Chapter One

Sheila

"She's alive" Sheila says to the figure in front of her as she stares into her crystal ball.

"Why haven't we found her then? It's been years" the figure says. The figure has a veil covering his face and a cloak.

"That would be because she's not here in our world. She's in the firstworld."

"What happens next then?"

"We bring her here" Sheila says with her evil smile.

The third person in the room who is lying chained, on an old bed shakes and the chains rattle as she tries yet again to get up.

"I love how you keep trying even when you know you're on your deathbed" Sheila says to the her.

"We've got a Witch to capture" she says to the covered figure as she rises and moves towards him.

He wraps his cloak around them and they disappear.

SARAH

Sarah wipes down the table in front of her, her senses on high alert.

She can hear the clatter of dishes in the kitchen, the hum of the air conditioning, and the faint rustle of leaves outside the window.

The smells of coffee and bacon wafts through the restaurant, making her stomach growl.

She can see the smallest details of the diner, from the speck of dirt on the floor to the wrinkles on the face of the old man in the corner booth.

It was the same every day. Her senses are heightened to an almost superhuman level, and it is both a blessing and a curse.

She has no idea why her senses are so acute, but she has learned to live with them. As a result, she has become one of the best waitresses in the diner, anticipating the needs of her customers before they even speak.

Sarah had a rough upbringing. She was abandoned as a baby and was left to grow up in the foster care system. She was placed in various homes, but she never felt like she fit in. As a child, Sarah realized that she was different from other kids. She had heightened senses of sight, hearing, and smell, and she could feel people's presence and know if they were good or bad. Her abilities made her feel isolated and alone.

Sarah tried to keep her abilities hidden, but it was difficult. She was constantly on edge, trying to control her senses and not draw attention to herself. She didn't want to be seen as a freak or a weirdo. However, her heightened senses also gave her an advantage. She was able to anticipate the needs of her foster parents and the other children in the home, and she was able to navigate her surroundings with ease.

As Sarah grew older, she started to rebel against the system. She felt like she didn't belong in the foster care system and she longed for a sense of belonging.

At the age of eighteen, Sarah decided to run away from her foster home and make her way to the city. She knew it would be a risk, but she felt like she had no other choice.

Running away was difficult, but Sarah was determined to make it on her own. She struggled at first, but her heightened senses allowed her to find work as a waitress. She found that working in the diner was a good fit for her. She could use her abilities to her advantage, and she was able to make enough money to support herself. Despite the challenges she faced, Sarah was glad to be out on her own and away from the foster care system that she never felt like she fit into.

As she cleans the last table, Sarah hears a commotion outside. She peers through the window and sees a group of four men walking down the street. They are dressed in dark clothing, and they have a menacing look about them.

Sarah feels a hand on her shoulder. She knows who it is before the woman even got close. It was the owner of the diner, a kind woman named Alice.

"Are you okay, Sarah?" Alice asks, noticing the worried expression on her face.

Sarah hesitates. She doesn't want to cause a panic, but she has a feeling that something is about to happen, something bad. Unfortunately, her instincts are never wrong.

"Of course Alice", she replies.

She tries to keep her cool, but her senses are going haywire.

"You look pale," Alice says.

"It's just been a long day," she replies with a yawn to emphasize her point.

"You've been doing too much, you should probably stay home tomorrow," Alice suggests.

"Oh come on Alice", she says as she gives the table one last rubdown and turns around.

"A little bit of rest tonight and I'll be just fine," Sarah continues as she turns Alice around with her hands on the older woman's shoulders and pushes her gently into her office.

"I'll be leaving now", she says and puts Alice on her seat.

She takes off her apron and stiletto heels, reaches under the table for her sneakers and puts them on.

"I don't want to see you anywhere around here tomorrow", Alice tells her.

"I told you_" Sarah tries to interrupt

"How about you listen to me young woman?" Alice says and with a look Sarah knows is final continues, "Stay home, it's the weekend. Go and have fun. The rest of us can manage without you".

Sarah knows she's lost the fight and picks up her bag as she stands, "Yes ma'am" she says with a mock salute.

Alice waves her hand in front of her face to shoo her away. She leans down to give her a kiss on her cheek then makes her way out.

Immediately she steps outside she can feel it, the men from earlier are watching her.
