Aria didn’t sleep.

Not even for a second.

The room they had given her—no, the room that was now supposed to be hers—was too big, too quiet, too unfamiliar. Every shadow felt like it was watching her, every creak of the walls reminding her that she was no longer in her family’s house.

She was in his.

Adrian Blackwood’s home.

Her prison.

The wedding dress still clung to her body long after she had been left alone, its beauty now suffocating instead of comforting. The weight of it pressed against her chest like a reminder she couldn’t escape.

You’re my wife now.

The words replayed in her mind, over and over again.

Aria clenched her hands into the sheets, her nails digging into the fabric.

No.

She refused to accept this.

This wasn’t her life.

This wasn’t her choice.

And she wasn’t going to stay here and pretend like it was.

A decision settled inside her chest, sharp and sudden.

She was leaving.

Tonight.

---

The mansion was silent.

Too silent.

Aria stood at the bedroom door, her hand hovering over the handle as she listened carefully. No footsteps. No voices. No sign of movement in the long hallway beyond.

Good.

Slowly, she turned the handle and slipped out.

The corridor stretched endlessly in both directions, dimly lit by soft golden lights along the walls. Paintings lined the space—expensive, elegant, and cold. Everything about this place felt controlled. Perfect.

Just like him.

Aria swallowed and moved quietly, her bare feet making almost no sound against the polished floor. She had changed out of the wedding dress into something simpler—a dark outfit she had found in the closet, soft and easy to move in.

Her heart pounded as she walked.

Every second felt like it could shatter.

She didn’t know the layout of the mansion, but she remembered enough from earlier—the grand staircase, the entrance hall, the large doors that led outside.

If she could just get there—

Freedom.

The thought pushed her forward.

Faster.

Her breath came shallow as she reached the staircase, pausing briefly to glance down. The massive living room below was empty, the lights dimmed, the silence almost unnatural.

No guards.

No staff.

Nothing.

A small flicker of hope sparked in her chest.

Maybe… maybe it would be easier than she thought.

Maybe he had underestimated her.

Aria moved down the stairs quickly but carefully, her hand trailing lightly along the railing. Each step echoed softly, making her wince as she tried to stay quiet.

Almost there.

The doors stood just ahead.

Tall. Dark. Unlocked—hopefully.

Her pulse quickened as she crossed the last stretch of floor, her fingers reaching out toward the handle.

This is it.

She grabbed it.

Turned.

The door didn’t move.

Aria frowned, her heart skipping.

No.

She tried again, harder this time.

Still nothing.

Locked.

A cold realization settled over her.

Of course it was locked.

Why wouldn’t it be?

Her chest tightened, panic beginning to creep in.

Okay… okay, think.

There had to be another way.

A back entrance. A side door. Something.

She turned quickly, scanning the room, her mind racing.

And that’s when she heard it.

A slow.

Deliberate.

Clap.

The sound echoed through the silence like a gunshot.

Aria froze.

Her blood ran cold.

“Well done.”

The voice came from behind her.

Low.

Calm.

Terrifyingly familiar.

Aria’s heart slammed violently against her ribs as she turned slowly.

He stood at the base of the staircase.

Adrian.

Dressed in black, his sleeves rolled up slightly, his posture relaxed—too relaxed. Like he had been expecting this. Like he had been waiting.

Watching.

Her stomach dropped.

“You made it further than I thought you would,” he continued, his gaze fixed on her with unsettling intensity.

Aria swallowed hard, forcing herself to speak despite the fear tightening around her throat.

“You locked the doors.”

It wasn’t a question.

Adrian’s lips curved slightly.

“Of course I did.”

Her hands clenched at her sides.

“You planned this,” she said, her voice shaking with anger now. “You knew I would try to leave.”

“I didn’t know,” he corrected calmly.

“I expected it.”

That somehow felt worse.

Aria took a step back, her mind racing for another escape route, another option—

“There isn’t one.”

The words cut through her thoughts instantly.

She stilled.

Adrian tilted his head slightly, studying her.

“You’re thinking too loudly,” he added.

Her chest tightened.

“You don’t get to keep me here,” she snapped.

“I don’t have to,” he replied smoothly. “You’re predictable you know......

Anger flared inside her, hot and sharp.

“I’m not staying here,” she said firmly, lifting her chin despite the fear still coiled in her chest. “You can’t force me.”

Adrian’s expression didn’t change.

But something in his eyes did.

Something darker.

He began to walk toward her.

Slowly.

Each step measured.

Intentional.

Aria’s breath hitched as instinctively she stepped back.

Then again.

Until her back hit the door behind her.

Trapped.

Again.

“Did you really think,” he said quietly, his voice low and dangerous, “that you could just walk out of here?”

“Yes,” she shot back, though her voice betrayed her with a slight tremor. “Because this isn’t a prison.”

“No?”

He stopped just inches away from her.

Too close.

The air between them felt charged, heavy, impossible to escape.

“Try opening the door again,” he murmured.

Aria glared at him but didn’t move.

“Go on.”

Something in his tone made her hesitate.

But then—

She reached back and grabbed the handle again, twisting it with more force this time.

It didn’t budge.

“Now try the windows,” he continued calmly.

Her stomach twisted.

“You’re lying.”

“Am I?”

Aria pushed past him suddenly, moving quickly toward the nearest window. Her heart raced as she grabbed the latch and pulled.

Nothing.

She tried another.

Locked.

Another.

Still locked.

Panic surged through her veins.

She turned back to him, her breathing uneven.

“You—”

“Locked,” he finished for her.

Her chest rose and fell rapidly.

“You can’t do this,” she said, her voice breaking slightly now. “This is illegal.”

Adrian raised an eyebrow.

“Is it?”

“Yes!”

“And who,” he asked softly, stepping closer again, “is going to prove it?”

The question hit harder than it should have.

Because deep down…

She knew the answer.

No one.

No one would believe her.

No one would stand against him.

Her hands trembled.

“This is insane,” she whispered.

“No,” Adrian said calmly.

“This is control.”

The word sent a shiver down her spine.

“I told you,” he continued, his gaze locking onto hers, “you don’t get to walk into my life and walk out whenever you please.”

Aria shook her head, anger mixing with fear.

“I’m not something you can just keep,” she snapped. “I’m not—”

His hand shot out suddenly, grabbing her wrist.

The movement was so fast, so unexpected, that she gasped.

“You’re my wife,” he said, his voice dropping dangerously low.

His grip tightened—not enough to hurt, but enough to make a point.

“And that means you are something I can keep.”

Aria’s breath caught.

For a moment, neither of them moved.

The tension between them stretched, thick and suffocating.

Then—

She pulled her hand back sharply.

“Don’t touch me,” she said, her voice shaking but firm.

Something flickered in his eyes.

Not anger.

Not exactly.

Something more complicated.

But it disappeared just as quickly as it came.

“Then don’t give me a reason to,” he replied coolly.

Aria stared at him, her chest heaving.

“I hate you.”

The words slipped out before she could stop them.

Silence followed.

Heavy.

Unforgiving.

Adrian didn’t react immediately.

He just watched her.

Studied her.

As if weighing something.

Then—

“Good,” he said.

The single word stunned her.

“What?” she whispered.

His lips curved slightly—not into a smile, but something close.

“Hatred is honest,” he said. “It’s better than lies.”

Aria shook her head, confusion and frustration tangling inside her.

“You’re insane.”

“Perhaps.”

He didn’t deny it.

Didn’t even seem bothered.

Which only made it worse.

“Get some rest,” he added after a moment, turning away from her as if the conversation was already over.

Aria stared at his back in disbelief.

“That’s it?” she demanded. “You’re just going to lock me in here and act like everything is normal?”

He paused.

Then glanced back at her over his shoulder.

“This is normal now.”

The words settled like ice in her veins.

“No,” she said, shaking her head firmly. “It’s not. And I won’t let it be.”

Adrian’s gaze lingered on her for a moment longer.

Then—

“We’ll see.”

And just like that, he walked away.

Leaving her standing there.

Alone.

Trapped.

Her chest tightened painfully as the reality of her situation crashed down on her.

The doors were locked.

The windows were sealed.

There was no way out.

Not tonight.

Maybe not ever.

Aria slid down against the door, her knees giving out beneath her as she pressed her hands against her face.

Tears burned in her eyes, but she refused to let them fall.

Crying wouldn’t help.

Fear wouldn’t help.

She needed to think.

To plan.

To survive.

Her hands slowly curled into fists.

Fine.

If he thought she would just accept this—

He was wrong.

Very wrong.

Because Adrian Blackwood might have locked her in his house…

But he hadn’t broken her.

Not yet.

And as long as she still had her will—

She would find a way out.

No matter what it took.

  • The Billionaire’s Substitute Bride   She's back

The invitation came in the afternoon.Aria had just gotten back from school and was still in her outside clothe, sitting on the couch with her legs tucked under her when one of the maids walked in and handed her the envelope.“It was delivered a few minutes ago,” the maid said before leaving.Aria frowned slightly, turning the envelope over in her hand. She didn’t need to guess who it was from. Something about it already made her uneasy. She opened it slowly.Inside was a neatly written card.Dinner tonight. You and your husband should come. We need to talk.No names. No greetings. Nothing soft about it.She didn’t move for a while after reading it.Her fingers tightened slightly around the card. She already knew who it was.Her parents. Her stomach turned a little.A part of her wanted to ignore it completely. • The Billionaire’s Substitute Bride   Mood Swings

Aria didn’t realize how quickly her mood could switch until it actually started happening. One moment she was calm, sitting quietly on the bed with a blanket wrapped around her waist, slowly eating the snacks Adrian had bought for her. The next moment, she felt irritated for no clear reason. Everything suddenly felt too much. The room felt too quiet, then too loud. Even the way Adrian walked in and out of the room started to annoy her.She frowned slightly, watching him as he adjusted the curtains.“Why are you moving around too much?” she muttered.Adrian paused and looked at her. “I’m just fixing the curtains.”“Well, stop. It’s annoying.”He raised a brow but didn’t argue. He stepped away from the window and walked back toward her. “Alright.”She looked away, hugging the pillow closer to herself. A few seconds passed, then she glanced at him again.“Why are you standing there?” she asked.Adrian almost laughed. “You just told me to stop moving.”She didn’t respond immediately. Inst

  • The Billionaire’s Substitute Bride   Not Used To This

She just stayed there, comfortable, pressed against Adrian’s chest with his arm around her like always. It felt normal now.Too normal. Then the pain hit.Sharp.Sudden.Her eyes flew open immediately, her body stiffening as a wave of discomfort spread through her lower abdomen. She shifted slightly, curling in on herself out of instinct, but it didn’t help much. She knew this feeling.Too well. Her period. And just her luck—it had to come now.She let out a slow breath, trying to steady herself, but the dull ache had already settled deep, spreading across her lower stomach and back.It wasn’t something she could just ignore. It never was.Beside her, Adrian stirred slight

  • The Billionaire’s Substitute Bride   Not Just An Arrangement

“I have something to tell you.”Aria’s heart skipped. There was something in Adrian’s voice that made her sit up a little straighter on his lap. It wasn’t cold. It wasn’t commanding. It was… careful. That alone made her nervous. She searched his face, trying to read him. “You’re starting to scare me.”“I’m not trying to,” he said quietly.“Then why do you sound like that?”He didn’t answer immediately. His fingers tightened slightly at her waist, like he needed something to hold onto.Aria felt it.The hesitation. That was new.Adrian never hesitated.“Just say it,” she murmured. He looked at her again, his gaze steady but deeper than usual.“I know we got married under abnormal circumstances,” he began slowly. “There was no love at the beginning.”Aria didn’t interrupt. She just listened. Her fingers curled slightly against his shirt.Adrian continued, his voice still calm, but there was something underneath it now.Something real.“Everything between us started… wrong.
