“Let her in,” Layla said calmly.

At her instruction, the assistant stepped aside and gestured for Gwen to enter the conference room. After a brief nod to Layla, she turned to leave and quietly closed the door behind her.

The spacious, sunlit room now held just the two of them.

Layla, in a surprisingly good mood, smiled warmly. “Sit wherever you like.”

“Thanks.”

Gwen pulled out a chair and sat down. She didn’t bother with small talk. “I thought a lot about it last night. I’ve decided to tell you everything that happened that night. Including… what I know about Xena.”

Layla’s interest piqued. “So she was involved?” she thought.

Gwen nodded and began to lay it all out.

She explained how she had accepted Xena’s invitation for an interview, only to later discover that Xena had seized the Xander family assets through underhanded means. Gwen had initially wanted to expose the truth but was eventually threatened into silence.
