PEACEFUL DAYS

(Serena's POV)

The next morning started like any other. Elena left early for her nonprofit interview, kissing Isabella goodbye and whispering good luck wishes in my ear. I had my own busy day planned with client calls and a potential new project that could really help our finances.

Isabella was in her high chair, making a delightful mess with her breakfast while I reviewed notes for my first video call. The apartment felt peaceful in the morning with light streaming through our small windows. For the first time since leaving New York, I felt like we were truly building something stable.

My phone buzzed with a text from Elena. "The interview went amazing! They want to offer me the position. I'll give you the details when I get home tonight."

I smiled, feeling genuinely happy for the first time in months. Things were finally looking up for both of us.

Isabella had been saying "Mama" more frequently now, and yesterday she had tried to say "up" when she wanted me to pick her

THE PROPOSAL(Damien's POV)I had been dreading this evening all day, but nothing could have prepared me for how suffocating dinner actually was. Claire Henderson hung on my every word, laughed at my barely coherent attempts at conversation, and looked at me like I was the answer to all her prayers.Eleanor watched our interaction with the satisfaction of a matchmaker who had made a perfect pairing. Victoria kept making encouraging faces at me from across the table, clearly delighted that Eleanor was finally arranging my romantic future."Damien was just telling me about the charity gala this weekend," Claire said to Eleanor during dessert. "It sounds wonderful.""Oh yes, it's going to be quite the event. All the city's most influential families will be there. It's the perfect place for young couples to be seen together." Eleanor smiled. The way Eleanor emphasized young couples made me want to crawl under the table."I've never been to anything so grand," Claire said, looking at me wi

CALIFORNIA DREAMS(Serena's POV)The small apartment in Long Beach was nothing like the luxury I had once known, but it felt more like home than anywhere I had lived in years. Two bedrooms, one bathroom, a tiny kitchen with appliances that had seen better days, and a view of the parking lot instead of the ocean. But it was ours, paid for with what remained of my savings, and Eleanor Blackwood had no idea where we were.Isabella was crawling now, pulling herself up on furniture and getting into everything she could reach. Watching her explore this new world with fearless curiosity gave me strength. She didn't know we were running from anything. To her, this was just life, and life was an adventure."She's definitely going to be trouble," Elena said, catching Isabella just before she could grab a hot coffee mug from the side table."She gets that from her father," I said, then immediately regretted mentioning Damien.Elena gave me a look but didn't comment. We had an unspoken agreement

THE GOLDEN CAGE(Damien's POV)A month had passed since Serena left the city, and I was drowning in the life Eleanor had designed for me. Every morning I woke up in my bedroom at the mansion, surrounded by memories of who I used to be before Eleanor broke me completely. The room felt different now, heavier somehow. The same expensive furniture, the same view of the perfectly manicured gardens, but now it felt like being trapped in a beautiful prison. Eleanor had insisted on that family photo session she mentioned, claiming it would be perfect for the family image. What she really meant was that she wanted the world to see us as a united, and loving family.I sat at the breakfast table, pushing eggs around my plate while Eleanor read the morning newspapers aloud. She did this every day now, making sure I heard every word of praise for her heroic actions."Listen to this one, Damien," she said, her voice bright with satisfaction. "The Mayor wants to give me a key to the city. They're ca

LIVING WITH THE MONSTER(Damien's POV)I sat in my corner office the next morning, staring at the newspaper headlines spread across my desk. Every major paper in the city was running the same story, with slight variations in wording but the same basic narrative."BLACKWOOD MATRIARCH SAVES WOMAN FROM DERANGED STALKER""ELEANOR BLACKWOOD: HERO OR GRANDMOTHER?""FROM VICTIM TO SAVIOR: HOW ONE WOMAN'S COURAGE STOPPED A KILLER"The photos were all flattering shots of Eleanor looking dignified and composed. In some of them, she was dabbing at her eyes with a handkerchief, the picture of a traumatized but brave woman who had risked everything to save an innocent victim. There was no mention of the months of harassment Eleanor had orchestrated against Serena. No questions about the convenient timing of Lucian Grey's death. No investigation into the financial manipulation or the destroyed evidence.Eleanor had won completely. My phone buzzed with a text from Victoria. "Have you seen the mornin

NEW BEGINNINGS(Serena's POV)The airport was crowded even at this late hour. I sat in the departure lounge, holding Isabella close while trying to ignore the stares from other passengers. My face had been all over the news as the woman Eleanor Blackwood had heroically saved from a deranged stalker.I checked my boarding pass again. Flight 447 to Los Angeles, departing in thirty minutes. A new city, a new life, a new chance to disappear from Eleanor's reach.Isabella stirred in my arms and opened her eyes. She looked up at me with those beautiful eyes that reminded me so much of Damien. Would she ever know her father? Would she grow up wondering why he never came looking for her?"Serena!"I heard my name called across the terminal and my blood went cold. Had Eleanor found me already? Had she sent someone to stop me from leaving?I turned around and saw Elena hurrying toward me, dragging a large suitcase behind her. Her face was flushed and she looked out of breath from running."Elen
