Chp 1 Pt. 3 Moving Again

Ahsoka

I am not use to anyone being so friendly towards me. It kind of makes me feel uneasy, like the shoe is about to drop. I head straight to the office and I am greeted by the receptionist. She gives me a friendly smile.

“Hello you must be Ahsoka. My name is Ms. Hadley. This is your class schedule as well as a map of the campus. I will show you to your locker.” It worked once so I might as well try again and sign to Ms. Hadley.

“Thank you Ms. Hadley.”

“No problem dear, just follow me.”

I raise an eyebrow as I follow her. Another person who knows sign language. I have lived in many towns and not once had I come across someone who could understand me. Ms. Hadley shows me to my locker and gives me the combination. She already has all the textbooks I will need for my classes. The classes are set up like college classes. Tuesdays and Thursdays I have chemistry, AP US history and PE. Mondays and Wednesdays I have world history, calculus and AP English. Fridays I have art and auto mechanics.

Being able to fix cars has come in handy for father and it makes my life a bit better when I busy fixing his truck. He tends to leave me alone when I do so I may have purposely sabotaged his truck on several occasions just so I could fix them again. The down side to this scheduled is school gets out by one. I am sure that is one of the many reasons father picked this area.

“You are quite intelligent my dear for taking so many AP classes. If it becomes too much let me know and we can put you in something not so difficult.”

“Thank you. These classes are not really that hard to me so I shouldn’t have an issue,” I sign to her. At that moment the first bell rings signaling to get to class.

“Well off you go Ahsoka. AP world history is down this hall and on your left. I hope you enjoy your first day here.”

Ms. Hadley smiles and returns to the front office. I make my way to my first class and hand the teacher the note notifying him I’m a new student.

“Welcome Ahsoka, I am Mr. Smith. Take any seat you’d like. Don’t worry I won’t call on you in class. I am aware of your situation. I don’t know sign language myself. If you need to be excused from class just raise your hand with one finger in the air and I will excuse you.”

I take out a piece of paper and write ‘thank you’. I head to my seat and take out my textbook as the rest of the students file in. A girl sits next to me and taps me on my shoulder. I am stunned by how beautiful she is. She appears to be quite tall with blue eyes and beautiful curly blond hair. She waves hi to me and starts signing.

“Hi my name is Nadia. I have been told you are the new girl that can sign.”

“Yes, I am mute. My name is Ahsoka.”

“Like from Star Wars?” I get that question a lot. I lightly huff and nod my head at her. “Well that’s cool.” She pulls my class schedule from me, reading it. “We don’t have many classes together but I’ll be around if you wanna hang out at lunch.”

Before I can answer the teacher gets everyone to quiet down and begins the lesson. Along with the teacher is an interpreter for Nadia I assume. This is a very unusual school. The day flies by too fast before I have to get back on the bus that’ll take me back home.

“How was your first day Ahsoka,” asks James.

“It was actually really nice,” I sign to him.

“That’s good to hear. Let’s get you and everyone else home.”

Thankfully I am the last person to be dropped off by the bus so it takes much longer than I thought to get home, but I still have plenty of time to get dinner ready.

“Thank you James,” I sign.

“No problem kiddo. See you in the morning.”

I wave at James as the bus drives away and walk down our long driveway. In the distance I can hear wolves howling, making me dash to the front door. I don’t hear any sign of my father as I enter the house. I through my backpack in my room and head to the kitchen to start on dinner. I find all the ingredients I need to make us surf and turf for dinner with baked potatoes and broccoli. All of father’s favorites. Once dinner is finished I put father’s plate together and set it on the table along with a beer. I place my plate down and wait for him.

Father surprises me when walks out of his room and sits down at the table. I didn’t even hear him come in the house. He begins eating without a word so I dig in as well. By the time he is finished with dinner he is on his sixth beer. That is not a good sign for me, he gets mean when he gets drunk. I try to clean up dinner as quickly as I can so I can start on my homework. If I am studying father doesn’t bug me. For whatever reason he believes it’s important I have a good education. I almost make it to my room before I am grabbed by my wrist and pushed against the wall. Father has his face extremely close to mine as I attempt to turn my head away. He reeks of alcohol.

“Clean up this mess.”

He let’s go of my wrists and heads back to his room. Tears threaten to spill as I rub my wrists as they hurt from the grip he had. I look at his door periodically as I quickly clean the kitchen. I put the left overs in the fridge, clean the pots and pans and run the dishwasher.

“Go get your homework done angel.”

I jump, not realizing father had come out of his room. I keep my head down as I walk past him and into my room. I am thankful that I have my own private bathroom and it has a lock on the door. I take a quick shower before taking out my school books.

Nico

I caught the most beautiful floral scent today. I could smell roses as the strongest scent. After all this time she is here somewhere. I just need to figure out where. There has to be a new student here because I have never smelled this scent before. I have looked through our whole pack as well as neighboring packs for my luna with no luck. The elders have suggested several times I take a chosen mate but I continue to refuse to. I was dying to get out of class to go find her, but once school was over I followed her scent to where the buses were and there is where it faded. Damn and I just missed the buses too. I can’t follow them all. I’ll have to ask the principal about the new student, thankfully he is a werewolf. I make my way to the office and greet Ms. Hadley. She is human but knows about us. We all like her.

“Hello dear, how can I help you?”

“Is Mr. McGuire available? I really need to speak with him.” At that moment I smell Nadia as she jumps on my back for a piggy back ride. I can’t help but smile as I set her down so I can sign to her.

“Hey little sis. How were your AP classes today?”

Nadia inherited all the brains in the family and wants to be the next pack doctor. It’ll be challenging to treat humans being deaf but since she is a wolf we can all mind link to her. Dad thought it was just as important we all learn sign language though too.

“Good, we have a new student. She is mute, but knows how to sign. I think we are going to be good friends,” she signs back.

“You met the new girl?”
