The room was too quiet.

Bliss stood by the window, the morning light painting long gold shadows across the floor. The script lay closed on the table, but its echoes were still loud in her head.

She could feel Damon behind her, silent…, waiting.

“You should’ve told me,” she said, voice low.

“I know.”

She turned to face him. Her eyes weren’t angry this time. Just… wounded. “You funded Ivana’s short film. You believed in her long before she broke. Before I broke. But you never once said a word.”

Damon’s shoulders rose and fell with a heavy breath. “Because that girl… she was burning out. I thought if I reminded you of her, you’d collapse all over again.”

“You think forgetting was healing?”

“I think you were trying to die on that stage,” he said, voice quiet but sharp. “And I wasn’t going to let that happen.”

Bliss looked at him, really looked. Beneath the strength and the control was someone just as terrified of losing her as she was of losing herself.

She didn’t move. The stick lay still on the counter. Two pink lines. No hesitation. No room for misreading. Just truth. Quiet, undeniable truth.Positive.Bliss stared at it like it was a foreign object, something fragile and explosive all at once. The seconds dragged into minutes. Her body didn’t shake. Her breath didn’t quicken. She just sat there, numb. Then, like waves breaking over a calm sea, the emotion came. She thought back to the weeks before, moments she’d ignored. The dizziness that came out of nowhere. The nausea she blamed on anxiety. The fatigue she thought was just the weight of memories pressing against her chest. She hadn’t seen it coming. Or maybe… deep down, she had.The lines stared back at her, like eyes she couldn't look away from.A child inside her.Hers and Damon’s.She held the test in her palm. It felt heavier than it should. She wanted to run. She wanted to scream. But mostly, she just wanted to feel safe. And she wasn’t sure she did anymore.Damon noticed

The house whispered at night. It wasn’t just the creaks of aging floors or the sighs of old pipes. It was something else…something older, woven into the walls. The mansion, like Bliss, held stories it had never told. She stood in the foyer, barefoot, clutching her notebook and a small flashlight. Her heart beat louder than her steps. The tape’s voice haunted her: “Look behind the red door.”She’d spent the entire day searching. Scanning floor plans. Asking innocent questions. Watching for Damon’s tells. The West Wing, the North stairwell, the library. Nothing. But then something clicked. When she first moved in, there had been one hallway she was told never to enter. The East Wing.Damon had said it was under renovation, unsafe. For years, she never questioned it.Now she did.Bliss made her way quietly through the East Wing’s dust-covered hallway, the air colder here, the silence heavier. She reached the old bookcase at the corridor’s end and pressed her hand against the edges.Nothi

The security cameras had been upgraded. Every door now clicked shut with a soft metallic hiss. Bliss couldn’t even reach for a glass of water without a quiet bodyguard stepping out from some invisible corner. Damon claimed it was all precaution. Necessary. But what happens when safety starts to feel like a cage?He hadn’t said much since the box was found on her bed. Just kept moving, ordering security, cancelling meetings, watching. And hiding something. She felt it.That night, she caught him in his study on a call. The door was cracked. His voice was low, intense.“I want everything traced. Every camera within five blocks of the set.”A pause.“No. She doesn’t know you’re involved. And I want it to stay that way.”Bliss moved back before he noticed her. She didn’t want to admit it, but paranoia had a scent and it was beginning to cling to everything.Later, when Damon stepped out to meet his head of security, she checked his phone. Just once. She told herself it was to ease her own

The studio’s main office was buzzing with quiet excitement. Cameras clicked in preparation, stylists moved between racks of designer clothes, and a production assistant whispered final notes into a headset. In the middle of it all stood Bliss, calm on the outside, but a storm inside. She had just signed the contract for the interview. A primetime exclusive to air the night before the movie’s red-carpet premiere. A personal tell-all. Her rebirth in the public eye.“Are you sure about this?” her publicist asked, eyeing her over a clipboard.“I need to be,” Bliss answered. When she returned home that evening, Damon was waiting. The expression on his face wasn’t anger. It was fear masquerading as frustration.“You went through with it,” he said.“Yes.”“You’re not ready.”Bliss dropped her bag on the counter. “And who gets to decide that? You?”“I know what this world does to people. Especially ones with secrets.”“I’m tired of secrets. Tired of shadows. I want to live my life, not just s

  • The Bride I Used to Be   Chapter 11: Ivana’s Last Performance

The edges of the script crumbled under Bliss’s fingers, still singed from fire. Her name or what used to be her name was scrawled in bold type across the cover: Ivana’s Last Performance. The title alone felt like a riddle left behind by a version of herself she no longer remembered. She stared at the script as if it could blink back at her.“What happened that night?” she asked, her voice small and rough.Damon stood behind her, his silhouette reflected in the cracked mirror across the room. The smoke-stained walls did little to soften the weight of his silence.“You collapsed onstage,” he finally said. “A full house…opening night. You froze during your final monologue, then tried to leave mid-scene. No one knew what was happening until the lights exploded. Then fire…panic…screams.”Bliss pressed the script to h
