LOGINChapter 5
Dress
***
POV: Lawrence David McGregor
Like always, I am playing with an old black marble in between my fingers.
My mind is in deep thoughts.
It is as if trying to calculate every bit of my decisions.
Right.
Richness. Power. Authority. Connections.
It comes with a heavy burden and calculated decisions.
If not, it can vanish in a snap.
For the last five years, I have tried to stay away from the spotlight because of what happened to me and Velice.
Her name instantly makes me mad – even just by thinking about it.
It is the very reason why I always want to be lowkey.
Working as a construction worker. Sometimes a laborer. Mostly any low-income earner – making sure to hide my identity and pretend to live a simple life.
Aside from the fact that I was able to learn from the people around me, I was able to determine how to improve, leading the company into new heights.
Not until last year.
I smirk at that thought.
At first, I didn't really care about women.
In fact, not in my imagination can I still think of one – after Velice.
I don’t really care about them.
However, this old-fashioned woman intrigued me.
She seems to be young but always trying to look old.
I don’t get it.
And no matter how much I try to understand what she is trying to do – I end up getting more and more curious about her.
She seems so confident and capable. So, I won’t buy that she lacks fashion sense.
Until I realize who she really was that night… When I saw her light brown eyes.
Princess Aurelia Morgan.
How could I forget?
I smirk darkly.
I look at the old black marble in my hand and slowly put it down on that small red velvet case when my phone rings.
It is Seth.
Joseth Iverson Thompson, my best friend, who seems like the news has finally reached him.
I smirk at that thought.
“What?” I automatically fired at him – the very moment I answered the call.
I sounded so cold, so he faked a hurting sound from the other line.
I almost dropped the call because of his mischief.
“If you have nothing to say, I’ll drop this now.” I daunted him – causing Seth to groan as if he is simply so sad.
“What the heck, bro!? You didn’t even bother telling me that you are getting married?!” Seth uttered frustratedly on the other line.
I sneer with sarcasm.
“And how did you know that?” I asked him instead.
He groans – as if he is trying to stretch his patience at me.
Well in fact, I was the one who should be patient with him – for his childishness.
“The boutique told me. A certain Lawrence David McGregor is setting up for an appointment to create a pair of wedding outfits. I thought it’s just a prank!” He said, filled with exaggeration – that I almost ended the call.
I shake my head – even though Seth can’t see me.
“Whatever. I need to go.” I seriously stated but he cut me off.
“Wait, wait… Is this for real?!” He uttered unbelievingly.
I let out a deep sigh.
“Damn! I have to book my tickets now… Wait! I thought Velice is still abroad?” Seth asked – making me more and more irritated.
“Shut the f*ck up… She is not the one I am marrying…” I told him, annoyed – before cutting the line off.
I shouldn’t have answered his call.
I let out a deep sigh before sending a message to Lia.
We need to go to the boutique – mentioned by Seth, and so, we have to be there.
I want this to be done – as soon as possible.

POV: Lia Salvador
I faked another smile – as Cali teases me about marrying ‘the love of my life’ – I almost want to grunt in frustration.
I let out a deep sigh.
Then, I hear my phone beep – I almost roll my eyes as I read his name on my phone screen.

From: Renz
Go to the boutique now for the wedding outfits.

I inwardly let out a groan in frustration.
It’s as if he is texting his secretary and not his wife-to-be.
‘Well, it isn’t as if he is marrying you for love, duh!’ My mind commented sardonically.
I clench my teeth.
‘As if I am marrying him for love, too, duh?!’ I thought mockingly.
‘You like him, duh!’ A part of me retorted back – making me grunt in infuriation.
I know that it is our schedule for the tailor. So, I bid my goodbye to Cali and went to the boutique.
Of course.
I don’t have a choice but to follow what I’ve been told.
This time, I can’t stop myself from feeling so emotional.
I have been trying to find my freedom. I have been trying to stop someone who would want to run my life – manipulate my choices to be exact.
But here I am.
It is as if I am back to square one.
Do I have a choice?
Yes, I do.
But it’s between choosing who could manipulate me – my parents or Renz?
And I think the latter is a better choice than the first.
I am hoping that I can still have – even a bit – of freedom if I follow Renz.
That is the least that I can hope for.
I let out a deep sigh – as I entered the premises of a high-end boutique.
It is such an exclusive one – even my parents can’t afford to enter this place. It makes me realize that Renz is truly a read deal. He might be a better choice, then.
“Choose anything that you like. I know that this might be a rush – but I don’t want you to look shabby in our wedding. Don’t worry about the cost or about your parents…” Renz said the last words slowly – like he is putting an emphasis on it.
I totally understand.
He is telling me that this would certainly be a hush-hush and no one from my family would know.
Well, it is what I have been waiting and hoping for.
I nod my head at him.
“That is better.” I simply replied and faced the attendant.
I bit my lower lip – as I stared at the lovely dresses in front of me.
This time, I realize that no matter how simple – everything in this boutique screams of extravagance.
I hold the simplest off-shoulder white wedding dress that hugs my small waist perfectly – putting an accent on my figure and falls just on my ankles.
It has no trail nor any shiny diamonds or beads – but only a modest gleaming fabric.
The design is very complicated, but the simplicity of the fabric made it more appealing.
“I want to try this on.” I kindly told the attendant – and just a matter of minutes, I was able to wear the wedding dress.
My knees are already trembling – and I don’t even know the reason why.
I don’t want to think that I am getting anxious by Renz’ reaction – but to be honest, I am!
I breathe slowly – trying to calm my nerves – and swallow hard.
I look at myself in the mirror.
And at the last minute, I decided to remove my eyeglasses – making the attendant gasp in admiration.
“Y-You are such a beauty, Miss.” She uttered in pure appreciation.
I simply give her a genuine smile and take another deep breath.
And before I knew it – the curtain opened, revealing me in front of Renz.
I swallow the lump in my throat – as I feel like my thumping heart seems to be on the edge now.
Renz blinks his eyes a few times before his forehead creases.
I clear my throat – hoping to get some words from him.
But I almost grunt in disbelief when all I could have is his freaking nodding.
“I should have chosen the most expensive one…” I murmured under my breath because of so much annoyance.
Chapter 11Doubts***POV: Lia Salvador“W-What… W-What did you just s-say?”Renz smirks at me.It was as if he wasn’t buying my expression – as if telling me to stop making excuses… to stop lying to him.But I am not lying. How could he say that?‘To marry him?’Then, it suddenly hit me.‘My parents went the extra mile just to make it come true?’I close my eyes.Damn it!“Why? Does it ring a bell now?” Renz is trying to push all of my buttons. It is working. But not to the way he is thinking about – not for the same reason that I knew he might be thinking of.My parents.I can’t believe they finally resort to this.Even when I have already run away. They are still at it!Damn it!I anxiously run my finger on my hair.“I… I don’t know…” I uttered in a whisper. But Renz won’t just buy it. He chuckles without humor.“Stop playing so innocent, Princess Aurelia…”For the second time, he calls me by my real name. And for the second time, my heart skips its beat. However, it isn’t the time
Chapter 10Reason***POV: Lia SalvadorIt takes me time to finally gather myself. What the heck!I just kissed Lawrence McGregor!Who wouldn’t have their legs get wobbly if that happens?!I swallow hard – as I slowly open the door.I instantly close my eyes because of the ear-splitting noise coming from the door as it opens. The eerie sound coming from the door is just too embarrassing for me to hear right now.It just makes my heart race like a mouse who might be caught by a cat – lurking behind the door.My eyes instantly look around – trying to spot where Renz is.But he is nowhere to be found.Well, I couldn’t help but to breathe heavily.I don’t even know whether it is a good thing or not.Well, for a moment, I just feel so embarrassed. I don’t know how to react. I don’t even know what to say. However, I know I need clarifications.I just don’t know whether I could handle talking to him right now.I moved slowly out of my room.It seems to be a miracle that I am able to move my
Chapter 9Real***POV: Lia SalvadorI called Cali earlier in the morning to tell her that I couldn’t go to work today. My sprained ankle still hurts – and I told her that I couldn’t go to work. However, despite my painful ankle, memories about last night filled my thoughts, enough for me to smile brightly.I bit my lower lip to ease the tickling sensation on my stomach – like butterflies lingering inside it.“You are just starving, Lia. Get a grip of yourself girl…” I whispered to myself – as I was trying to stifle my own sheepish smile that keeps on appearing.Damn it!I couldn’t help but feel excited.Even until now, I could still feel Renz’ strong arms on me. It might be strong, but I could feel his gentleness on me.His strong arms brought that kind of thrill and filled my inner excitement to the moon. Not to mention his contracting biceps – giving me that warmth and serenity.I must say that being able to experience what it feels like to be caged inside his arms made me more and
Chapter 8Forget***POV: Lia SalvadorI lost track of time – just by talking to Eina.We have a lot of things to talk about. And I can’t believe that I felt so exhausted to the verge of feeling so down right now.It seems like my mind is spinning spirally. I don’t know what to think of anymore.I let out a deep sigh.*** Flashback…“You got married?!”I am just grateful that we are far away from the other customers.Eina didn’t change one bit.She is still so loquacious.I eyed her – as if telling her to keep her voice low. And it seems like she immediately understands and pouts her lips.If we are in a different situation, I would have let out a bark of laughter because of the way she looks right now – but then, that isn’t the case.We are in serious trouble. So, I began telling her about my contract marriage with Renz.Eina is my distant cousin. And she is my most trusted best friend – a sister that I couldn’t have. I trust her fully enough to tell her everything. On the contrary,
Chapter 7Best Friend***POV: Lia SalvadorIt’s been two weeks. Two freaking weeks after my wedding with Renz.I already moved out of my apartment and lived with him in his small, simple house.Well, he is disguising himself as a construction worker anyway. I don’t even know why he is doing all of that. However, that is beyond the point. It’s been two f*cking weeks, and it seems like I haven’t got a husband.I don’t know whether he is just busy or he is avoiding me.This setup is already draining my brain cells.I purse my lips together into a thin line. For some reason, would it be good enough to have this kind of situation now? It would be better that we don’t have anything to do with each other – like strangers. However, a huge part of me just wouldn’t let me think that way.Especially my heart.I swallow hard.“Hey! You are early today…” Cali points out – as she enters the café.I try to give her a small smile.“Well, I woke up early so…” I trail off – didn’t know what to say mor
Chapter 6Question***POV: Lia SalvadorI thought I could still flex my wedding dress at some people. It might look so simple, but I truly love it!Renz made me think so.However, I am wrong.I didn’t even have a chance to invite Cali.If I knew that it would end up like this – I should have asked for the money he spent on this dress and wore that white dress inside my dresser, which I used when I was asked by our neighbor to be her daughter’s godmother. But then, I realized that this could be a better option.First, no one could blow up my cover. Better be careful than be caught up with my parents later on.And second, we will soon get a divorce. It would be hard for me to explain to people how we ended up like that. Of course, no one would ask Renz – but to me, it’s a different case. I don’t want to bug my mind out – thinking of possible reasons to say.I discreetly rolled my eyes because of my thoughts.Besides, it is as if this is a ‘real’ wedding. I mean. Yes, we did sign the ma
Chapter 2 Tragic Night *** POV: Lia Salvador “I’m really sorry for the short notice, Lia.” Cali apologetically told her. I smile at her. “It’s okay, Cali. I understand. Besides, it is an emergency. You need to tend your grandma. Family first, right?” I reminded her. I suddenly felt a hollowne
