MasukElsin Waveridge POV
"You never linked your wolf-comm frequency with mine," Alaric Westbourne said, his voice deep and commandingly low as Elsin Waveridge turned on her heel to leave the cobbled steps of the Elders Hall. "How am I supposed to reach my female when the pack borders close?"Elsin froze, her skin prickling as her dormant wolf stirred under the sudden, possessive weight of his tone. She reached into her leather satchel and pulled out her silver mind-link transceiver. "I forgot."
Alaric stepped closer, his broad shadow completely swallowing her. He tapped his iron token against her device, flashing his private wolf frequency onto her glass screen.
"Reach out if your wolf senses danger," Alaric said smoothly.
Elsin glanced down at his screen out of the corner of her eye. Her breath hitched. Right above her newly registered frequency, Alaric had already typed a single, permanent label: Luna.
"I will," Elsin muttered, her chest tightening with a strange, sudden pulse of heat. She hesitated for a second before typing his contact info into her own device. Instead of saving his plain worker title, she typed in My Male, Alaric.
Alaric’s gray eyes flickered with a dark, satisfied gleam. He opened his mouth to speak, but the heavy silver comm-device in his coat pocket suddenly burst into a harsh, high-frequency alarm chime reserved exclusively for urgent pack emergency broadcasts.
"Safe travels back to your charm stall," Alaric said, the warmth vanishing from his face as his voice turned ice-cold.
Elsin nodded quickly and signaled an iron transport cart by the edge of the stone road. She climbed inside without looking back, leaving Alaric standing alone in the square.
Not even two minutes after her cart rattled away, a heavy, armored black carriage pulled by four massive shadow-wolves pulled up directly beside Alaric. The driver’s window slid down, revealing Octavian Westbourne, the second-born heir of Westbourne Alpha Holdings.
"I thought you were inspecting the eastern territory borders," Octavian said, leaning out with a confused frown. "What are you doing outside the Frostwick Pack Elders Hall?"
"Executing a mate bond," Alaric said cleanly. He yanked open the heavy door and climbed into the plush leather interior. "Drive to the flight-drake staging grounds."
Octavian yanked so hard on the wolf-reins that the carriage jerked to a violent halt, the shadow-wolves snarling in surprise. "Are you out of your mind? You don't even have a chosen mate! The Matriarch brought fifty high-ranking females to the pack house last week and you rejected every single one. She was starting to think your wolf was broken!"
"Say another word and I'm slashing your monthly territory allowance in half," Alaric said without turning his head.
"You can't be serious!" Octavian gasped, his eyes wide with shock. "You actually bound your soul to someone?"
"When you drop me at the staging grounds, go secure a modest stone dwelling in the lower territory," Alaric ordered calmly. "Three chambers, two bathing rooms. Nothing larger."
Octavian stared at his brother like he had grown a second head. "A lower-territory shelter? You own six bloodline fortresses and three private mountain strongholds! Why are you buying a worker's hovel?"
Alaric remained silent, his dark gaze fixed out the tinted window. Octavian snapped his mouth shut, muttering under his breath, completely convinced his brother was playing some elaborate, twisted game. There was no way the future Alpha of Westbourne Alpha Holdings had just bound himself to a random female off the territory streets.
The heavy oak door of the cottage barely swung open before a ceremonial bone whip whistled through the air, striking the wooden frame right next to Elsin’s head with a deafening crack.
"Where have you been, Elsin?" Georgiana Waveridge screamed, her grey wolf-eyes wild with fury as she hovered over the threshold. "I sent you to the lodge to meet that pack worker! Did you run away again? Do you want our family thrown out to the outlands?"
Elsin didn't flinch. She reached into her tunic, pulled out the parchment bearing the gleaming red wax mark of the mate bond, and held it directly in front of her mother's face.
"I signed the bond, Mother," Elsin said, her voice steady and flat. "You can stop threatening to starve your wolf now."
Georgiana froze instantly. The bone whip slipped from her hand, thudding against the floorboards. Her hands trembled violently as she snatched the binding parchment, her eyes scanning the official pack seals in utter disbelief.
"You actually did it?" Georgiana whispered, her mouth gaping open. She stared at the moving portrait stamped into the wax—a strikingly handsome male with sharp features and piercing gray eyes. "Alaric... Westbourne? Wait."
Georgiana pulled out her crumpled notice-board paper, her brows pulling together in deep confusion.
"The matchmaker on the territory notice board listed his bloodline name as Westbourne with an ordinary low-caste spelling," Georgiana muttered, tracing the raised gold lettering on the ancient parchment. "Why is his signature stamped here with the ancient Alpha lineage crest?"
Elsin Waveridge POV"I am the one who set these terms, Tamsin," Elsin said, resting her hands on the polished mahogany counter of the market post. "I refuse to take advantage of him. We don't know if this mate bond will even survive the winter, so long-term expectations mean nothing right now."Tamsin Whitlocke crossed her arms, her golden eyes narrowing as she searched Elsin’s calm face. "You carry yourself like a martyr, Elsin. You were top of our warrior training class before your father died, and now you waste your golden years managing a low-tier trade stall. What about Percival Dainsley? He just returned from the Capital after securing a massive seat on the Enforcer Council.""I have a bound mate," Elsin said smoothly, her voice dropping an octave as her wolf stirred with quiet warning beneath her skin. "Percival belongs to my past. I don't care how many silver manors he owns in the upper valley. I signed my oath with Alaric, and I intend to honor it."Tamsin opened her mouth to
Elsin Waveridge POV"Did you really drag a total stranger to the Pack Elders and sign a mate bond behind my back?" Tamsin Whitlocke slammed both hands on the steering wheel of her crimson runner-wagon, screeching the iron wheels to a halt outside the convenience store. "Elsin Waveridge, you don't even have a suitor! Did you pick an outland wolf off the side of the mountain trail?""He's not an outland wolf, Tamsin," Elsin said, holding her hands up defensively as her best friend stared at her in utter disbelief. "My mother pulled his profile off the territory notice board. His name is Alaric Westbourne. He works for Westbourne Alpha Holdings, his parents passed into the ancestral grounds, and his wolf is untainted.""Alaric?" Tamsin frowned, her brows knitting together as she tried to place the name. "Alaric Westbourne... The Whitlockes aren't high enough in the pack hierarchy to attend Council summits, but that name sounds terrifyingly familiar.""He's just an ordinary low-ranking pa
Elsin Waveridge POVElsin’s wet fingers slipped uselessly against the rough timber of the heavy crate, her strength giving out under the punishing assault of the storm. Just as the wooden edge tilted toward the mud, a massive, warm hand shot through the rain, taking the full weight of her burden without a single tremble."Allow me," a deep, velvet voice rumbled right above her head.Elsin gasped, looking up into the shadows as the male thrust a wide, dark umbrella into her shivering hand. Before she could process his presence, he lifted the massive crate effortlessly against his chest and strode toward the stone entrance of her apartment dwelling. She snapped back to her senses three seconds later, rushing after him to hold the canopy over his head until they cleared the threshold into the lit lobby.Alaric Westbourne carried her heavy cargo all the way up the stone stairs, setting the crates down neatly outside her doorway without dropping a single drop of rain onto her precious spir
Elsin Waveridge POV"Elsin Waveridge, did you forge a fake pack parchment just to shut me up?" Georgiana Waveridge pointed a trembling, clawed finger at the glowing crimson seal, her pale eyes wide with suspicion. "You expect me to believe a mate bond just fell into your lap?""Mother, look at the ancestral stamp," Elsin said, setting her leather satchel down on the worn wooden table. "It came straight from the Frostwick Elders Hall. The pack elders witnessed it themselves. It's real.""Then where is my son-in-law?" Georgiana pressed, her gray tail-tuft twitching with restless agitation as she paced the small stone room. "Why didn't he step through the threshold to present himself to your mother? I told you to go on a simple date, not bind your wolf to a stranger. Do you even know who he is?""You were the one who pulled his notice off the territory board," Elsin said quietly. "He works for Westbourne Alpha Holdings, which means his position is stable. He's thirty, his wolf is untaint

Elsin Waveridge POV"Are you going to sign the mate bond or keep wasting my breath?"Elsin Waveridge kept her spine rigid against the wooden booth, her golden eyes locked onto the towering male sitting across from her inside Silverthorn Pack Lodge. She did not flinch. She couldn't afford to.The male before her was lethal—sharp cheekbones, midnight hair, and slate-gray eyes that burned with a suffocating, predatory aura. Even dressed in a simple dark tunic that marked him as an ordinary low-ranking pack worker, his broad shoulders and commanding posture screamed dominant strength. He left every other male her mother had forced her to meet in the dust. This was her tenth blind date in three months. Her mother, Georgiana Waveridge, had spent the last ninety days threatening to starve herself if Elsin did not secure a mate and carry on their bloodline."We just sat down," the male said, his voice a deep, velvet rumble that made Elsin's dormant wolf stir beneath her ribs. A slow, razor-sh
