saved your life too or you would have been dead meat?"

She sneers. "You saved my life? Spare me the crap. You only put yourself in harm's way with what you did. Look at you being all sissy just because of a little cut you sustained."

"I'm not—"

"And don't you give me the bull about not being okay with me bringing you here! One way or another, you were destined to do this. I only did what was best for the pack."

I became tongue-tied. There was no words coming to my head that could aid me in getting something back against her.

Am I really a sissy? I don't even know what I truly am but that word used to quantify me was too much of a word.

"You still haven't my question. Where do we go from here?" I ask, already getting impatient with standing in here with no idea of a destination. Not like I knew where we were headed when we walked into that portal then.

"I'm sure the pack will find out soon about what went down at my best friend's apartment. Which means the pack warriors will be on our tail soon. So, for now, we cannot be seen out in the open. At least until we find a way out of the Red Moon pack."

"You must have thought of this before now but why didn't use that thing you used to get us somewhere far away from this place?"

Her eyes narrow. "And risk being caught for trespassing? No way," she declares.

"I don't see any difference at the moment."

"This one is different. I know my way around here and the only way I get caught is if I slip up. Geez, I shouldn't be explaining all this to you." She turns away from me and then starts to head forward. In all sense, she was leaving me.

I quickly follow from behind her after realizing she didn't even care that she just left me to be by myself.

"Did you plan on leaving me all alone?" I query her with a displeased tone.

"You have legs, don't you? Then use them whenever you see me walking," was her response to me which was evidently a subtle jab at me.

"I do have legs. But it's not like I know anywhere around here, do I?"

"Twelve years really had you forgetting all about your pack. That's pathetic."

"Hey! What the hell was I supposed to be doing out in the woods when I was little?"

She basically ignored me after that but I keep following while hoping she has somewhere in mind that would be safe for us to stay. I don't want to find myself in the same situation like we did the other time.

After about an hour of walking which already got my knees weary, we find ourselves out in the open. Buildings could be seen and so were different other things that could classify as us being in a settlement as I definitely couldn't call this a city.

"Where is this place?" I ask Dawn who hasn't said anything.

"The main pack area," she says.

"But I thought you said we shouldn't be seen in the open."

"And I also said that it will be effective when they find out about my best friend's apartment. Other than that, I can't even be out in the open too because of what I did just to get you here."

Her words weren't even sounding confident and neither was it looking like something good would be coming out from all this.

"So what are we going to do now?"

Instead of a definite response, all she says is: "I don't know."
