“So I guess I’ve to face him tonight,” I mumbled glancing at myself through the long mirror in my room.

Suddenly, a soft knock at the door startled me. Two maids entered the room carrying a bunch of clothes and flowers. Truthfully speaking, that was the last thing I had expected from Lord Elias tonight. After all, who sends gifts for a formal dinner invitation?”

“Miss Mira,” the older maid said in a warm voice, “we’re here to help you get ready for dinner. Please accept these gifts from Lord Elias.”

I quickly stole a glance in the mirror as my hands smoothed my simple gray gown. “I’m fine like this,” I politely refused them. “I really don’t need any gifts or dresses. You can take them back to him.”

The younger maid frowned, holding up a deep blue dress in front of me. “But your gown’s so simple,” she was almost pleading. “Just a little touch-up maybe? Trust me, you’d look lovely.”
