Alpha's Dilemma: Love vs. Duty

ALPHA GABRIEL RIVER'S POV

"Then step down as Alpha immediately and take Elena away with you." Were the words from my mother making everyone surprised?

"Mother!!!" I yelled aloud standing up from the throne, how could she bring such suggestions when she knew how hard I worked to be there?

"Yes Alpha Gabriel, that is the only way." She said with a firm look on her face, she was going hard with her decision.

"You can't say that mother," I said.

" You gave me no choice, I can't watch you take the wrong step." She said,

"You can't dethrone me yet!!!" I exclaimed, still surprised that my mom was ready to stab me in the back because of Elena.

"I can!!!! If you are forgetting. I am still the queen and you have not been made the official Alpha.." she said, making the elders nod positively to get words.

I tried to hide the frustration I had in me but it wasn't working.

" Mom," I called gently, totally out of options, she was using my greatest weakness against me and I still wasn't able to do anything about it.

"Let go of her for good or everything you worked so hard for would all go down the drain." She warned. Beta Brent walks closer to me.

"You were very much aware that Elena couldn't be your Luna, no one would ever accept her. She was nothing but an object of the past." He whispered to me, I stared at him angrily ignoring everything he said.

"You have until Princess Bethany's arrival." My mother announced before leaving.

"Elders, you can't agree to this," I asked the elders who were also ready to leave.

"We had already discussed this before coming." They all responded before leaving and the same with everyone else. Leaving me alone in the hall.

This wasn't what I expected from them, they are doing all this just because she is a maid. How can they be so heartless about it, I can't step down from being the Alpha. I worked so hard to get here and now they want me to give it all up.

I hurriedly searched the palace for Elena, desperate to find her and reassure her that I wouldn't let go of our love. But as I approached the maid's quarters, I saw a different sight that shattered my heart into a million pieces. Princess Bethany had already arrived, standing in the middle of the maids, a regal air surrounding her.

I felt anger boiling within me, knowing that my mother had staged this and brought Bethany here to try and break me away from Elena. How could they be so heartless, so cruel?

I pushed past the other maids, my eyes locked on Elena. She stood there, her face pale and expression filled with sadness. The tears in her eyes mirrored the pain in my heart.

While I proceeded towards Elena my mom walked in with beta Brent behind her, making me stop immediately and hiding behind the door.

"Princess Bethany, I am so happy you decided to honor my invite." My mom said to her before planting a kiss on her cheek.

"I couldn't miss the opportunity to see Alpha Gabriel for anything." She replied.

" Don't worry, he has good news for you tonight. Make sure to put on your best for tonight's dinner. You would be amazed at the news he has for you." My mom assured her as they both hugged each other one last time but none of that mattered to me, all that mattered to me was Elena behind them. I just need to talk to her, for the few years I have had known Elena. One thing about her was she always wants to be assured about your sincerity or she loses hope instantly.

It was quickly time for the dinner trap and I still wasn't able to talk to Elena, a few servants dressed me up while I stood still in front of the mirror. I stared at my reflection but all I saw was Elena.

Princess Bethany walks into my room unaware and hugs me from behind making me turn around and push her away while the servants all rush out.

"What was the meaning of that Bethany?"I asked.

"I missed you." She cooed, holding my waist tightly.

"Stop saying nonsense, there is nothing between us," I said pushing her away but all she does is scoff bringing out a necklace.

"I want you to accept my little token of love please, your mother said you won't reject it." She said, handing the necklace to me.

I stared at the necklace in Bethany's hand, my mind racing with thoughts. I knew that accepting the necklace from her would only hurt Elena even more. But I also knew that if I refused, it could ruin any chances of finding a way to protect Elena and our love from my mother's plans.

Reluctantly, I reached out and took the necklace from Bethany's hand. As soon as I placed it around my neck, a strange sensation washed over me. It felt as if a part of me was being pulled away, disappearing into thin air.

I looked around in panic, I saw Elena's figure appear but slowly she faded, I rubbed my eyes in panic searching for Elena. But to my horror, her figure was fading away, as if she was slowly being erased from existence. I felt my heart wrench in pain as I realized what was happening.

"No!" I shouted, my voice filled with desperation. "What have you done?!"

Bethany smirked, a malicious glint in her eyes. "I told you, Gabriel. You have to let go of Elena. She is nothing but a hindrance to your future."

Anger surged through me, fueling my determination. I refused to accept this cruel fate that had been forced upon us. With all the strength I had left, I lunged at Bethany, grabbing her by the shoulders and shaking her.

"You will undo this! Bring her back!" I yelled, my voice filled with a mix of anger and grief. But before

I could take another step everything became blurry and I blanked out.
