The drive back to my old pack took only five hours. While I remembered Marcus finding his mate like it was yesterday, the drive to Steele Academy was a blur.

“You ran for five hours?” I asked Nova, somewhat shocked.

“We had to get the hell out of there.” She grumbled, “And now we’re going back.”

“We don’t have a choice.” I sighed, “But we’re both different now.”

“You’re damn right we are,” Nova growled smugly.

We pulled up to the edge of pack territory, followed to the side of the road by several wolves guarding the perimeter. I was surprised that I didn’t recognize any of the wolves.

A year later, I’m driving back to my old pack territory, driving through lands now marked with Sterling Corporation logos. When they arrive, I realize that everything has changed. New guards patrol the area, werewolves in expensive suits with the Sterling Industries logo.

"What business are you here for?" one of the men spoke up. He was huge, with a long scar running down his bicep.

"Came to visit family. My brother Ryan, who handles pack politics, and Dad." I replied, looking at each of them. There wasn't anyone here I recognized. Had the pack grown while I was gone?

The man had a confused look on his face.

I wondered if Ryan and Dad were okay with the pack. Understanding flickered across the man's face, and he glanced at the other men.

"Come on in." He nodded, and Nova wasted no time in pulling away.

"Well, that was weird." Nova looked at me and frowned. I was sure she was thinking the same thing I was.

"That's exactly it." I frowned.

We drove through the center of the pack, and I was shocked to see many new faces. Something had happened while I was gone.

We pulled into the driveway of my old house. The white paint was now faded. It felt like I had been gone for over a year. The flowers that were once outside were now wilted and dead. My mom was the one who took care of the flowers in front of the house. How long had she been dead?

I hesitated at the door, debating whether I should knock or just walk in. My train of thought was interrupted when Nova opened the door, and we walked into the house.

A shocked Ryan was sitting on the couch, and my dad was sitting off to the side in his chair.

"Zara?" my dad exclaimed, looking more surprised than ever.

My dad and Ryan looked me up and down, noticing the changes I had undergone in the last year. My appearance had completely transformed—I was now a deadly warrior with enhanced speed, strength, and combat skills that far exceeded the normal abilities of a werewolf.

My Academy training was evident in my every move—a predatory grace, constant vigilance, and an aura of barely contained ferocity. My father was both relieved and a little terrified at what his daughter had become.

“Hey, Dad.” I smiled at him, walking into his arms. I inhaled his cologne and tobacco.

“I missed you, kid.” My father grumbled, ruffling my hair.

“Now tell me what the hell is going on.” I frowned at Ryan, who was simply watching his father and me talk.

“Marcus screwed up.” Ryan snorted.

I rolled my eyes. “Wow, so surprised. Go on.”

Ryan reveals the shocking truth: Marcus, the billionaire heir to the Alpha I once loved, refused to honor their pack's business alliance after I left. When Alpha Kane Sterling of the Sterling Financial Empire approached his pack with a merger offer, Marcus sabotaged the talks out of spite, claiming Zara's family was beneath his new mate's standards.

"They came here, Zara. They declared war on us." Ryan frowned, looking at Dad.

I couldn't help but feel confused. Sure, there were a lot of new faces, but it all felt the same. There was no way Marcus had defeated Alpha Kane Sterling.

"What happened?" I frowned, looking between Ryan's grim expression and my father's.

"I'll tell you what happened," my father spat angrily. "No damn pack would help Marcus. Marcus made us all fight. Every man and woman had to fight." My father's voice broke off with a mournful sigh.

"How... how could he do that?" I said the words mostly to myself. I knew Marcus was bad, but this was worse than I could have imagined. On the other hand, they didn't finish the story.

"And you know what the worst part of all this is? Marcus fucking ran. Grabbed his bitch and ran while we were all fighting for our lives." My father spat, shaking with anger now.

"Dad, calm down. If he ever comes back, Alpha will kill him." Ryan's face darkened again.

"Alpha? Alpha, who?" I asked.

"Once we realized Marcus had left us all to die, we did the only thing we could. We surrendered." Ryan frowned.

"We have a new Alpha now. Alpha Kane. We're part of the Sterling Empire." Ryan grumbled, clearly not enjoying the situation.

"At least Alpha Kane will never leave his pack." His father spat. "He can be ruthless and cruel, but he would rather die than abandon his people."

Now their pack is owned by the Sterling empire, and Alpha Kane Sterling - a billionaire Alpha CEO worth over 50 billion - has absorbed their territory and business. He's not just their new Alpha; he's their new boss, their landlord, and the man who controls their economic survival.

***

As we ate dinner, I nearly jumped out of my seat when I heard the mind link click in my head. The mind link hadn't worked since I decided to leave the pack. A deep, raspy voice swept through my head. I nearly flinched as it swirled in one ear, around my head, and out the other.

"Report for training at the Pack Headquarters at 10 am. Don't be late. I look forward to meeting you." A raspy male voice swept through my head. Rude and bossy.

Alpha Kane contacts me directly via mind control, ordering me to report to his corporate headquarters for training. I'm more surprised than annoyed - after the brutal regime of Moonstone Academy, I'm curious to test my new skills against another strong Alpha.

"So you're going to listen to him instead of me?" I snorted. "Oh wow.""You're going to get us in trouble," Nova said. "Daddy doesn't do that, and he makes amazing brownies."Daddy let me practice in my old bedroom.I lay down on the bedroom floor, positioned in the middle.Clearing my mind was incredibly difficult, which didn't surprise me.As soon as my inner voice faded, images of Kane and Marcus flashed through my mind.Kane with his luscious dark hair, perfectly tousled.Marcus with his blonde locks and porcelain skin, his mischievous gaze.I pushed the images away as hard as I could, wishing Nova would help somehow. The oasis in my head was blurry at first, the details an irritating haze. As I continued to breathe evenly, the image became clearer.Crystal blue water, waving wheat, and the scent of nature in the air.I imagined myself diving into the depths of my mind, a library growing around me.Rows of blank books lined the oak shelves, each cover a different style and color.

Her back arched as the pleasure washed over her, and I watched her face every time. She fed on the pain mixed with the bliss; fed on the feel of her sensitive core under my touch. Not once did she beg me to stop. Despite all the whimpers and pleas, she never once said the word "stop."I let her fall asleep until late in the morning. The thought crossed my mind to leave her in her bed, but I couldn't bring myself to move. Instead, I pulled the covers over her clothed body. The creamy skin of her back was exposed, giving me a perfect view of her round bottom. The taste of her skin lingered on my tongue, sweet and rich.I woke to the sound of her shuffling in bed. A sense of possessive pride washed over me as I looked at the purple marks on her skin. The purple was especially noticeable on her chest, distracting me from the ugly red mark.I wanted to stay, wanted to spend the day with her, but life had other plans. There was work to do, especially now that I had left early. The ship carr

He stepped forward silently, lowering his hands and stuffing them in his pockets. As always, his feet made no sound as they touched the floor. There was less hostility in his dark eyes now, and the sternness on his face seemed to have dissolved."You are not going anywhere alone in the pack. This is my last warning."One more dangerous step closer, and now he was almost invading my personal space. I did not take my eyes off him, and he barely blinked.Although I had to crane my neck to look at this giraffe, a very muscular giraffe. "So tell me honestly, do you have such plans?""He was suspicious of the message you received this morning?" Nova suspected."There is no way he can know that I tried to meet a stranger alone by the pool." I rolled my eyes."The Alpha was too smart and would have figured out what was going on." Nova was scared."I don't know what you're talking about, but I had nothing to do with it." My heart was pounding at what he'd just said, but I tried to keep a strai

"I see, Mr. Sterling took his coffee?"Miranda shook her head sympathetically."He said, and I quote, 'Where's Zara? It's her job now, not yours. Take it back."‘Damn, that was awful.’ Nova scrambled. ‘But I had an idea, and I knew it might cheer him up.’ I rolled my eyes."I'll take it to him, and hopefully he'll come back alive," Nova muttered, rolling her eyes this time."Good luck, you're his pretend mate now. I'm sure he'll be lenient," Nova said."Yeah! Pretending, mate, you know that, Nova." I rolled my eyes.I went to make him some coffee. It was time to meet the ice devil."Wish me luck." Nova console me.I walked over to the coffee machine, expressing my deep gratitude to Miranda, who made the coffee. I checked the color and confirmed that it resembled the blackest coal in the mine.I grabbed Alpha Kane's cup, poured the hot liquid into it, and headed toward his office, my heart pounding loudly. My hands were shaking slightly, but I tried to keep them steady.I pressed the

I took a quick shower, washing away the wetness from last night. I had nothing much to do today, so I decided to take a walk to my old house. There were a few trinkets left that I wanted to take back to the palace. I pulled on jeans and a blouse, grabbed my empty bag and went downstairs. The Blue Palace was almost empty, almost empty, except for a few servants and a maid. I slipped out the front door and walked down the street.I hesitated at the front door, debating whether to knock. Just as my hand wrapped around the doorknob, the door swung open."I told you she would come," Dad yelled at his wolf. "Will it hurt you if I have any faith in you?"Dad raised an eyebrow and muttered something unintelligible, and his face lit up when he saw me in the doorway."Back already," Dad chuckled, looking happier than he had in weeks. "Getting on Alpha Kane's nerves yet?""Of course not," I smiled innocently. The pulsing between my legs was a constant reminder of Alpha's touch. "You know I would

I visibly squeezed my legs together as I sat in the middle of Alpha's bed. His musky scent lingered invitingly through the blanket, urging me to stop struggling and let Alpha do whatever he wanted.I wanted to be a good girl for him; I did, but he was making things difficult. The irritation of my disobedience was so tempting, I couldn't help myself.I watched in stunned silence as Alpha removed the belt he wore, holding the thick material between his fingers. His eyes never left mine."Put your hands behind your back." Alpha's voice was deathly calm, the rage contained for a moment, but still boiling in his mind.My jaw dropped, the blood rushing to my face."He'll probably strangle us," Nova moaned, her voice nearly making me jump."I don't think he meant it that way," I muttered, embarrassment flooding my face.I'd imagined Alpha taking me all the time, but I'd never really imagined what I'd do when it happened. That fact only reminded me how inexperienced I was."No way," I chuckle
