A few days later, Serena was at the Collins family mansion for a family dinner.

That evening, the Collins residence seemed busier than usual. The lights lining the driveway were brightly lit. Her father typically only turned them on when welcoming important guests.

The first thing Serena noticed was the row of luxury cars neatly parked in front of the main entrance.

"Did someone important come over? Probably Father's business associates," she murmured.

As soon as the grand doors opened, Claudia, her stepmother, greeted her with a smile that felt painfully fake. It was so unnatural that Serena almost frowned.

"Serena, dear. You're finally home. Your father has been waiting for you," Claudia said gently, as if she were a loving mother.

Serena paused for a moment.

She almost wanted to laugh. Claudia rarely, if ever, greeted her like that.

Normally, the woman only spoke to her when necessary, often in a haughty tone that made Serena reluctant to respond.

"Yes, Mother," Serena replied briefly, trying to hide the suspicion lingering in her mind as she stepped inside.

In the living room, her father, Richard Collins, was engaged in a serious conversation with a man. Serena frowned when her gaze met the man's sharp eyes.

He had a commanding posture, a masculine face with a strong jawline, and a black suit that fit him perfectly. There was an aura of authority about him, along with a coldness that was impossible to ignore.

"Serena, come here," Richard called.

Serena walked over. Her father patted her shoulder proudly before introducing her.

"This is Steave Alexander Whitmore. He's my new business partner."

The moment Serena got a closer look at his face, her heartbeat quickened.

It was the man she had nearly run into in the hallway outside Ethan's apartment.

"Serena, Steave is also Ethan's uncle, your fiancé's uncle," her father continued.

Serena blinked.

Of course.

Whitmore.

The name immediately connected him to Ethan.

Swallowing hard, Serena tried to hide her surprise.

"It's a pleasure to meet you," Steave said. His voice was deep, steady, and calm.

Serena nodded politely.

"You too."

She tried to appear normal, though an uncomfortable feeling had begun creeping into her chest. This man's presence was completely unexpected, and her father had never mentioned him beforehand.

After a while, the family dinner ended with very little conversation. The long dining table, which had been filled with expensive dishes ranging from steak and cream soup to wine, had been cleared.

Richard soon retreated to his study to discuss unfinished business details. Claudia followed shortly after.

Meanwhile, Marissa was absorbed in her phone, busy texting someone.

Earlier, Serena had noticed the way Marissa flirted with Steave.

However, Steave had shown little interest.

As a result, Marissa seemed irritated.

Feeling suffocated by the atmosphere in the house, Serena decided to step outside. She walked into the side garden in search of fresh air.

Settling onto a bench, she wrapped her arms around herself and savored a brief moment of peace.

She let out a long breath and stared blankly at the night sky.

This house was certainly grand, but it had always felt foreign to her.

She had never truly felt at ease here.

"Something is bothering you, Miss?"

Serena jumped at the deep baritone voice near her ear. She quickly turned and found Steave sitting on a bench not far away. She had no idea how long he had been there.

The sleeves of his dress shirt were rolled up, revealing the muscles in his forearms. A freshly lit cigarette rested between his lips.

Serena immediately apologized to her father's important guest.

"I'm sorry, sir. I didn't know you were here," she said. "I won't disturb you."

She was about to turn away when his voice stopped her once again.

"No need."

Steave stood.

"This is your home. Why should you be the one leaving?" he said as he walked toward her.

More precisely, he walked past her as though he were about to leave.

Then suddenly, as if remembering something, Steave turned around and approached her again.

"If you ever need help, you can come to me," he said unexpectedly as he handed her a business card.

With a thousand questions running through her mind, Serena raised her hand and accepted it.

"Why?" she asked.

Without giving any answer, Steave simply walked away, leaving Serena's question hanging in the air.

The next morning, Serena slowly woke from a deep sleep. She blinked, trying to gather her senses. Something felt strange, different from usual. Stretching her body, she felt a faint soreness in her muscles. Then she opened her eyes fully and looked around. Her heart immediately began to race when she realized she was in a room she knew all too well. Steave's bedroom. A flood of memories crashed into her mind. She remembered falling asleep on the living room sofa while waiting for Steave, who never came home. She remembered feeling heated touches on her body, touches that had made her shiver with both fear and desire. Then it all came back clearly. She and Steave had been together again last night. Shame and guilt surged through her. She hated herself for giving in to Steave, for betraying herself. Serena climbed out of bed with mixed emotions churning inside her. Steave wasn't in the room. Perhaps he had already left for work, or perhaps he was somewhere else in the apart

“These belongings will be moved to Mr. Steave's apartment. We're only carrying out orders.”“What?” Serena could hardly believe what she had just heard. “Steave? He's the one who told you to do this?”“Yes, Miss. The order came directly from him.”“Why? Why are my things being taken there?” Serena protested, grabbing hold of her suitcase as one of the men attempted to lift it.The man answered briefly. “Mr. Steave wants you to live with him starting tonight.”Serena fell silent, her face growing hot with a mixture of anger and confusion.“He never said anything to me! You can't just walk in and...”“We're only carrying out orders, Miss.”The man dipped his head politely before returning to work.Serena stood frozen as all around her, her personal belongings, her clothes, books, even the small potted plant she had always cared for, were being carried away by strangers. She quickly dug through her bag, pulled out her phone, and called Steave. But no matter how many times she tried, the

Today, rain had been pouring relentlessly since morning. London shimmered beneath the rainfall, the droplets blending with the still-dazzling sunlight.Serena sat at her desk, staring at a computer screen filled with reports. Her job as an administrative assistant in the financial management department demanded a high level of precision.Every document that came in had to be reviewed, reported, and archived perfectly. But that morning, she felt completely unmotivated. She hadn't slept at all the night before because she had been watching over her mother, who was still in a coma at the hospital.“Serena Collins, please report to Miss Liana's office now,” the HR secretary said.Serena had expected it. Sooner or later, she knew she would be called in.She straightened her blazer, took a deep breath, and walked toward the large glass office at the end of the corridor. She knocked twice before a voice came from inside.“Come in.”As soon as the door opened, a middle-aged woman with a bob h

The room was quiet, too quiet, with only Serena and her mother, still lying unconscious in a coma. Then a soft click came from the door. Serena turned quickly. The door to the hospital room, which had been closed moments ago, was now slightly ajar. A shadow stood behind it. Serena froze. The door moved, opening wider. Before Serena could say anything, someone stepped inside with quick strides and gently closed the door behind him. Serena stared in surprise as the door opened. She thought Ethan had returned, but her movement halted the moment she saw who was standing there. Steave. He wore a black shirt that contrasted sharply with his skin. The sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, making the veins in his forearms stand out. His gaze was cold, sharp, and impossible to read. Serena immediately rose to her feet on instinct, her heart pounding wildly. “Mr. Steave...” Her voice trembled. Steave walked in without responding. His eyes swept over Serena's pale face before briefly

Steave sat behind his large office desk. Stacks of documents were piled neatly on one side, while his laptop screen displayed rows of financial reports. His fingers moved quickly across the keyboard, his expression unreadable.Today, his office felt quieter than usual. No voices drifted in from outside. Even the sound of his secretary's heels was rarely heard. There was only Steave and the endless workload battling for space in his mind.Just as he closed the last file, a knock sounded at the door.A cleaning staff member entered carrying a tray. On it sat a white lunch box and a steaming cup of coffee."Excuse me, sir," the man said politely. "This meal was sent for you."Steave looked up, slightly puzzled."I didn't order anything.""They said it's from Mrs. Viviane, sir," the man replied quickly before bowing and leaving. The name alone was enough to make Steave's jaw tighten. He stared coldly at the lunch box before reaching for the small note tucked beside it.I know you're busy,

The drive felt long, even though the distance itself wasn't far.Inside the car, Serena's mind was consumed by fear. She didn't know what was waiting for her at Steave's apartment tonight. She couldn't ignore the message. Her mother's treatment was entirely in that man's hands. When the car finally came to a stop, Serena gathered her courage. She stared up at the towering building, her chest tight with anxiety. She opened her phone one more time.Steave's message was still on the screen.Stepping out of the taxi, she walked toward the lobby entrance. The security guards recognized her immediately and allowed her inside. The elevator carried her to the top floor. Her heart pounded harder each time the number on the display changed. When the elevator doors opened, the hallway was silent and eerily calm.Paul was already standing outside the apartment door, his expression as professional and unreadable as ever.He gave a brief bow."Miss Serena. Sir has been waiting for you."Serena nodd
