The next day, Amara stood in front of the tallest building she had ever seen.

For a moment, she didn’t move.

Her eyes traced the sleek glass structure as it stretched endlessly into the sky, reflecting sunlight so sharply it almost hurt to look at. The building didn’t just stand there—it dominated. It commanded attention in a way that made everything around it feel smaller, less significant.

Including her.

Her palms were slightly damp, and she rubbed them together nervously before adjusting the strap of her bag.

“Relax,” she whispered under her breath. “It’s just a job.”

But even as she said it, she knew it didn’t feel like “just a job.”

There was something different about this.

Something bigger.

Taking a deep breath, she walked toward the entrance. The glass doors opened automatically, and the moment she stepped inside, she felt it.

Wealth.

Not loud or flashy—but controlled, deliberate, and undeniable.

The floors were polished marble, so clean they reflected her steps. The walls were made of glass and steel, giving the space an open, almost intimidating elegance. Even the air felt different—cool, quiet, and carefully maintained.

Everything was perfect.

Too perfect.

Amara straightened slightly, suddenly aware of how simple she must look in comparison to her surroundings. But she pushed the thought aside quickly. She wasn’t here to impress anyone.

She was here for work.

At least… that’s what she told herself.

A receptionist greeted her with a polite smile and directed her without asking unnecessary questions. It was as if they had been expecting her.

Of course, they had.

Within minutes, she was being escorted to a private elevator. The ride up felt longer than it actually was, her reflection staring back at her from the mirrored walls.

“You’re fine,” she muttered softly.

But her reflection didn’t look convinced.

The elevator stopped.

The doors opened.

And suddenly, everything felt quieter.

The top floor was different from the rest of the building. Less busy. More private. The kind of space reserved for people who didn’t need to prove anything—because their power spoke for itself.

Her guide stopped in front of a large door.

“This is where you go in,” he said politely before stepping away.

Amara nodded, her heart beating just a little faster now.

She reached for the handle.

Paused.

Then pushed the door open.

And there he was.

For a second, she forgot how to breathe.

He stood near the far side of the room, tall—impossibly tall—with the kind of presence that filled the space without effort. He was dressed in a perfectly tailored black suit, every detail sharp, precise, intentional.

But it wasn’t just his appearance.

It was the way he carried himself.

Calm.

Controlled.

Powerful.

The kind of man who didn’t need to speak loudly to be heard.

His gaze lifted to meet hers, steady and unhurried, as if he had already been aware of her presence before she even walked in.

“Amara Mensah,” he said, his voice low and composed.

It wasn’t a question.

“Yes,” she replied, forcing herself to stay grounded despite the sudden tension in the room.

He took a step forward.

“I’m Adrian Cole.”

The name hit her instantly.

Her breath caught.

She froze where she stood, her mind struggling to process what she had just heard.

Adrian Cole.

Everyone knew that name.

A billionaire. A tech mogul. A man whose success stories filled headlines and whose personal life remained a mystery. He was known for his intelligence, his ambition—and most of all, his privacy.

And now she was standing in his office.

Being hired by him.

“You want me…” she began slowly, still trying to find her balance, “to write your story?”

“Yes,” he replied simply.

No hesitation.

No explanation.

Just certainty.

Amara blinked, trying to steady her thoughts.

“Why me?”

It was the only question that made sense.

There were thousands of writers out there. More experienced ones. More established ones. People who had built entire careers on storytelling.

So why her?

Adrian didn’t answer immediately.

Instead, he walked closer, his movements calm but deliberate, until the distance between them felt… noticeable.

Intentional.

His gaze didn’t leave hers.

“Because you don’t believe in love.”

The words landed softly—but their impact was anything but.

Amara felt her chest tighten slightly.

“How do you know that?” she asked, her voice quieter now.

“I read your work,” he said.

Simple.

Direct.

“You write love like it’s something people hope for…” he continued, his tone measured, “…but never truly get.”

She swallowed.

No one had ever said it out loud before.

But he was right.

And somehow, that unsettled her more than anything else.

“And you want me to write your love story?” she asked, her voice carrying a hint of disbelief.

For a brief moment, something shifted in his expression.

Not quite a smile.

But close.

“No,” he said.

The answer was immediate.

Certain.

He stopped just a step away from her, his presence impossible to ignore now.

“I want you to live it…”

Amara’s heart skipped.

“…and then write it.”

Silence filled the room.

Heavy.

Uncertain.

And for the first time since she walked into that building…

Amara realized something she hadn’t considered before.

This wasn’t just a writing job.

It was something else entirely.

Something she didn’t yet understand.

And somehow…

That made it even more dangerous.

Tears filled Amara’s eyes as she leaned against Adrian, the weight of the past weeks melting into quiet relief. The storm of emotions—betrayal, longing, fear, hope—had settled, leaving only clarity and a warmth she hadn’t known she could feel so fully. “This wasn’t part of the story,” she whispered, her voice trembling but full of awe. She looked up at him, trying to process the improbable truth of the moment. Every line she had written, every fictional ending she had imagined in her life, paled compared to this reality. Adrian smiled softly, a rare, unguarded expression that lit his features and softened the edge of the world around them. “Then write a new one,” he said quietly, brushing a strand of hair from her face with gentle fingers. She laughed through her tears, a sound that mingled relief, disbelief, and joy. “A real one?” she asked, her voice a mixture of hope and incredulity. “A real one,” he confirmed, pressing a soft kiss to her temple. His hand found hers, lacing fi

  • The Billionaire’s Hidden Vow    CHAPTER ELEVEN: THE CHOICE

Amara’s phone buzzed late that evening. The message was short, simple, and almost impossibly direct: Meet me. Please. Her fingers hovered over the screen, her mind a storm of emotions. Part of her wanted to ignore it, to protect herself from further heartbreak, from the possibility of being used again. But another part—a louder, more insistent part—urged her to go. She slipped into her coat, feeling the chill of the evening air prick against her skin as she stepped out into the quiet city streets. The familiar rhythm of her heels against the pavement felt grounding, yet every step toward the designated meeting place made her heart pound in anticipation. And there he was. Adrian stood beneath a streetlight, the soft glow casting shadows across his face, highlighting the sharp angles that had always captivated her. But tonight, there was no suit, no carefully curated image, no distant air of control. He looked… human. Vulnerable, unguarded, and entirely present. “I broke my contr

  • The Billionaire’s Hidden Vow    CHAPTER TEN: THE BILLIONAIRE WHO LOST EVERYTHING

Adrian closed the deal. The signature on the final contract felt heavier than any he had ever signed. The merger was complete, the acquisition finalized, the expansion secured. Every checkbox ticked, every clause satisfied. He had achieved what he had set out to do—money, power, influence, and a position in the corporate world that few could even dream of. And yet… The mansion, once alive with careful structure, whispered with emptiness now. The marble floors reflected only his solitary figure, the polished hallways echoing the absence of laughter, warmth, and presence. Every room, from the sprawling library to the minimalist kitchen, felt colder than before, as if the walls themselves mourned the absence of someone they had quietly grown accustomed to. For all his achievements, Adrian felt a hollowness that wealth and success could never fill. He could buy influence, buy recognition, buy almost anything—but he could not buy her. Amara. Her name burned in his mind, a constant r

  • The Billionaire’s Hidden Vow    CHAPTER NINE: WALKING AWAY

Amara left without looking back. The car door closed behind her with a soft click, the sound echoing like a final punctuation in the chapter of her life she had just abandoned. She told herself it was just a job—a business arrangement, a temporary role in someone else’s life that she had agreed to for money, for opportunity, for experience. But her heart refused to listen to reason. It throbbed, insistent and unrelenting, with a rhythm she couldn’t control. Every memory of Adrian—his measured gaze, the rare softness in his eyes, the subtle warmth in moments she had once thought were pretend—replayed endlessly in her mind. She clenched her hands in her lap as the city passed by outside, trying to convince herself that what they had shared was just acting. Just a contract. Just business. Days turned into weeks. She tried to immerse herself in work, in deadlines, in writing prompts and ghosted stories that demanded her focus. But every attempt to write Adrian’s story became a torme

  • The Billionaire’s Hidden Vow    CHAPTER EIGHT: THE TRUTH

Everything fell apart the moment Amara discovered the truth. She hadn’t expected it—not like this, not in the brutal, quiet way that reality has of hitting harder than any storm or argument. She had believed in the arrangement, in the rules, in the carefully defined boundaries Adrian had laid out. She had convinced herself that this was just business, a contract to navigate, a story to live and then write. But the truth… the truth was far more complicated, far more painful. It came in the form of a conversation she overheard. Words spoken casually, but with weight and certainty, words that shattered the fragile world she had begun to inhabit. The engagement, she learned, wasn’t simply a personal experiment. It wasn’t a temporary bond meant to explore emotions or test boundaries. It was part of a merger—a high-stakes deal that demanded Adrian appear emotionally stable, grounded, and… convincingly in love. And after the deal? He was expected to marry someone else. Someone who fit

  • The Billionaire’s Hidden Vow    CHAPTER SEVEN: WHEN PRETEND BECOMES REAL

Weeks passed, and with each day, the boundaries they had so carefully drawn began to blur. What was once a clear arrangement of rules, contracts, and rehearsed gestures slowly morphed into something neither of them could fully control. Late-night conversations—originally meant to fill awkward silences—turned into laughter. Laughter became comfort, a rare sense of ease in a world where everything around them was carefully curated and controlled. And comfort, in its quiet and subtle way, began to grow into something deeper, something neither Amara nor Adrian dared to name. One evening, a violent storm rolled over the city. Rain hammered against the windows like tiny fists, lightning streaked the sky, and the wind howled through the trees outside. The mansion, normally a haven of control and perfection, seemed suddenly vast, cold, and unfamiliar. Amara froze as the lights flickered and then went out entirely. Darkness swallowed the rooms, making the elegant lines of the mansion disap
