POV: Aria

The Plaza Hotel lobby was chaos.

Police officers swarmed through the grand space, their radios crackling with urgent chatter. Guests huddled in corners, their faces pale with shock. And in the center of it all, Victor Sterling was being led away in handcuffs, his eyes blazing with hatred.

Aria watched him go, her body trembling with adrenaline. She'd done it. She'd actually done it. The man who'd killed her mother, destroyed her marriage, and terrorized her family was finally being taken away.

But she didn't feel victorious. She felt hollow. Empty. Like she'd given everything she had and had nothing left.

"Aria." Damien's voice was soft, his hand on her shoulder. "Are you okay?"

She turned to face him, her eyes meeting his. "I don't know. I don't know how I feel."

Damien pulled her into his arms, holding her tight. "You're safe. That's all that matters."

Aria leaned into him, letting herself feel the warmth of his embrace. For a moment, she forgot about everything else—the pain, the betrayal, the months of fighting. She just let herself be held.

"Thank you," she whispered. "For everything."

Damien pressed a kiss to her forehead. "Always."

The next few hours were a blur of police statements and interviews. Aria gave her testimony, her voice steady, her answers precise. Damien stood beside her, his presence a quiet anchor in the chaos.

Grace was there too, her expression calm but watchful. And Vanessa—Vanessa was in protective custody, her testimony secured, her future uncertain.

Margaret Chen approached them, her expression serious. "Aria, I need to tell you something. Victor's lawyers are already filing motions. They're going to try to get the charges reduced or dismissed. This is going to be a long fight."

Aria nodded slowly. "I understand. I'm not giving up."

Margaret's lips curved into a small smile. "I didn't think you would. But I wanted to prepare you. Victor Sterling has powerful connections. He's going to use every resource he has to escape justice."

"Then we'll use every resource we have to make sure he doesn't." Aria's voice was firm. "I've come too far to stop now."

Margaret nodded, respect flickering in her eyes. "I'll be in touch. Stay safe."

By the time they left the Plaza, the sun was rising over the city. Aria stood on the sidewalk, watching the light spread across the buildings, and felt something she hadn't felt in months.

Hope.

"It's over," she said, her voice barely a whisper. "It's finally over."

Damien stepped beside her, his hand finding hers. "It's over. Victor is going to prison. You're safe. Your family is safe."

Aria nodded, a tear sliding down her cheek. "I never thought this day would come. I never thought I'd see justice."

Damien reached out, wiping the tear from her face. "You made this happen, Aria. You were the one who fought for justice. You were the one who never gave up."

Aria looked at him, at the man who'd broken her heart and was trying so desperately to put it back together. "I couldn't have done it without you."

Damien shook his head. "You would have found a way. You're the strongest person I know."

Aria felt her heart clench. "Damien—"

"I know." He stepped closer, his voice raw. "I know we have a long way to go. I know I don't deserve your forgiveness. But I'm asking for a chance. One chance to prove that I've changed."

Aria was silent for a long moment. Then she said, "I need time. I need to heal. I need to figure out who I am without all of this."

Damien nodded slowly. "I understand. And I'll wait. As long as it takes, I'll wait."

Aria reached out, her fingers brushing his cheek. "Thank you," she said softly. "For understanding."

Damien turned his head, pressing a kiss to her palm. "Always."

They drove back to Grace's brownstone in silence, the weight of the past few days pressing down on them. When they arrived, Aria felt a wave of exhaustion wash over her.

"I need to sleep," she said, her voice barely a whisper. "I need to rest."

Grace nodded, her expression gentle. "Go. We'll be here when you wake."

Aria walked up to her childhood bedroom, her steps heavy, her mind spinning. She collapsed onto the bed, her body aching, her heart full.

She was finally safe. Finally free. Finally able to rest.

And as she drifted off to sleep, she felt something she hadn't felt in months.

Peace.

She woke to the sound of birdsong and the soft light of afternoon filtering through the curtains. For a moment, she didn't remember where she was or what had happened. Then it all came flooding back—the chase, the arrest, the victory.

She sat up, stretching, and heard voices from downstairs. Grace. Damien. And someone else—a voice she didn't recognize.

She padded downstairs, her feet bare against the worn hardwood, and found Grace and Damien in the kitchen, speaking with a woman in a sharp suit.

"Aria," Grace said, her face lighting up. "This is Margaret Chen. She has news."

Aria's heart raced. "What kind of news?"

Margaret rose, extending her hand. "Victor Sterling has been formally charged. Conspiracy, fraud, bribery, and murder. He's being held without bail."

Aria felt tears prick at her eyes. "Really?"

"Really." Margaret smiled. "And with the evidence you provided, I'm confident we'll get a conviction. Your mother is going to get the justice she deserves."

Aria sank into a chair, her legs suddenly weak. "I don't know what to say."

"You don't have to say anything." Margaret's voice was warm. "You've already done everything."

After Margaret left, Aria sat in the kitchen, a cup of tea in her hands, her mind still reeling.

"It's over," she said, her voice barely a whisper. "It's finally over."

Damien sat across from her, his grey eyes soft. "It is. And now you can start living again."

Aria looked at him, at the man who'd broken her heart and was trying so desperately to put it back together. "I don't know what comes next," she admitted. "I've been fighting for so long, I don't know how to stop."

Damien reached across the table, his hand covering hers. "You don't have to figure it all out today. You just have to take it one day at a time."

Aria nodded slowly. "And what about you? What comes next for you?"

Damien was silent for a long moment. Then he said, "I'm going to spend the rest of my life earning your trust. One day at a time."

Aria felt her heart clench. "Damien—"

"I know." He squeezed her hand. "I know you're not ready. But I needed you to know. I needed you to understand."

Aria was silent for a long moment. Then she said, "I don't know if I can ever fully trust you again. I don't know if I can ever forgive you."

"I know." Damien's voice was steady. "And I'll wait. As long as it takes, I'll wait."

Aria looked at him, at the man who'd broken her heart and was trying so desperately to earn it back. She didn't know what the future held. She didn't know if they'd ever find their way back to each other.

But for the first time in months, she was willing to try.

The weeks that followed were quiet. Aria threw herself into Aster Luxe, determined to make it a success. The business had grown in her absence, thanks to Emma's tireless work, and now it was ready for the next phase.

She worked late into the night, reviewing designs, meeting with investors, planning for the future. It was exhausting. It was exhilarating. And it was exactly what she needed.

Damien was never far away. He called every day, just to check in. He sent flowers, books, little gifts that reminded her of their time together. He was patient, respectful, never pushing.

And slowly, almost imperceptibly, Aria began to lower her walls.

One evening, she was working late when the door to her office opened. Damien stood in the doorway, a takeout bag in his hand.

"I brought dinner," he said, his voice tentative. "I thought you might be hungry."

Aria looked at him, at the man who'd broken her heart and was trying so desperately to put it back together. "I am," she said softly. "Come in."

They ate together, talking about nothing and everything. It was comfortable. Easy. Like the old days, before everything fell apart.

"This is nice," Aria said, her voice barely a whisper. "I'd forgotten what this felt like."

Damien reached across the table, his fingers brushing hers. "I'd forgotten too. But I want to remember. I want to rebuild."

Aria looked at their hands, at the warmth of his touch, at the hope in his eyes. "Maybe we can," she said softly. "One day at a time."

Damien nodded, a slow smile spreading across his face. "One day at a time."

That night, Aria lay in bed, staring at the ceiling. She'd spent months running from her feelings, pushing Damien away, protecting herself from further pain.

But maybe, just maybe, it was time to stop running.

She reached for her phone, typing a message to Damien.

"Thank you for dinner. It meant more than you know."

His reply came instantly: "I'll bring it every night if you want."

Aria smiled, her heart light for the first time in months.

"I'd like that," she typed. "I'd like that a lot."
