Kieran stood there looking at the towering rides once more. The smell of sweet treats filled his nose. He took a deep breath hoping to cement the smells, the feeling, and the look of the place. This was his final time, he would be leaving this place. Not only was he fired, he lost nearly everything. A single tear rolled down his cheek. A decade he had given to her, and to the park. He had lost the trust of his best friend by being an unknowing accomplice to her attack. Instead of telling her what happened he went along with it for his own selfish wishes.Kieran heft the box higher in his arms. It contained everything he had accumulated during his tenure. Right on top was an award she had given him. "Worlds best Friend." The trophy seemed to mock him now. He turned forward to see the family car waiting for him. The driver opened the door
A few days had passed. Emma Jean had been released from the hospital. Kenji had stayed with her the entire time. Rowan came to visit her, to make sure she was alright. When she knew her, daughter was going to be fine she left immediately. Wanting to leave the new couple to their devices.Kenji wheeled her to the front of the hospital, Emma Jean grumbled the entire way. She pouted having to be pushed in a chair instead of walking. “Is this really necessary?”Kenji shrugged behind her back even though she couldn’t see it. “The nurse brought it so you have to use it. Clearly, everyone that is discharged is removed this way. So don’t pout.”“How can you see me pouting?”“I can’t. I can hear it in your voice. Your voice changes when you sound like you’re pouting. I’d like to see you pouting. I bet it’s cute.”“Only you can think seeing a pout would be cute. You are
Detective Hanson led her to a room. It was devoid of any warmth and color. There to the left was the two-way mirror and only two chairs. At the base of the feet were two half moons welded to the floor. Emma Jean naturally assumed this was to keep prisoners from harming themselves or their visitors. She looked to the detective. “Is this really necessary?”Kenji followed inside the room, leaning against a wall. He spoke before Detective Hanson spoke. “Yes, you don’t know how he will react to you.”Detective Hanson opened the door for another officer to bring in Kieran. “He’s right. We don’t know how either of them will react. It’s better to be safe than sorry.”She nodded her head in understanding. Kieran was just inside the doors now. He looked haggard and unclean. She held her hand up to her nose. A stench reached her before he even sat down. She glared at the detective. “You couldn’t let hi
Kieran twisted his lips in a bit of a pout. Even though she made her decision he loved her even more for it. “You really have grown.” He looked down. “Had you given me a chance, I would have held you back. Reluctantly, I have to admit that he is a better fit for you.”Kenji raised his eyebrows. He had no words to speak. Emma Jean lifted Kieran’s head up. “That’s what relationships should do. Help you grow, make you a better person. I know you’ll find someone like that. When you’re released, I’m going to need you to clean out your desk and never come back. I forgive you but I never want to see you again. Our friendship is over.”Those words shattered him; he knew once she had made up her mind there was no changing it. “Yeah, I wouldn’t want me around if they allowed someone to harm me. I’m glad you’re alright, though.” He looked to Detective Hanson. “I’m ready to
Emma Jean couldn’t stand it anymore, Shannon acted as if what she did wasn’t wrong. Her hand moved faster than her brain. She raised her hand and slapped her across the face. Her voice was loud and irate when she spoke. “HOW DARE YOU THINK YOU DID GOOD!! You should feel remorse or feel ashamed for what you did to me and for tricking Kieran. Have you no conscious? Or couth? You could have killed me. I’m all my mom has in this world now. You would have taken her last child away from her because you’re a deranged psychopath?”Kenji grabbed her and physically restrained her. Detective Hanson stood in front of Shannon to keep her from being hurt further. He sighed and wiped his hand down his face. Her lawyer was going to crucify them for this. The sounds that could be heard in the small room were Emma Jean’s panting and then the hearty laughter coming from behind him. He looked back and seen her bending forwards laughing her head off. The
Emma Jean wrapped her arms around his neck, opening her mouth to deepen their kiss. She moaned while pressing her body against him. The two of their tongues battled for supremacy, they were pilled out of their own little world when someone passed by with a whistle. They stared in each other’s eyes; Emma Jean spoke first. “Perhaps we should go ahead and tell mom. I’m sure she would be happy to know we’re a couple.”“More like, excited to know you listened and humbled yourself to being with me.”She pushed him away and scoffed. “Are you implying that I was a brat before? A snob?”He kissed her forehead. “Not at all, just a scared little woman that didn’t want to be happy.”“Says the man that wanted to destroy my father’s legacy.”“… Yeah, well we both had our hang ups and accepted each other.”“Yeah, we did. I’m happier now than before.
Rowan hated having to wait when she knew what a great couple they would be. “Fine, fine, now that you told me the news you can leave.”Emma Jean climbed over her mommy, trying to hug her. “Don’t be so cruel. You wanted us to be together. Mommy don’t send us away. Feed us.”“Girl, get off me. you’re not as little as you used to be. Shouldn’t you be going to his parents?” She snapped her fingers together. “You should just invite them over here and we can all get to know each other.”Kenji stepped in to stop her before she could get any further into that train of thought. “That wouldn’t be a great idea. That’s more like a wedding rehearsal sort of thing.”As if she were a child, Rowan squealed in delight. “You heard him, he indirectly asked you to marry him.”Emma Jean rubbed the back of her neck and sighed. “I don’t think he did tha
Now it was Kenji's turn to get her attention. He waved his hand in front of her face. When she didn’t respond he watched and waited for her to come to terms with what he had just said. It wasn’t going to be easy. Neither of them knew truly what Shannon was capable of.Emma Jean finally spoke to him. Her voice was shaky and uncertain. “W-what do we do?”“I don’t know. We don’t even know where she is, if she knows where you live or anything. All I know is you shouldn’t stay alone.”“Yeah, I can just get a hotel.”Kenji grabbed her hand. “I don’t think that would be safe. She could easily slip inside a hotel unnoticed and undetected. Haven’t you watched any crime shows?”“No.”“Well, if those writers or crazy people can come up with a way to get to the person they want so can she. Maybe she doesn’t know where you or your mom lives.&
Kenji didn’t want to get out the car but resigned himself to his fate. He unlocked the doors and got out. He was just about to go around the car to open Emma’s door when she opened the door herself. Kemari rushed over to take her hand. Normally he would be tongue tied but seeing her up close and in person made him feel bold. “If you want someone closer to your age how about giving me a chance?” He wiggled his eyebrows at her.Kenji didn’t like how close he was to her. He growled at his little brother. “Let go of her hand.”“Alright. Okay. No need to growl. What are you a dog?”Emma jean laughed at them. “Is this what it’s like to have siblings?”Kemari kissed her cheek and ran away. “It’s not. He’s just a jerk.”Kenji tried to grab him but only grabbed air. “I’ll get you. Just wait.”Emma jean leaned over grabbing his hand in her
