Kieran's POV,

I was sitting in my study from the morning, waiting for the border report from the patrol team. After a while, Beta Dexter burst in with cold sweat beading on his brow. He was followed by a young border patrol warrior, his eyes wide with nerves.

“Alpha,” Dexter said in a sharp voice, “rogues were spotted by our patrol near the eastern ridge. Close to our territory.”

I straightened my back with a jolted move, my eyes narrowing dangerously. “How many?” I asked keeping my voice low, my hands balling into fists on the desk.

Dexter glanced at the warrior to report and the young man stepped forward, his voice shaking with nervousness.

“Three, Alpha,” he said, swallowing hard. “Skulking near the old oak grove, just past the stream. They didn’t cross the border but they were watching our border for a day.”

I pinned him down with my bloodshot stare, my wolf rumbling inside my mind. “Just watching?” I released a low growl. “Or any noticeable movement? Any tracks? Scents?”
