Chapter 202

Cynthia's POV

I didn't know where Bryan was taking me.

The car moved smoothly through the darkened streets of Missford, the city lights blurring past my window like streaks of watercolor paint. I should have asked. Should have cared. Should have paid attention to where we were going.

But I couldn't.

All I could think about was Amber.

My baby.

My sweet, brilliant, innocent boy.

Out there somewhere. Alone. Scared. Possibly hurt.

The image of him on that CCTV footage played on an endle

Chapter 215Ethan's POVI glanced at the rearview mirror one last time before pulling away from the Laurent mansion, and what I saw made my jaw clench so hard I thought my teeth might crack.Bryan.Standing there with his hand on Cynthia's shoulder.Touching her.Comforting her.Like he had any right.Like he belonged there. My hands tightened around the steering wheel until my knuckles went white.Did Bryan have a death wish?Acting all affectionate with Cynthia right there in front of Kevin Laurent's house? And where the hell was Kevin, anyway?I hadn't seen him come out. Hadn't seen him hovering protectively around Cynthia the way I'd expected. In fact, I hadn't seen any sign of him at all.Had he traveled? Was that why Cynthia felt comfortable inviting Bryan over? The thought twisted something ugly in my chest. What the hell was Cynthia up to?Why did it feel like I knew nothing about her anymore? She was my wife. The mother of my child. The woman I'd spent eleven years married to

Chapter 214Cynthia's POVI wasn't shocked that Ethan would pull a stunt like this.Showing up unannounced, leaning on his horn like some unhinged person, making a scene loud enough to wake the entire neighborhood — it was exactly the kind of reckless, impulsive thing Ethan did when he felt cornered. What amazed me was how quickly he'd done it.Less than thirty minutes had passed since our phone call, and here he was, outside the Laurent gates, demanding our son like I'd kidnapped him.I walked toward the gate slowly, my arms crossed tightly over my chest, trying to keep my composure even though anger and exhaustion were warring inside me.The security guards stood uncertainly to the side, clearly waiting for my instruction. Bryan hovered nearby, his expression tense, like he was preparing to intervene if things escalated. And Ethan…Ethan sat in his car, hands gripping the steering wheel, jaw clenched, eyes locked on mine with an intensity that made my chest tighten. He looked wrecke

Chapter 213Ethan's POVI didn't waste a single second. The moment I ended the call with Cynthia, I was already moving — grabbing my keys, shoving my phone into my pocket, heading straight for the car.Amber was at the Laurent mansion. With them. With Kevin Laurent. With God knows who else she'd invited into our son's life without my permission. And I was done.Done waiting. Done being patient. Done letting Cynthia dictate the terms of our son's life while she paraded him around her wealthy, perfect new world like some kind of accessory. If she thought she could keep Amber there — in that house, with those people — she was out of her mind.I drove faster than I should have. The city blurred past my windows, streetlights streaking into long lines of gold and white. My hands gripped the steering wheel so tightly my knuckles ached. My jaw was clenched. My heart pounded with a mixture of rage and desperation that made it hard to think straight. All I knew was that I needed my son.Now.Th

Chapter 212Cynthia's POVI stared at my phone screen, Ethan's words still echoing in my head."Bring my son back home."Not a request. Not a plea.A command.Like I was some kind of servant he could order around.Like I hadn't just spent the past few hours terrified out of my mind, thinking our son was lost, kidnapped, hurt — or even worse.Like he hadn't been the reason Amber went missing in the first place.Rage flooded through me so violently my hands shook.I ended the call.Just hung up on him.Because if I stayed on that line one more second, I was going to say something I couldn't take back. What the hell was wrong with him?Why was he angry? He was the one who'd brought Amber to that event uninvited. He was the one who'd been too busy stalking me to keep an eye on our son. He was the one whose jealousy and possessiveness had put Amber in danger. And now he had the audacity to act like I was the problem?"Cynthia."My mother's voice cut through the fog of anger.I turned to fi

Chapter 211Nikolai's POVI stood in the security room long after everyone else had left, my arms crossed, my jaw tight, watching the monitor replay the footage of Amber running from that woman.I was told the police had arrived. Taken statements. Promised updates. Assured everyone they'd track down the taxi and locate the child as quickly as possible. But none of it felt fast enough. Not when Cynthia was out there somewhere, terrified, falling apart, blaming herself for something that wasn't even remotely her fault.Despite Ethan's obnoxious demand that I stay behind, I'd continued my own investigation.I wasn't about to sit idle while Cynthia suffered.I'd pulled the head of security aside and instructed him to coordinate directly with the police. I'd personally called the officer in charge and requested priority status on the case. I'd made it clear that Cross Energy would cover any costs associated with the search — overtime, additional personnel, whatever was needed.Money talked

Chapter 210Kevin's POVJulian wasn't supposed to be back. He'd left for his "vacation" earlier today—or what everyone else thought was a vacation but I now knew was time with Tony. He should have been halfway across the city by now, settled into whatever hotel or apartment they'd chosen for their two weeks together. But instead, he was here.In his room at the Laurent mansion. And I knew exactly why.He wanted to talk.Needed to talk.Because I'd shown up at that restaurant, seen him with Tony, confirmed the truth he'd been hiding his entire life. And now everything had changed between us.Downstairs, the house was alive with conversation. Cynthia was still making phone calls, Helen was fussing over him with blankets and hot chocolate, Nathaniel was making calls to update the police, and Mom was dozing off on the couch. No one noticed when I slipped away.I climbed the stairs slowly, my chest tight, my mind still struggling to fully process what I'd learned tonight.I reached Julian'
