~ LIANA ~

The silk curtains swayed as I stepped out of the boutique’s fitting room, wearing a pale pink dress that hugged every curve of my body. Stacey’s eyes lit up instantly when she saw me, her hands clapping together like an excited child.

“Liana, you look absolutely stunning! I swear, you’ll steal the entire show if you walk into Montgomery Group’s gala like that.”

We were at a luxurious boutique, searching for the perfect evening gown for the gala two nights from now. That night, I needed to look flawless—enchanting enough to capture every gaze, but most of all, his. Alistair’s.

It’s obvious he only pretends to be indifferent, hiding behind that foolish Isla as if she truly matters. But I know better. This is nothing but his pride. He wants to punish me for the past, to make me believe he’s moved on.

But I saw it in his eyes the moment we met again in his office—he still loves me.

And at the gala, I’ll make sure he remembers exactly why.

I gave Stacey a modest smile, tilting my

~ ISLA ~I don’t know how long I had been staring at myself in the big vanity mirror inside the walk-in closet. I had just finished my bath and was already wearing a silky slip dress.“Am I really going to wear this in front of him?” I muttered to myself. The deep, silky red nightie barely reached above my knees. Thin straps clung to my shoulders, and the neckline plunged low enough to expose more of my chest than I ever thought I’d show.Honestly, I hadn’t worn anything like this in my life. Staring at my reflection in the mirror, heat rushed to my cheeks—I felt ashamed, and almost like I was looking at a stranger. It had taken me nearly fifteen minutes to fumble through the wardrobe prepared for me, but I couldn’t find a single appropriate pair of pajamas. Instead, every hanger carried some sort of sexy nightie or lingerie. My cheeks burned hotter at the thought. Had Alistair ordered all of these? I never expected him to be this… daring.Oh my God. I would probably die from shame la

~ ALISTAIR ~It was already six in the evening when I arrived at the bar I had reserved for the meeting. Partygoers were already filling the entrance and the place was becoming too crowded, so I entered through the back door. This upscale club was one of my properties in New York, although I kept that private for discretion. And my men were scattered throughout the place for security whenever I was around. I was already settled in a private room intended only for my use. Evan stood near the corner, his posture straight and silent. Two of my guards flanked the trembling man slumped in the chair before me—the contractor responsible for the nearly failed billion-dollar project in L.A.His wrists were bound to the armrests with leather straps, his face pale and damp with sweat.I studied him for a moment before I started speaking.“I guess you already know why you’re here,” I declared. The man swallowed hard. “I… I didn’t mean—”“Don’t waste my time.” My voice dropped, quiet but sharp e

~ ALISTAIR ~The way she froze, wide-eyed and breathless, staring at the necklace as though it were some kind of impossible dream—it almost made me smirk. She really had no idea what kind of world she had just stepped into.My little innocent wife. Smirking. The thought carried a strange weight, heavier than I expected. The marriage certificate in my pocket was proof enough—Isla Bennett was no longer just a woman bound to me by contract. She was mine in name, mine in law.And soon, she would be mine in every way.I watched her fingers hover just above the blue diamond, trembling, not daring to touch it. She looked so fragile—almost breakable whenever she was flustered. But she could also be tough and determined whenever she stood her ground. And it was that same vulnerability and resolve that pulled at me in ways I couldn’t explain. Her lips parted hesitantly, eyes fixated on the necklace before darting back to me.“Do I… really have to go to this gala?” she asked softly, almost as if

~ ISLA ~We were already back in the car, and I didn’t much care where Alistair was taking me. My mind was still processing the marriage certificate I had held in my hands a while ago—too stunned to say a word.My fingers kept brushing against my empty palms, as if trying to convince myself that what had just happened was real.I am Mrs. Montgomery now.The thought alone was enough to make my stomach twist and turn.I threw Alistair a glance. He was focused on the road, looking so unbothered and calm—as if he hadn’t just tied me to him legally for life. Did he think marriage was just a game?Yes, I had finally broken free from my family’s manipulation. But now, I was bound to someone far scarier.“What’s with that sour look? Aren’t you happy that I’m your husband now?”His voice rang through the small space. The tone was low, but it made me shudder in my seat.My mouth twitched at his arrogant statement while I fidgeted with my fingers, forcing myself to meet his eyes.It was as if he

~ ISLA ~I finally wrapped up my rounds, but my head wasn’t clear at all. The scene from earlier clung to me like a shadow I couldn’t shake off. Elise’s trembling voice, Simon’s cold, cutting tone—it all kept replaying no matter how hard I tried to focus on my patients.“Abort it.”Those two words had been so sharp and final. How could someone say that so easily? Even if he didn’t want Elise, even if he hated her, what did the child do wrong?I couldn’t help but feel uneasy every time I remembered her tear-streaked face. I simply couldn’t believe Dr. Simon would ever do such a thing.I shook my head, forcing myself to push the thoughts aside. It wasn’t my place to interfere anyway. I didn’t belong in their mess.Just then, my phone buzzed in my pocket.Alistair: I’m outside. Come down.I sighed, staring at the screen for a moment longer. I was too busy thinking about other people’s lives when I couldn’t even sort out my own. My world was already tangled enough, and now Alistair was ty

~ ISLA ~I still couldn’t shake the dominant side of Alistair from last night out of my head. Up until this morning, the tension and uneasiness lingered—especially when he said, “Prepare your household registration.”He wasn’t joking. He never said anything he didn’t mean. Which meant… he was really going to marry me.The pen in my hand paused halfway through a chart. My mind refused to move forward. Thousands of questions flooded through me.Why would he do that? He could have let me go. He could have chosen Liana—she was the perfect match for him, wasn’t she? Beautiful, well-bred, the kind of woman who belonged by his side. And the woman he once loved deeply. So why me?After thinking hard, a horrible thought hit me.Unless… unless this was about revenge. Maybe marrying me was just another way to crush my sister. It made sense, didn’t it? I’d just be a convenient pawn.Dread shrouded me entirely. If I was thinking correctly, I may have just become another pawn—one far more ruthless
