37 - BenI try to call Elara, but I get exactly what I expected…sent to voice mail. I try Jax and Dev too, but no answer. They are either working or so tired they don’t hear it. 36 - BenI move to stand up. I need to get to a phone and check on her. I should not be able to feel her from this distance. Something has to be very, very wrong. We are not mated and marked. Why are there so many damn people crowding around all of a sudden. Then I hear it. “Jeremiah! Pull your head out of your ass!!” Kennedy shouts at our best friend and I see what the commotion is all about. Rayna, is several shades of red and alternating between being angry and yelling at Jer, and convulsing in pain. Jer seems to blink and come back to consciousness as he scoops Rayna up and tucks her head under his chin. Then they are all off. Kennedy and Rykers follow them out the door and jump into a waiting SUV. Jason, Tommy, Danny, and Bennet jump into another and Josh yells at me to follow him to a third. 35 - BenShe’s happy. She’s healthy. And she is completely enamored with Ryker. I can’t even call him an asshole in my head. He’s a good Alpha, we all saw that the week we visited when Rayna introduced Jeremiah to him. Whatever hang-ups they had, they are far beyond that now. She is still one of the most gorgeous women I have ever seen, but she is staring at him like he hung the moon and no one else is here. 34 - Elara“No” A strangled cry slips from my lips.“Yeah. That’s right baby Alpha. Your pack is ours now.” Jeff taunts.Something inside of me breaks. My mom was innocent. 33 - ElaraWe arrive under the cover of darkness and pull into the garage like any other day. Jax and Dev drag the rogue out, head lolling.“What are we really doing with this jackass?” Jax asks.“I really am going to string him up. If he is a ‘freelancer’ then his self interest will eventually outweigh his loyalty. I’m tired of these rogues and whoever else is lurking in the pack thinking they can walk all over me.
