During lunch break, I decided to make a stop at the hospital. I had gone there the previous day to have a test done, and the results were probably ready by now. I'd been experiencing severe pelvic pain for the past two days, and it had only gotten worse yesterday. I had no idea what was wrong with me. At first, I assumed it was probably due to my acute hormonal imbalance, but I couldn't be certain. My doctor had insisted that I get some tests done before they could determine the cause and prescribe any treatment. Yesterday hadn't been limited to a hospital visit either. I'd also stopped by the impound compound and managed to get my car back. I tapped my heels lightly against the floor as the elevator descended toward the parking garage. When the doors slid open, I stepped into the dimly lit space and made my way toward my car. I pressed the button on my key fob, and the locks on my red Ferrari Roma clicked open. I slipped into the driver's seat, running my hands over the steering wheel as a small smile touched my lips. God, I'd missed this baby. I started the engine and drove out of the garage, heading toward the hospital. The drive would take roughly ten minutes, which meant I had about ten minutes to get there, another ten to get back, and maybe five or seven minutes to grab something for lunch before I had to return to work. It wasn't much time, but hopefully, the appointment wouldn't take long. When I arrived at the hospital, I made my way to my regular doctor's office, since he was expecting me. The hallway smelled faintly of antiseptic, and my heels clicked against the polished floor as I walked, each step a little too loud in my own ears. Dr. Kevin was going through a stack of documents when I entered, but he immediately looked up and stood when he saw me. "Myra." He glanced at his watch, then set his pen down. "Oh, I almost forgot I was supposed to see you today. Please, have a seat." "Thank you, Dr. Kevin." I took the seat across from his desk, smoothing my skirt beneath me out of habit more than necessity. "I'll go get your results from the lab. Give me a second," he said, and walked out of the office. I sat there waiting, lightly tapping my fingers against the armrest. The clock on the wall ticked steadily, and somewhere down the hall a cart rattled past. I was certain the results wouldn't show anything unusual. The pain was probably just another effect of my hormonal imbalance. Once Dr. Kevin figured out what was wrong, I'd get whatever treatment I needed and be on my way. He returned a few minutes later with a file in his hand. He walked over and handed it to me, but I noticed the unusual seriousness in his expression, the way his mouth pressed into a thin, careful line. "What did the results say?" I asked, slowly opening the file. "The results came back positive, Myra." I paused, my fingers going still against the paper. "Positive for what?" I asked, looking up at him. "You're pregnant." For a moment, I simply stared at him, brows furrowing. "What?" "You're pregnant, Myra," he repeated, gentler this time, as though the softness in his voice could cushion the words. My eyes widened, and I shook my head in disbelief. "How is that possible?" I whispered. "I can't be pregnant." I quickly lowered my gaze to the results, scanning the page myself as though I might find something that proved he was wrong. But the result was right there in black and white. There was no way I could be pregnant. "This is impossible. I was told it would be almost impossible for me to conceive. You told me that my chances were ten to zero out of a hundred percent." I raised the paper in my hand, my grip tightening until the edges crumpled slightly. "This has to be a mistake." Dr. Kevin sighed, adjusting his glasses. "Normally, given your history, we wouldn't expect this, but the blood tests are definitive. You're roughly eight days along," he explained. I still held the test paper in my hands, as though it would suddenly vanish and this would all turn out to be some crazy daydream I was having. But I knew it wasn't. This was very much real. My hands slowly dropped to my stomach. I was carrying a living baby inside me, something I had desperately craved for more than six years. Yet I didn't know how to feel about this pregnancy, especially since I knew exactly who the father was. Jade certainly wouldn't want this baby. I mean, who would? Who would willingly take responsibility for a pregnancy that came from a one-night stand with a divorced woman? "I understand that with your recent separation from your husband, things might be difficult for you, Myra. But if you need advice on what to do with the pregnancy, I can recommend some options," Dr. Kevin said gently, folding his hands on the desk. "It's fine," I replied quickly. "Thank you, Dr. Kevin." I stood from my seat, clutching the test results in my hand, my knuckles pale against the paper. "Will you inform Vincent about this?" he asked. I slowly shook my head. "No." I didn't bother explaining that the baby wasn't Vincent's. He didn't need to know that. I thanked him once more before leaving the office, my footsteps quicker now, as if I could outwalk the thoughts crowding my mind. The moment I got into my car, I leaned my head back against the seat and closed my eyes. My chest rose and fell in slow, uneven breaths, and my hand found its way back to my stomach. Talk about bad timing. This was absolutely the worst time for me to get pregnant. I was conflicted about whether to keep this pregnancy to myself or tell Jade about it. He at least deserved to know, considering he was responsible for it. But I was stuck at a crossroads, completely unsure which path to take.Jade's P.O.VPicking up the first file from the coffee table, I slowly read through it. I scanned the information about one of the potential surrogate mothers, who was sitting directly across from me on the leather sofa, tracking my movements.I glanced at the woman, and she flashed me a wide, bright smile, shifting her posture with total confidence.I adjusted the file on my lap, settling back against the cushion to create some professional distance.“I see here that your blood type is A positive,” I said, more as an observation than a question.“Oh, yes, it is, Mr. Dantrix,” she replied, leaning forward eagerly. “And might I also add that I have really strong genes?”My eyes lifted from the file to her face, my expression remaining completely flat.“Strong genes?” I repeated, questioning her phrasing. She nodded proudly, tipping her chin up with an air of immense self-assurance.“My mother had twins, and both my grandmother and great-grandmother also had twins.”One of my brows arch
Jade's P.O.VDespite how far the night had gone from my original plan, things finally seemed to be going smoothly. Myra and I were having our drinks and carrying on a normal conversation.I asked a few simple, surface-level questions, trying to get a better idea of who she was outside the office.I now knew that her favorite color was red, she was allergic to fish, and that her favorite season was winter.I had never really had a favorite season before, but I was seriously beginning to think winter could become mine.“You still haven't told me how you got my address and phone number,” Myra said in the middle of our conversation as she took another sip of her iced peach tea.“Your phone number was already on the company's employee list. As for your address, well...” I paused, a small smile tugging at my lips. “You could say I stalked you.”Her brows furrowed. “You stalked me?”“Yeah.” I leaned back slightly, watching the subtle way her expression shifted. “After your third day at the o
Myra's P.O.VMy fist clenched.I simply stared at Vincent, trying to decide whether I had heard him clearly or not."Excuse me?"He took another step toward me, his expression darkening. "You heard me clearly," he said. "Or would you like me to repeat what I said?"The audacity of the man almost made me want to laugh. Who exactly did Vincent think he was?"You came into this private lounge unannounced, and that's the first thing you chose to say to me.""Are you trying to deny it?" he asked, his eyes narrowing. "You expect me to believe there's nothing going on between you two?"I folded my arms across my chest, refusing to let his accusation or irritating presence get under my skin. I was already boiling on the inside, and one more idiotic thing from him was going to make me snap."Is that jealousy I sense from you, Vincent?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. His jaw hardened even further. I was almost certain his teeth were beginning to ache from how tightly he was clenching them."
Myra's P.O.V"Stop overthinking," he murmured, his voice sounding deep and sinfully tempting. His face slowly drew closer to mine, and I did not pull back; I did the very opposite by inching closer to him. When our lips met, it felt like an electric spark, the kind that gave a hint of excitement and vulnerability at the same time. His arms wrapped around my waist, and he pressed me against his body, while my fingers locked into his hair.As the kiss deepened, the cool rush of mint from his mouth clouded my tongue. Beneath it lingered something warm and faintly sweet, like dark chocolate. That made me press closer, craving more of that intoxicating mix."Um, Jade... sir," a woman said from behind Jade.My eyes snapped open and, like a trance cut off, I broke the kiss. Jade's arms still held me firmly, like he wasn't ready to let go.His frame was blocking my view, so I couldn't see the woman who had spoken."Did you forget how to knock?" Jade snapped."I'm sorry. I knocked but no o
Myra's P.O.VIt was Jade's voice. I looked across the pavement over at him, and he had his phone pressed tightly to his ear, a smug smirk resting on his face.I immediately ended the call and walked over to where he stood."How did you get my phone number, Jade?" I asked, crossing my arms.He shrugged casually, a glint of amusement in his eyes."I'll tell you when we get to where we're going," he replied smoothly. He shoved his phone into his pocket and handed me a heavy black helmet."Put this on."Despite my unanswered question, I took the helmet from his hands and slid it over my head, carefully fastening the chin straps into the buckle until it clicked securely. He pulled on his own helmet and swung his leg over the seat, getting onto the bike."Hop on, my lady," he said, turning the key.I crossed my leg over the leather seat and sat down directly behind him. I was a bit hesitant to hold onto his waist, but the exact second the engine roared to life with a violent shudder, I
Myra's P.O.V"...and that concludes everything for the week, Mr. Dantrix," I said, holding the iPad down as I finished the full run-through of the office schedule. It was apparently something Jade liked to do every Friday before he closed for the day. He preferred to go through the week's activities to see how he could improve his schedule for the next week."Thank you, Myra," Jade muttered, giving his leather chair a single, smooth spin. "Finally, I can start enjoying my weekend effective immediately."He seemed to be in a very good mood today. I was tempted to ask him what had put him in such a fine spirit, but I quickly suppressed my curiosity."I guess that means I get to close early today, right?" I asked."Yeah, but before you leave, I should congratulate you," he said with a smile."Congratulate me for what?" I questioned, slightly confused as to what I was being rewarded for.His grin stretched even wider, pulling back to reveal a perfect set of gleaming white teeth."Fo
