Megan's POV

"Meg-gan, I am sorry," my husband mumbled in my ear as he tightened his arms around my waist, and I hated to smell his intoxicating scent since I knew I couldn't trust myself.

"Let me go, Ashton, and cut the crap; I know you weren't drunk; you better stop acting now," I said, and I could see a broad grin on his face.

I couldn't stop feeling worried when the street light illuminated his face, and I wanted to ask Ashton to come inside my parent's house since I could see the bruises on his face.

His left eye swelled, he had a cut on his mouth, and I could see blood on his undershirt. I don't need to ask him what happened to his pretty face since I knew he had a fight with Gael.

"Do you think I will let it slide? I am still angry with you and don't give me that puppy-eyed look because it will never help you change my mind. I don't want to see you." I growled as I tried to stop myself from feeling so weak.

I tried to contain my concern and focus on my irritation toward my husband, but I was more disappointed in myself since I couldn't resist his charm; it was so hard not to smile at him. My husband still looked damn hot, even if I could see the injuries on his face.

"Come on, Meg, don't let my father ruin what we have; just give me a chance to explain everything." He responded.

"We promised to be honest with each other after I gave you a second chance; I couldn't believe you would still lie to me," I stated, and his face fell.

"I didn't lie to you, Megan; I swear, it slipped from my mind since I don't intend to marry you because of my dad's condition. I married you because I am in love with you, Meg, and I couldn't imagine my life without you by my side." Ashton declared as he released me from his embrace.

"Do you think after what happened to us years ago, I will give my father another opportunity to manipulate my life? I almost lost you because of my dad; I will be a fool if I will listen to him." He added.

"Besides, I quit being the CEO of my father's company. I told him after I fought with Gael. I will email my resignation tomorrow." My husband continued.

"You did?" I asked, and he chuckled.

"Yeah, don't worry, I can still provide for

you and our son; I can work, and I am sure there are still companies who would be willing to hire me with reasonable compensation." My husband responded.

"Megan, it is past midnight; you better invite Ashton to get inside now, and you can talk inside your room." My father interjected our conversation before I could reply to Ashton.

"There is no way I will invite him to my room, dad; I am done talking to him," I said and turned my heels and got inside the house without taking a second glance at my husband, and before I could make it to the grand staircase, my father held my wrist.

"Megan, don't be the reason you will have a broken family. It would be best if you would not fight your husband; do you know this is when he needs you the most? His own father betrayed him, and you know it was all Gregory's plan, Meg." My father declared.

"Dad, if only he had been honest with me, none of this would happen," I responded.

"Well, maybe he had forgotten about that condition, and I am sure it would be favorable with him; he doesn't need to come after you. All he needs is an heir, and he doesn't need to marry you, Megan." My dad replied, and my face saddened.

"Yes, Gregory's condition was simple, to provide him an heir, and Ashton has a son; he loves you enough that he married you. Can you see it?" My father added.

"I don't think you have to push him away, Meg, Ashton's dad had all the money in the world, and he can take Axel away from you if he wants to, Gregory Pritzgold got connections, and he can make you the worst mother in front of your son's eyes." My dad continued, and I fell silent.

"You need to be with your husband so you can fight Gregory together, and I am sure he won't stop bothering you, but at least you have Ashton by your side. No matter how hard life could be, it would become lighter if you are with the person you love." He stated, and I felt so ashamed of what I had done.

"Dad, I can't go back in there and tell him I had forgiven him that easily; I don't want him to know I was wrong; please let him stay, dad, but I don't want to stay the night with him. I want to be alone with my son." I replied.

"You don't need to be embarrassed, my dear, in our lives, there will be times that we will make poor judgments, and sometimes we tend to listen only to what we believe in that we have forgotten the most important thing, and that is our loyalty to that person." My dad declared.

"You should go back to your room now, and I will take Ashton to the guest room." My father said in more than a whisper, and I felt glad Ashton didn't follow us inside.

"Dad, you have to promise me; you will never let him leave our household," I mumbled.

"If you don't want him to leave, why don't you bring him to your room? He is your husband, Megan." My dad said, and I looked at my father.

"I was hurt and humiliated, dad, and I know it wasn't his fault, but he was part of it, I want Ashton to realize he needed to consider how I feel, and that is why I am not giving him my forgiveness tonight.

"Oh, I don't know why girls are so complicated," my dad responded as he shook his head.

"Dad, girls are not complicated; I don't understand why men are fond of hurting women," I answered.

"Megan, in every relationship, there would be tests, and whatever kind of trials you must face, you have to deal with it with Ashton; you can't just run away from him. You are married to this man, for heaven's sake." My father declared.

"You need to take care of your husband, Megan, who is injured; you better get the first aid kit; I will take him to the guest room." My dad added with finality, and this was the first time I heard my father talk to me with authority like I was still in High School, and before I could respond to him, my dad had already left.

My steps were heavy as I made my way to the first aid kit cabinet, and I couldn't believe my dad would side with Ashton.

"Oh, my goodness!" I almost screamed when I saw a figure standing in the hallway leading to the kitchen and when I switched on the light, I realized it was my sister.

"Ava, what are you doing in the darkness? I thought you had already left, and why are you holding a bottle of wine?" I asked; when she raised her head, I realized she was crying.

"Hey, what is wrong?" I asked, and her tears fell as she drank the wine through the bottle, and I could tell something was going on.

"I left after Axel fell asleep, but I returned after I found my boyfriend with another woman in his place." My sister said in more than a whisper, and without saying another word, I took Ava in my arms.

"Shh, I am here, Ava," I whispered as I caressed her back.

"I hate him, Meg. I couldn't believe he would ask me to get out of his place; he chose his new woman over me." Ava said in between her sobs, and I could feel my sister's pain.

"You are so lucky, Meg, Ashton was begging for you to come out, and he was shouting how much he loves you all over our neighborhood. I was being driven away by my heartless boyfriend." My sister added.

I was silent, and I didn't know how to comfort my sister at the moment, knowing I had my own problems I needed to deal with, and I couldn't believe this was happening to my sister.

Ava is sweet, and I don't want my sister to experience the cruelty of deception.

"Ava, I don't know how to make you feel better because no words can take away the pain you are feeling right now, but you will be okay; I am here, and our entire family is here for you," I said.

"Thank you, Meg, I know you felt betrayed by Ashton, but he loved you, Meg; he will never come here and embarrass himself. If I were you, I would never leave him. Your husband is handsome and hot." My sister responded.

"And most important of all, he is in love with you." She added.

"Don't worry about me, Meg; I will be sleeping in my old room too; I will see you tomorrow. You better get the first aid kit, don't wait for our father to come." My sister continued, and she weakly smiled at me, and I knew she was only pretending she was fine; I know my sister; she could be a good actress too.

"Okay, see you tomorrow, Ava," I replied.

"Don't miss this opportunity, Megan," she stated, and I shyly smiled at Ava before I continued walking to the kitchen.

"What talk you so long, Megan?" My father asked, and I wondered where my husband went, and before I could ask my dad, Ashton got out of the bathroom with only a bath towel wrapped around his waist, and I swallowed my saliva as I looked at his bare chest.

I looked at my husband with wide eyes; my face blushed, and I could feel the butterflies swarming in my stomach as I found my husband looking at me with great intensity, and I lowered my head when I heard my father clear his throat.

I felt like jelly when Ashton walked closer to me, and I realized I would lose to my husband no matter how much I wanted to prove to him that I didn't want to do anything with him, and I hated that my heart was betraying me.
