Chapter 5:The dreams

It was late in the evening when Logan Michaelson alighted from the limo with a deep frown. He hated using the limo in travelling. He preferred the private jet but his wife had insisted on the limo, saying she didn't want them to draw attention to themselves. He helped his wife down and they walked down the pathway to their mansion. He wasn't in a good mood. He couldn't believe his daughter chose her friends over her family. He understood she was upset because she didn't know the entire truth.

"What's wrong darling? Still thinking about our daughter?",Isabel asked as they entered the large hallway. The maids came quickly and took their coats off them.

"I just can't imagine why she didn't come with us. We're her family",Logan said.

"She's still hurt dad",Xavier said. "I would be if I were in her place",he added. Xavier understood why his sister chose to remain. She was hurt, and she was going through a lot.

"Relax dear", Isabel said to her husband. "Let's give her some time. She just lost Grayson and Marie. They've been the only parental figure in her life and we can't just change that in a day. Give her a little time"

"Serena needs to be here with us. That's the only way we can make sure she controls her powers. She has come of age and she has no idea who she is",Logan said in an annoyed tone."She doesn't even know the death of her foster parents was her fault... "

"Dad don't tell me you're planning on telling her she actually killed her foster parents",Xavier interrupted his father angrily. "You're just going to make everything worse. You'll push her away from us."

Logan stared at his son angrily."Of course not",he said.

" Enough both of you!",Isabel said. Although she was the only human in the house, she had a strong control over the household. She was tired of the endless bickering between her husband and her son. "Like I said, let's give her some time to get herself together. Besides, she will start having the dreams soon, and she will need answers. She will definitely come to us". She walked to her son and held his face with her hands,"I know you want your sister to be here with you. She will be soon enough, ok?",she kissed him on the forehead and walked off to her room.

Xavier stared at his father after his mother left and then turned to go to his room.

"Xavier",Logan called. Xavier turned and faced his dad.

"I know you're being protective of your sister. I wouldn't do anything to hurt her. She's my daughter too",he said. Xavier sighed and nodded.

"I understand dad. We all want what's best for her. She will be with us soon",he said.

"Are you still having the dreams?" Logan asked.

Xavier nodded. There was a strange expression on his face as he said,"They're getting terrible. Most nights, I can't control my powers. It became stronger after my birthday."

Logan knew this would happen. He only hoped it wasn't already happening with Serena. "I'll have a meeting with the other witches, and the sisters of the night. There should be a remedy",he said.

Xavier nodded. "Alright",he said and walked off to his room. Logan made his way up the large mansion to his room where his wife was.

"I still can't understand why you have to argue with Xavier all the time",she said. "You know he misses his sister. I'm even surprised he was able to understand why you had to give his twin out".

"I know honey. He knows I did it to protect her. Let's just forget about it. We will give Serena some time. She's matured enough to know the right thing to do",Logan said as he took his wife into his arms. Twenty years already in marriage and he was still crazy about her. It was just as if they were still young couples.

"Xavier reminds me of you when you were young. Being so overprotective of me",Isabel said softly as she gazed lovingly at her husband. She remembered when he defied his own parents to be with her, even when he knew witches and humans were never supposed to be together.

Logan smiled. He remembered too. He looked down at his wife and kissed her softly on the lips."Let's go have dinner",he said.

Serena lay in bed sleeping. After the Michaelsons' left, she was in a sour mood. She had to push her plans about telling the squad everything to another day. She had thought of calling Jayden to keep her company, but she just wanted to be alone. She needed to think. After having dinner, she climbed into her bed and fell asleep almost instantly.

...

She was running through the forest. She didn't know why but she felt as if she was being pursued. She risked a quick look over her shoulders but saw no one. The urge to keep running kept pushing her and she increased her pace. She was in a long white dress and her purple hair whipped around her face as she ran. Soon she was out of breath and she collapsed under a tree. She drew in deep breathes as her heart hammered violently against her chest. She should rest a little, she told herself. She closed her eyes as she began to breath regularly again. She tucked her tired legs under her dress and rested her head on the giant tree. Suddenly she heard a twig crack. Her eyes flew open and she got up, looking around her in fright. She could feel someone staring at her, but she couldn't see anyone. She tried to speak but it seemed her throat was clogged. No sound came out. Suddenly a creature flew out of the dark. It was white and almost transparent, with blood red eyes and black charred teeth. The creature screeched loudly, flying in a terrifying speed towards her. She couldn't bear the screeching sound and she covered her ears. She tried to scream but she couldn't make a single sound. As the creature got close to her ready to swallow her whole, she raised her hands in a defensive stance and suddenly, a flash of purple light burst forth from her arms. The light hit the creature and it exploded. What power was that? She asked herself silently. She began to feel dizzy and she slid to the ground, her vision grey around the edges. From the corner of her eyes, she saw two more creatures emerging from the dark as they flew towards her to kill her. She didn't have the strength to protect herself again, so she prepared herself to die. As the creatures got close to her ready to kill, a giant dark figure blocked her vision. The dark figure moved so fast that she could hardly see it. The next thing, the creatures exploded. She tried to keep her eyes open so she could see her savior, but she was fast loosing her consciousness. The last thing she saw before she blacked out were two red eyes, glowing brightly.

...

Serena jerked awake with a scream and sat up in bed. She was breathing hard and she was sweating profusely. What a terrible dream, she thought. She took deep breathes, trying to calm herself down. "It was just a dream, it was just a dream",she kept whispering to herself till she felt calm. She threw the covers off and got up. She needed to take a shower.

She turned on the light and what met her eyes was as frightening as the dream. Her room was a disaster. The window had been shattered, the glass pieces littered the floor. Her reading table was broken and strewn about. Her mirror was cracked beyond repair, her curtains were torn to shreds. It was a terrible sight.

"What the hell happened?",she asked fearfully. Everything had been fine when she went to bed. It couldn't be a burglar because she would have known if someone was in the house. The house alarm would have sounded. So what was this? Serena was confused and scared. What time was it? She checked her bedside table for her timer. The timer wasn't there. She found it in a corner of the room, in pieces. The only safe thing was her phone. She picked it up from the bed and checked the time.

3:15am.

Almost daylight. With the dream she just had, and with the state of her room, she couldn't go back to sleep. She climbed her bed and huddled under the blankets, wide awake until she heard the cheerful chirping of the birds announcing the birth of another day.
