Nico~

“I would rather get shot in the head than have a tiny bite of chocolate.” I made my point by chugging down the last glass of wine.

Shawn shook his head and Mike muttered something in Spanish that seemed like an insult. We always argued like this all the time.

“Speak English, Mike!” I rolled my eyes.

“Who hates chocolate? I love all things chocolate,” Shawn’s gaze was fixated on a lady in front, “like that dark chocolate rocking it on the dance floor, for example…”

“Okay, Shawn is gone. My turn…” I was searching the bar for a pretty thing to take home tonight.

“How about you, Mike? Who are you going home with tonight!” His question was met with a rough pat on his back where Mike winced in pain.

“I wish one day you both realize this habit has to stop.” Mike warned. “I have a girlfriend and you two idiots should find yourselves one too.”

“How are we going to find ourselves one if we don’t go out more often?” My head was buried in the crowd, searching.

“Gay Mike, always pretending he’s got a girlfriend,” Shawn cackled.

“I do have a girlfriend!” Mike insisted.

I didn’t believe him too. “Then let us meet her. That’s if she’s real, you know…it’s not just all in your head, is it?” Shawn roared out in laughter. He said something but I didn’t hear because I found my girl.

Slender, seated alone at the bar counter. “I found my prize,” I announced to the gang.

“Same. I’ve got my eyes on chocolate diva at 6 o’clock.” Shawn said. Then he added, “Gay Mike has got his eyes on a gay dude at the back.”

“The bouncer?” I blurted out, but he immediately pounced on us.

“Fuck off!”

We separated, laughing at the top of our lungs.

“I have a girlfriend, why won’t you believe me?” Mike shouted from behind. “I don’t cheat.”

“Sure thing, man,” I muttered under my breath. When would he stop being delusional? There was a man seated next to the red-haired lady. I tapped him gently, “hey, here’s a hundred bucks. Find a new place to sit.”

He eyed me up and down, snatched the money from my hand and left. I sat down beside her. She needed to meet me…to see me. Taking a closer look at her, I realized her eyes were slightly puffy. Rosebud lips pouted, the way her posture loosened gave the impression she’d been fed up of life. Maybe she looked tired from all the drinking.

I leaned towards her and said in a whisper, “I need to have some of what you’re having.” She sniffed, turning to look at me. We were so close now I could feel her breath on mine. Our eyes locked and for a moment, something jumped inside of me. That soft gaze that lingered a little too long stirred something inside of me.

She was not just drunk. This lady was sad, fed up of life. I felt pity for her. “No, I wasn’t going to take advantage of her, not when she’s like this.” I decided to leave. Maybe offer to pay for her drink first.

Leaning further away, I sat upright. To my surprise, she did not move an inch. She sniffed in loudly. “Sure. You can have what I’m having.” Her voice was loud, too loud that everyone else in the bar might have heard too. “Here you go. A cheating bastard, loneliness, guilt, poverty, an empty account balance,”

Blinking, I turned around to make sure I wasn’t the only one who’d just heard that. It was like she was singing off-key, or rapping. This was my cue to get up and leave.

All of a sudden, a loud wail was heard. It took me a moment to realize it came from her. “Damn it, you’re loud.”

It wasn’t an ordinary cry. I remembered when my mother burst out in tears after the news of her dad’s death. He had been sick and after spending a lot, the doctors assured he would live. She had screamed out, shaking uncontrollably. We held her down, I was fifteen years then. Oh, did my mother cry!

Now, this lady’s crying was ten times louder. My face flushed from shame. “Please,” I pleaded softly, “I’m sorry. Let me leave,”

That only got out more tears.

More eyes stared at me, questioning me, some judging me already.

“I don’t know her.” I said, an awkward chuckle following. This woman had the nerve to hold me by the collar of my shirt and sink into my shoulders. I couldn’t stand up. I couldn’t move. I turned and found half of the bar’s eyes staring back at me. “I swear, I don’t know her.”

More tears filled the room. The music even reduced, worsening the situation.

“Why are you… Please. Stop it!” All my pleas were to no avail.

“Hey, don’t you dare break up with her!” A slender lady warned.

Another man yelled out, “take care of her.”

Other people began to offer their uninteresting opinions and advice. They did not stop her from crying.

At this point, I’d already given up. “Please, let’s go.” She insisted, and struggled with me but I managed to hold her tight as I supported her out of there.

“I haven’t even paid my drinks,” she cried out.

“Shushhh, hey, I got it. I’ll pay for it. Just let’s go,” Even when we got outside, I could still hear people muttering, their eyes still lingering on me, judging me.

Immediately we got out, she pulled free from me and… after a slow deep breath, she knuckled her tears.

I could not believe my eyes. “Oh, so that’s it? You’re done now?”

What kind of girl did I pick up tonight? Clearly she wasn’t in her right sense. Still, I was so angry. I didn’t want to say anything, in case it started the whole tears drama all over again.

“Miss?” I called her attention because she was staring deeply into nothingness. “Here, I have…” I emptied my wallet, “260 dollars with me. Can it get you home?”

She made me wait, my stomach churning already. Then she spat out, “I don’t have a home.”

I half expected her to cry again but her face got so tough so fast. “Whoa, so you just decided to embarrass me in front of everyone. Why do you hate me so much? You don’t even know me!” Or did she? “Have we…dated before—”

She cut me off, “I may have been able to stand your garlic breath, but others can’t. And your cologne is making it all worse again. Here,” she reached for her purse and handed me a mint gum. “Chew for at least 30 seconds before you talk to anyone again.”

I could only stare in shock. Garlic breath??

“Also, stay away from whiskey. It can make things worse for your breath. Try lemon-rich cocktails. Pineapple, mint, they’re all good.”

“Wait, excuse me?” This was how she would apologize for embarrassing me?

But I was more interested in how she knew. “I had some garlic bread hours ago. How did you even…and I brushed!”

“Hey bro!” I heard someone mutter from behind, but my attention was still drawn to her.

“Wait. Tell me, how did you…okay, uh, what’s your name?”

A strong pat disoriented me as I turned to find Shawn laughing and teasing. “You’re on TikTok!”

I had just turned for a split second. Then she was gone. “Nooo! Where is she?” I queried Shawn. Mike ran outside to join us too.

“Where’s who?” He asked. But she was already gone. How did I lose her?

Camila~I could see through his cracking knuckles and the deep scowl on his face. Dark set of eyes were heavily fixated on me. "What was that?" He blurted. I was trying to remain as calm as possible. "You embarrassed me, so you shut up and listen to me.""I helped you. For years, you have been married to me. Is this how you wish to repay me? By humiliating me like this! What would Caleb think?"I didn't understand what he'd just said. My voice was as cool as a gentle breeze. I couldn't afford to start crying again. "Jaxon? I don't get you at all. You slept with Caleb's teacher. My own friend. You chased me out of your house, you disgraced me. But now you're worried I'm with another guy?"His fist met with the table in a loud bang. "Yes."I blinked,"what? Make it make sense, that you're free to cheat and I can't?""Are you? Is he your lover?""Of course not! You didn't care where I would be. And your own son, you...my credit card was blocked. I have nothing, Jaxon. And you slept comfo

Camila~ I couldn't play it cool anymore. "Well don't you know, trouble is my middle name," was all I could manage before I forced my way far from him to the opposite end of the kitchen. My heart was such an idiot to be racing like this on some flirt I just met yesterday! But Nico was handsome. He must have that effect on every woman, men too, who knows. "The sugar is up here," he was pointing upwards to the cabinet, "come and get it." I looked up and did a calculation in my head, "what? Do you think I'm that short?" Then bounced over. He moved away, ready to watch in amusement at how I'd embarrassed myself. The moment of truth was upon me. Standing on my toes, I reached upwards, stretching my hands as far as they could go and...Oh no, I am short. I mean, I knew that but, this short? I heard a faint chuckle from behind, "I would reach up to get it for you," he said, smiling, "but you can do that yourself, can you not? I'm rooting for you." Flashing me a wink, he smirked before le

Camila~ "Well, goodnight son," I was about to close the door when he called me back. "Dong worry, I've told Mike and the boys—" I gave it a second thought, "well, grown men, will behave. They just got into a headed argument, that's all." "No, not that." He said quietly. Looking at how serious his face was, I made a mental note to be calm and listen. "Okay honey, what is it?" I sat down next to him. "I'm supposed to resume school next two weeks. We're poor now. You've got to speak to dad." "Right," I knew what he was talking about. "You want me to kiss his ass..." He clicked his teeth,"he's your husband. You've been with him for so long. And you want some other woman to claim everything? Just because she says she's pregnant. For all we know, she may even just be lying." "I will give him a call," I stopped him right there. "Caleb, I know it's none of your business. But your dad hurt me. You need to understand that you're not the only one hurting here." "So? You'd just let your p

Camila~ He smiled, and his eyes actually lit up in excitement. God, I loved his eyes. I hoped I wasn't staring again. "Did I say something funny?" I just had to ask. His hand reached for mine, and he led me outside. The cold air sank into my skin, causing me to shiver. "It's cold," he said, his hand stretched forward as he... caught the cold? I didn't know what he was doing. "Yeah, I'm kinda cold, so can we wrap this up?" He nodded, then cleared his throat a little too loudly. "Yes, you are right. Okay, um, Camila Torres..." I blinked. How did he... But I was more furious. He was wearing a hoodie. Why couldn't he offer it to me? Bro hasn't seen a lot of romantic movies where they ask, "Are you cold?" and offer their jacket or something? This man before me just ignored my shivers and shaking like it was nothing! "Let's wrap it up," I said again, making my face hard. "Sure, sure. Okay, uh... you're the one I've been searching for all my life." He said it so calmly, like he was s

  • The Billionaire's Taste    7-Tastes Like We Need To Talk

Camila~ "I need you to be on your best behavior, Caleb." He was tall, nearly taller than me now, but I didn't let myself be intimidated by his height. He was still my son. I slapped his shoulder. "Hey, look at me, I'm talking to you!" Caleb lazily turned to face me. "I'm sorry, okay? But this is our reality right now." My voice was low as I tried to talk some sense into him. "You didn't have to leave Dad on such terms. Besides, he owes you alimony. You should have behaved so the money increases." "Behaved?" The word tasted bitter in my mouth no matter how I repeated it. "He cheated on me... he should have behaved." "He made a mistake. It's your job to forgive him. Think about me. Now you want me to suffer because of your foolish pride?" By this time, it felt like my blood was boiling. "You're not making any sense right now. Why am I arguing with a dumb fourteen-year-old child?" "You sure are very proud for someone who is now poor. Why drag me into this too?" Smacking my lips,

Third POV ~ Camila heaved a deep sigh. She was so glad for that flirt who had made her let out all her emotions. At least now, she’d found a solution—no matter how temporary it might be. She picked up her phone. “This is my last resort,” she reminded herself. Camila had lost his number ages ago. I mean, they were friends for some years, but that was it. Everyone moved on. “Please remember me, I beg you.” He had always been so nice to her. They’d reconnected even after high school, and he was still so sweet to her. “I’m sorry I lost your number again…” “But thanks to social media…” She had dug it up online. “Okay. Just answer my call the first time, hmm?” She swallowed what remained of her pride and dialed his number. No response. “Damn it!” “I’ve got no shame now, have I?” She dialed again. This time, his voice came through. “Hello? Hey, Camila! It’s been so long!” Oh, he sounds excited to hear from me. That’s good… Camila smiled, then confessed everything. “It’s Jaxon. He

Camila's POV I mean I had always suspected something strange was going on between them. Caleb even made assumptions! I...I just couldn't believe my doubts to be true. I didn't know how long I'd been waiting but finally, Jaxon came back. Blake was not with him. "You seem in a rush. How is she

Camila's POV "Me? Who's that?" I said, following her downstairs. "Her name was madam Vanessa." I did not hear her clearly. "I'm sure there's been some sort of mix up somewhere. Vanessa?" I shook my head. I wasn't buying this! I tried to keep myself, calming down. I always knew that Vanessa

Camila's POV I couldn't believe what had just happened. "Jaxon? I told you what happened, how can you still doubt me like this!" Savanah blinked, she knew her brother was taking her side. "Why will you lie like this, Camila? What did I ever do wrong?" "You--" anger filled me but I never spoke

The brownies were getting burnt! I could not just speak directly of course. But I had to do something. "Um, Savanah, they're getting burnt." I said to her in a gentle tone. She looked at me like I were something from the trash can, those big eyes bulged open."Who are you to tell me what to do? Yo
