The next day, Serena returned to her usual routine at the office. Telephones rang one after another, while the sound of keyboards clicking echoed throughout the workspace.

Serena sat at her desk, staring at her computer screen with tired eyes.

The stack of documents on her desk seemed endless. She rubbed her temples, trying to focus. Even though her thoughts repeatedly drifted to her mother's condition at the hospital, she forced herself to keep working.

She had to go to the hospital later. Earlier that morning, the hospital had contacted her and asked her to come in. There was something they needed to discuss regarding her mother's condition.

Although it was difficult to concentrate, Serena did her best to remain professional.

As soon as her workday ended, she quickly packed up her things and headed straight to the hospital.

That afternoon, the steady beeping of an ECG monitor filled the room. The scent of medicine and antiseptic stung Serena's nose every time she entered.

Lying in the hospital bed was a woman who had once been healthy and full of smiles. Now, her mother lay silent, asleep with a pale face and a frail body covered in tubes.

Serena pulled up a chair and sat beside the bed. She gently took her mother's cold hand in hers.

"Mom, Serena's here. I'm sorry I haven't visited much lately. I've had a lot going on. But you have to stay strong, okay? I promise I'll do whatever it takes to help you get better."

Her eyes immediately began to burn.

Ever since she was little, her mother had been the only person who was always there for her. But since her mother fell ill, everything had changed. Her father rarely showed any concern. He was always busy with his mistress, Claudia, who had now become her stepmother. He never seemed to have time when it came to Serena and her mother.

A knock sounded at the door. A middle-aged doctor entered, carrying a file in his hand.

"Miss Serena, may we talk for a moment?"

Serena nodded, releasing her mother's hand as she stood up. The two stepped out into the hallway.

"Your mother's condition has shown no improvement for quite some time," the doctor explained in a serious tone. "We've provided the best treatment possible here, but I'm afraid this hospital's facilities are no longer sufficient. She needs to be transferred to a larger hospital with more advanced equipment. Of course, the cost will be significantly higher."

Serena bit her lower lip.

"How much, Doctor?"

"For the initial stage alone, the expenses could reach hundreds of millions of rupiah. Our medical team is waiting for approval from the family so we can transfer her immediately and begin intensive treatment."

Serena fell silent.

The amount was far beyond her means. Her salary as an ordinary employee would never be enough to cover such a cost. Her only option was to ask her father.

But would her father be willing to pay even more?

"All right, Doctor. I'll discuss this with my father first," Serena finally replied.

Her voice nearly trembled, but she did her best to remain composed.

After saying goodbye, Serena left the hospital. Her mind felt overwhelmed.

What if her father refused?

What if her mother didn't get transferred in time?

Those frightening possibilities haunted her every step of the way.

During the drive home, she thought about how to bring up the matter with her father. Their relationship had been strained for years, and they hardly discussed even the smallest things anymore.

Still, no matter what, Serena had to fight for her mother.

When she arrived at the Collins family mansion, Serena stood outside her father's study. She was going to discuss her mother's medical expenses right now.

Before entering, she took a deep breath and knocked on the door.

"Come in," Richard Collins's firm voice called from inside.

Serena carefully opened the door.

She could smell cigarette smoke and alcohol. Her father sat behind his desk, busy signing documents with a serious expression. Serena walked closer, carefully choosing her words.

"Father," she greeted softly.

Richard looked up briefly.

"What is it, Serena? It's late. You should be resting."

Serena gripped the edge of her dress, hesitating for a moment before speaking.

"I just came from the hospital this afternoon. I visited Mom."

Richard stopped writing. He straightened his shoulders and leaned back in his chair.

"How is she?"

"There hasn't been any improvement, Father. The doctor said she needs to be transferred to a larger hospital with better equipment. Otherwise, her condition could become even worse."

Richard looked at Serena. His eyes were cold, yet calculating.

"How much will it cost?"

Serena lowered her gaze.

"It's a substantial amount, Father. I know it's a burden, but... it's for Mom."

Silence filled the room for a moment.

Richard tapped his fingers against the desk before answering flatly.

"Talk to Claudia. She manages all household matters. If she agrees, I have no objection."

Serena bit her lower lip, suppressing the frustration threatening to erupt.

Why did her father always leave important decisions regarding her mother to Claudia?

Hadn't her mother been Richard's lawful wife before Claudia came into their lives?

"All right, Father," Serena finally said, forcing herself to sound calm.

She lowered her head respectfully before leaving the room with her gaze fixed on the floor.

It didn't take long for Serena to find Claudia.

Her stepmother was lounging comfortably in her private sitting room, dressed in a burgundy silk gown. Her face carried the same arrogant smile as always.

Serena stood in the open doorway and knocked softly before entering.

"Stepmother," she called.

Claudia raised an eyebrow, her eyes sweeping over Serena from head to toe.

"What is it at this hour?"

Serena stared at the computer screen on her new desk, wearing a half-bitter, disbelieving smile. This room was so different from her old workplace. Everything was elegant and minimalist, with the scent of fresh flowers filling every corner. The chair was comfortable, the desk was spacious, and there was even a small plaque bearing her name.Serena Collins, Personal Assistant to Mr. Steave Alexander Whitmore. She let out a silent little laugh."Wonderful," she muttered. "From an ordinary management position to the CEO's personal assistant overnight. Good job, Serena."At least my salary will be higher too, right? She leaned back and looked around. The employees passing through the floor worked in silence and with discipline. No one dared to look at her for too long. Everyone seemed to choose silence, pretending not to know anything.Serena realized that Steave's presence was genuinely intimidating to most of the people here. Even hearing his name alone was enough to make them straighte

Serena kept her head down throughout the journey to the office. Honestly, she still felt dizzy and drained. Dealing with Steave and all his lust was not easy. If things continued like this, Serena was starting to think she should just run away. But what could she do? Her life and death were already bound by a contract with that man.As soon as she arrived at the office, Serena went straight to the department where she worked and sat at her desk, trying to appear normal in front of her colleagues. But before she could even turn on her computer, one of the HR staff called her name. "Serena, please come with me to the HR department."Silently, she followed the HR woman's steps toward the office bearing the Wellington Management Ltd logo, the name of the company where she had worked for nearly three years. As soon as she entered, two HR staff members were already sitting there. One gave her a stiff smile, while the other appeared to be preparing several documents on the desk. "Please have

The next morning, Serena slowly woke from a deep sleep. She blinked, trying to gather her senses. Something felt strange, different from usual. Stretching her body, she felt a faint soreness in her muscles. Then she opened her eyes fully and looked around. Her heart immediately began to race when she realized she was in a room she knew all too well. Steave's bedroom. A flood of memories crashed into her mind. She remembered falling asleep on the living room sofa while waiting for Steave, who never came home. She remembered feeling heated touches on her body, touches that had made her shiver with both fear and desire. Then it all came back clearly. She and Steave had been together again last night. Shame and guilt surged through her. She hated herself for giving in to Steave, for betraying herself. Serena climbed out of bed with mixed emotions churning inside her. Steave wasn't in the room. Perhaps he had already left for work, or perhaps he was somewhere else in the apart

“These belongings will be moved to Mr. Steave's apartment. We're only carrying out orders.”“What?” Serena could hardly believe what she had just heard. “Steave? He's the one who told you to do this?”“Yes, Miss. The order came directly from him.”“Why? Why are my things being taken there?” Serena protested, grabbing hold of her suitcase as one of the men attempted to lift it.The man answered briefly. “Mr. Steave wants you to live with him starting tonight.”Serena fell silent, her face growing hot with a mixture of anger and confusion.“He never said anything to me! You can't just walk in and...”“We're only carrying out orders, Miss.”The man dipped his head politely before returning to work.Serena stood frozen as all around her, her personal belongings, her clothes, books, even the small potted plant she had always cared for, were being carried away by strangers. She quickly dug through her bag, pulled out her phone, and called Steave. But no matter how many times she tried, the

Today, rain had been pouring relentlessly since morning. London shimmered beneath the rainfall, the droplets blending with the still-dazzling sunlight.Serena sat at her desk, staring at a computer screen filled with reports. Her job as an administrative assistant in the financial management department demanded a high level of precision.Every document that came in had to be reviewed, reported, and archived perfectly. But that morning, she felt completely unmotivated. She hadn't slept at all the night before because she had been watching over her mother, who was still in a coma at the hospital.“Serena Collins, please report to Miss Liana's office now,” the HR secretary said.Serena had expected it. Sooner or later, she knew she would be called in.She straightened her blazer, took a deep breath, and walked toward the large glass office at the end of the corridor. She knocked twice before a voice came from inside.“Come in.”As soon as the door opened, a middle-aged woman with a bob h

The room was quiet, too quiet, with only Serena and her mother, still lying unconscious in a coma. Then a soft click came from the door. Serena turned quickly. The door to the hospital room, which had been closed moments ago, was now slightly ajar. A shadow stood behind it. Serena froze. The door moved, opening wider. Before Serena could say anything, someone stepped inside with quick strides and gently closed the door behind him. Serena stared in surprise as the door opened. She thought Ethan had returned, but her movement halted the moment she saw who was standing there. Steave. He wore a black shirt that contrasted sharply with his skin. The sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, making the veins in his forearms stand out. His gaze was cold, sharp, and impossible to read. Serena immediately rose to her feet on instinct, her heart pounding wildly. “Mr. Steave...” Her voice trembled. Steave walked in without responding. His eyes swept over Serena's pale face before briefly
