I thought I would lose it when I heard Aunt Lara’s painful cry. Even Uncle Rodney paled, tears welling as he gathered his mate into his arms. But Conner’s reaction gutted me.

“Dead…?” he breathed. “You’re lying. No. That can’t be true.” He started pacing erratically. “She can’t be dead. This is some sick joke, Lucas.” He looked at Lucas, hoping he would confirm that it was just that. When Lucas didn’t, his mind just snapped. “You… you killed my sister. You bastard. You killed my sister.”

I ended up with a mix of warriors from all four packs joining me. Shifting into our wolves, I sent half the group northeast while the rest of us traveled south as the sun set. My plan was to sweep along our line of defense. Our defenses were set up in a formation that would funnel the Dawn Stalkers toward the main road.Night had taken over as I crouched in the brush near the attack site. I could still smell the blood that painted the ground. A new group had cleared the few casualties that hadn’t made it out so they could resume their work. At this point, they only had to finish digging the trenches, but that would be enough to draw out the shooters.Sure enough, I started to see movement through the shadows. I waited. Two more figures shifted among the brush. Rhonen bared his teeth. Taking a silent step forward. He was the largest of the wolves but his dark fur would keep him hidden. This also wasn’t the first time he’d be relying on stealth to take out an enemy. We were just brushin

I looked out the window of my family’s farmhouse at the tents that were set up all over the property. The fields had been cleared for the winter, so it was a relief to have the land to shelter our troops. When we had arrived at the farm the day before, I was surprised to find my uncle and a few of the farmhands already preparing for the army to come in.A part of me was incredibly proud of how my pack was coming together with others to protect our values and way of life. But the other part wouldn’t let me appreciate that.“I’m going to do another patrol tonight,” I told Max. “I want to make sure the trenches are dug and the traps in place.”“The explosives haven’t arrived yet,” he replied.“They’ll be here in a couple of hours,” I said. “They can meet me at the border.”“Lucas, you need to sleep,” Max told me. “I can go out tonight.”“Like I could sleep,” I replied.“You have to sleep, Luke,” Max insisted. “The longest you’ve even sat down since the attack was the car ride here.”“You

“A thousand guns,” Jaden repeated again.I’d sent Sanders back out to join the rest of his pack members. We got what we needed from him. Now we needed to figure out what to do with the information. I sat in front of a plate of food I hadn’t touched. Wondering how we could get enough supplies to have any chance within two days.“We have fifty that are in our possession now,” Max said, taking a bite of his dinner. “With a little more practice and those caches, that’ll be something at least.”“We can’t use those rifles,” Jaden argued. “Just because they’re willing to abandon our sacred laws doesn’t mean we…”“Oh, come on. What fucking choice to we have, Jaden?” Max argued. “Go on, Lucas. Tell him. Those rifles increase our odds too much to ignore them.”I pushed my plate away. “We don’t have time to learn to use them,” I said. “We could end up shooting just as many of our own people as theirs.”I pushed out of my chair, going to the window. Neither of my friends were wrong. And that did

We herded the Dawn Stalkers out of the hall as the sun came up, collecting the rest of the guns and piling them in the center of the town. Taking stock of our losses, we came out of the fight far better than I had expected but not unscathed. We lost ten pack members. Nineteen were injured. Thanks to the local doctor who stayed behind with a few of the other residents, they were getting treated at the local clinic. There was damage to the shops and offices along the main road, but nothing severe. Some of the townspeople had already returned and were busy making repairs. Despite the cost, this was still a victory. A victory that most didn’t anticipate. So, morale was high, improving the atmosphere for the survivors.“We have to figure out how to utilize the smoke and fire bombs in other scenarios. We’ll work on the designs as well. We wouldn’t be here without them. And we won’t have the advantage of surprise next time. Not if word of how things went down gets back to Anders.”“There’s n

Should I be worried about sending one of my best friends into a fight to the death? Yeah, probably. Was I worried? Not really. Neither was Max. I was watching him stretch excitedly as we waited for Beta Logan to emerge from town hall.“It’s time, Beta Logan,” I stated into the walkie.“Send out your fighter first,” Logan snarled.“You’re in no position to be making demands, Beta,” I replied. “My man will come out as soon as we see you. And remember—if a single shot if fired, we gas the building.”Max bounced on the balls of his feet as we watched through the front doors of the bank for Logan to emerge. When to door to the town hall opened, there was an immediate shift in the atmosphere. Logan stepped out onto the steps, visible by the street lights and a security light from a neighboring building. Cracking his knuckles, Max pushed the door open and started walking.“You send out your fucking Gamma,” Logan shouted when he caught a glimpse of who he would be fighting. “What… your Beta c

  • The Alpha's Stolen Luna   Chapter 347: Lucas

An hour after we trapped the Dawn Stalkers in the town hall, I prepared to make contact. We had used some of the vehicles left behind to start moving bodies. We’d lost a few of the street lights to stray bullets, but we used that our advantage while moving about. Even in the dark, I had expected to be ducking shots from Beta Logan’s crew inside the building as we worked around them, but it didn’t happen. I wondered how low in ammunition they were running to not take the opportunity.I stood in the shadows of the bank across the street with a walkie-talkie. I knew there was another one still in the office we’d used to plan. I wanted Kimo’s captain to hear the conversation, so I just hoped it was still on the right channel.“Come in, Dawn Stalkers,” I spoke into the device. “Dawn Stalkers, come in. This is Alpha Danvers of the Ironpaw Pack. I repeat. This is Alpha Danvers of the Ironpaw Pack.”I paused, giving time for a response. Only silence.“Come in, Dawn Stalkers,” I said again. “T
