ログインChapter 4
Choice
***
POV: Lia Salvador
“Marry me, Lia.”
Being dumbfounded is an understatement.
After what happened to me last night – here’s another surprise of fate.
I want to let out a loud curse – but I simply counted one to ten to calm my raging nerves.
Of course, the proper etiquette class just wouldn’t let me lose my confidence or my patience at that – no matter how much I want to scream right now and act so unladylike.
“You don’t have any other choice, Lia. You must marry me.” Renz's cold voice sent shivers down my spine.
It came out in a whisper that no one around – even Cali – couldn’t hear him say those words, or I might call it a threat instead.
Even if it was too hard to do so, I have to gather all my sane thoughts.
Would I say yes or no?
I can’t stop myself from cursing inside my head already.
I don’t know what to do.
My insides are twirling like I want to puke and simply fake a moment of passing out.
‘Damn! You are in deep trouble, Lia!’ My mind is already in chaos as it murmurs those words.
‘What to do?’ Those words come like a mantra – whispering inside my head, as if it is enough to clear it.
‘Should I say ‘no’?’ I ask myself.
I shake my head.
No.
I know that it won’t do me good.
That is not a good idea.
Renz’ words aren’t empty.
I knew that.
It was a simple warning – and I knew that he could do more if he wanted to, given his background.
I grit my teeth in irritation.
His background.
I swallow the bitterness dripping inside my mouth.
I knew exactly what he meant by that.
Connections. Power. Money.
Everything.
And I know that it won’t do me any good now.
No matter what I do, he has the upper hand.
‘Don’t you want that? He is asking you to marry him! He’s a catch! And you are attracted to him!’ A part of me is already shrieking with excitement – no matter how much I try to hide.
It seems like it is already filled with giddiness and anticipation.
“I am waiting, Lia…” Renz gave me a cold smile as he said those words – as if it is the final indication that he could ever give me.
The last stretch of patience.
The remaining piece of chance.
Not to mention, the way he calls my name seems to be his very last notice for me.
I let out a deep sigh.
“Y-Yes…” I replied fakely – as I gave him a small smile.
He instantly slips the simple diamond ring on my ring finger and stands up.
Cali giggles and congratulates us.
Even the few people inside the café celebrate with us – as if it is real.
Well, it might be to them.
But not to me.
“Thanks. Uhm, I… I mean, we need to talk about something. Will talk to you later, okay?” I immediately told Cali as she is about to ask me more about my relationship with Renz.
I know that.
Especially when she eyed me with playfulness before nodding her head.
I discreetly sigh with relief before giving her a small smile and pulling Renz – I mean, Mr. McGregor – out of the café.
I decided to go to the backdoor instead.
At least we could have privacy at that.
“You are smart. You can easily get into this drama.” The great Lawrence David McGregor praised me – but I know that it isn’t that way.
I purse my lips together – as I try counting one to ten inside my head.
“What do you want from me? I am just a simple woman trying to live my life, Mister.” I told him seriously – hoping that he still has other reasons for asking me for marriage.
Deep inside me, I am still hoping that he doesn’t know the real me and that he is just doing this randomly.
However, my hope eventually vanished as he opened that sexy mouth of his.
“You know, let’s drop these nonsensical explanations. Let’s get straight to the point now. I know who you are, Princess Aurelia Morgan. And I have some propositions to ask you.” He directly stated – causing me to swallow hard.
My heart begins thumping like it is a horse in a race.
“You have to be my wife-”
“And if not?” I cut him off – causing him to smile at me sinisterly.
I bit my tongue inside my mouth – trying to stop the words that wanted to escape from it.
“Princess Aurelia Morgan.”
My name that came from his mouth is enough to shatter whatever ounce of hope left inside my heart.
“Is it enough for you to say ‘yes’ to me?” Renz uttered playfully.
I purse my lips tightly.
“Can I ask why you are doing this? You can have all the women in the country – even abroad. Why me?” I ask in between my gritting teeth.
He gives me a cold look – sending me shivers down my spine.
For a moment, I want to take back the words I said.
However, I won’t.
“If we are going to do this, then, at least give me a reason.” I told him dauntingly.
But Renz just smirks at me devilishly.
It almost blows my sane thoughts away.
‘How could someone like him be so attractive and spiteful at the same time? Damn it!’ My mind tries to comment – but I immediately castigate it from my mind.
“Let’s see…” Renz trailed off – as he looked at me like he was assessing every bit of my being.
I almost want to punch his lovely face.
Well, I haven’t done that in my entire life – maybe it will be very exciting. Of course, it’s a fooling idea.
I clench my jaw at that.
“I want you to pretend to be my wife. And it’s because I know… I won’t fall for you. You are the perfect person for that.”
That is, it.
So simple.
As if everything that he says is as easy as one, two, three.
“And I know that you need me… So, you won’t be exposed.” He added darkly.
This time, I know I am cornered.
It seems like my freedom ends here.
However, a part of me feels like it doesn’t matter – if it is for this billionaire bachelor, Lawrence David McGregor.
Chapter 11Doubts***POV: Lia Salvador“W-What… W-What did you just s-say?”Renz smirks at me.It was as if he wasn’t buying my expression – as if telling me to stop making excuses… to stop lying to him.But I am not lying. How could he say that?‘To marry him?’Then, it suddenly hit me.‘My parents went the extra mile just to make it come true?’I close my eyes.Damn it!“Why? Does it ring a bell now?” Renz is trying to push all of my buttons. It is working. But not to the way he is thinking about – not for the same reason that I knew he might be thinking of.My parents.I can’t believe they finally resort to this.Even when I have already run away. They are still at it!Damn it!I anxiously run my finger on my hair.“I… I don’t know…” I uttered in a whisper. But Renz won’t just buy it. He chuckles without humor.“Stop playing so innocent, Princess Aurelia…”For the second time, he calls me by my real name. And for the second time, my heart skips its beat. However, it isn’t the time
Chapter 10Reason***POV: Lia SalvadorIt takes me time to finally gather myself. What the heck!I just kissed Lawrence McGregor!Who wouldn’t have their legs get wobbly if that happens?!I swallow hard – as I slowly open the door.I instantly close my eyes because of the ear-splitting noise coming from the door as it opens. The eerie sound coming from the door is just too embarrassing for me to hear right now.It just makes my heart race like a mouse who might be caught by a cat – lurking behind the door.My eyes instantly look around – trying to spot where Renz is.But he is nowhere to be found.Well, I couldn’t help but to breathe heavily.I don’t even know whether it is a good thing or not.Well, for a moment, I just feel so embarrassed. I don’t know how to react. I don’t even know what to say. However, I know I need clarifications.I just don’t know whether I could handle talking to him right now.I moved slowly out of my room.It seems to be a miracle that I am able to move my
Chapter 9Real***POV: Lia SalvadorI called Cali earlier in the morning to tell her that I couldn’t go to work today. My sprained ankle still hurts – and I told her that I couldn’t go to work. However, despite my painful ankle, memories about last night filled my thoughts, enough for me to smile brightly.I bit my lower lip to ease the tickling sensation on my stomach – like butterflies lingering inside it.“You are just starving, Lia. Get a grip of yourself girl…” I whispered to myself – as I was trying to stifle my own sheepish smile that keeps on appearing.Damn it!I couldn’t help but feel excited.Even until now, I could still feel Renz’ strong arms on me. It might be strong, but I could feel his gentleness on me.His strong arms brought that kind of thrill and filled my inner excitement to the moon. Not to mention his contracting biceps – giving me that warmth and serenity.I must say that being able to experience what it feels like to be caged inside his arms made me more and
Chapter 8Forget***POV: Lia SalvadorI lost track of time – just by talking to Eina.We have a lot of things to talk about. And I can’t believe that I felt so exhausted to the verge of feeling so down right now.It seems like my mind is spinning spirally. I don’t know what to think of anymore.I let out a deep sigh.*** Flashback…“You got married?!”I am just grateful that we are far away from the other customers.Eina didn’t change one bit.She is still so loquacious.I eyed her – as if telling her to keep her voice low. And it seems like she immediately understands and pouts her lips.If we are in a different situation, I would have let out a bark of laughter because of the way she looks right now – but then, that isn’t the case.We are in serious trouble. So, I began telling her about my contract marriage with Renz.Eina is my distant cousin. And she is my most trusted best friend – a sister that I couldn’t have. I trust her fully enough to tell her everything. On the contrary,
Chapter 7Best Friend***POV: Lia SalvadorIt’s been two weeks. Two freaking weeks after my wedding with Renz.I already moved out of my apartment and lived with him in his small, simple house.Well, he is disguising himself as a construction worker anyway. I don’t even know why he is doing all of that. However, that is beyond the point. It’s been two f*cking weeks, and it seems like I haven’t got a husband.I don’t know whether he is just busy or he is avoiding me.This setup is already draining my brain cells.I purse my lips together into a thin line. For some reason, would it be good enough to have this kind of situation now? It would be better that we don’t have anything to do with each other – like strangers. However, a huge part of me just wouldn’t let me think that way.Especially my heart.I swallow hard.“Hey! You are early today…” Cali points out – as she enters the café.I try to give her a small smile.“Well, I woke up early so…” I trail off – didn’t know what to say mor
Chapter 6Question***POV: Lia SalvadorI thought I could still flex my wedding dress at some people. It might look so simple, but I truly love it!Renz made me think so.However, I am wrong.I didn’t even have a chance to invite Cali.If I knew that it would end up like this – I should have asked for the money he spent on this dress and wore that white dress inside my dresser, which I used when I was asked by our neighbor to be her daughter’s godmother. But then, I realized that this could be a better option.First, no one could blow up my cover. Better be careful than be caught up with my parents later on.And second, we will soon get a divorce. It would be hard for me to explain to people how we ended up like that. Of course, no one would ask Renz – but to me, it’s a different case. I don’t want to bug my mind out – thinking of possible reasons to say.I discreetly rolled my eyes because of my thoughts.Besides, it is as if this is a ‘real’ wedding. I mean. Yes, we did sign the ma

Chapter 2 Tragic Night *** POV: Lia Salvador “I’m really sorry for the short notice, Lia.” Cali apologetically told her. I smile at her. “It’s okay, Cali. I understand. Besides, it is an emergency. You need to tend your grandma. Family first, right?” I reminded her. I suddenly felt a hollowne
