FIVE YEARS AGO

Alessa stared with no expression on her face as she listened to Bryan’s words over the phone. She waited for the tears to well up in her eyes or to feel the pain in her heart but she didn't.

Nothing happened.

“You are an asshole.” she heard Rico say on the phone.

“Alessa, are you there?” Rico asked as he walked out of the warehouse.

“Hmm,” Alessa replied and he sighed.

“I’m sorry you had to hear that, I just wanted to prove to you that I am not friends with Bryan and I am on your side,” he said and Alessa sighed.

“Yeah, I know. I made a mistake,” she said as she ran her hand through her hair.

“My kids, Rico. They are with Madam Olga,” she said with her voice breaking.

“I’m sorry Alessa. I can't get them back. If I show up or try to do anything, she would suspect that you reached out to me and that will be bad for you.”

“But why did she lie to me in the first place? Why did she try to make you look bad just to get my kids from you? What does she want with them?” Ales
