Chapter 2. At The Palace

*Alpha Zero*

I did what I could as an ally to the Alpha King. I helped him get back to the palace when he was injured with an arrow from an unknown enemy. The warriors of the Royal pack says, it's one of the rogues. But I had a hunched it wasn't from them. It was someone who was already inside the Royal Pack territory. Perhaps a traitor from his own people, someone from the Royal pack.

The Alpha King was once betrayed and somehow, another traitor must have been lurking just inside his pack. His previous beta who had once plotted against him was caught by myself and was already resolved, but I had no doubt that there is more from them. I know as an Alpha King, he comes with many foes. And some of them he doesn't know, even with the help of his wizard. Because it is a common knowledge that witches are everywhere and their magic is unthinkable. But if they will come out in the open and challenge us in a fight, they have no matched against the Alphas of the world and our strong alliances.

Thinking about it makes me feel glad that I made an alliance to him.

The fight with the rogues has made the Alpha King's Beta to be severely  injured from the arrows made of silver. The King on the other hand who is immune to the silver weapons, had his wounds quickly healed. It was one of his traits that would have been nice if I had it in my blood too. But I don't envy him, I have my years of training in the Coldest Mountains of the North. And my strength as an Alpha is incredible enough to make all my enemies cower in fear.

My aid to the Royal Pack was reciprocated generously, now I am staying at his Palace as an important guest. And i stood in front of every wolves across the four regions as an Alpha who earned the Alpha King's unsolicited trust.

My thoughts were disturbed by a sudden knock on my door. With a faint familiar scent lingering in the air, i already knew who's behind it. I wonder why he's here.

"Come in!".

I replied while facing the door of the huge bedroom in the Palace of the Alpha King.

"A pleasant evening Alpha Zero, i am glad you are still awake."

I took a deep breath in as the Alpha King stepped inside the room, living the door widely opened. I noticed how his aura of confidence has invaded the entire place.

"Good evening Alpha King Jack, i am surprised it was you behind my door."

He pretended to roam his eyes around and stopped on a small table beside my bed. It had a bottle of whiskey on the top and two glasses. I raised my brow and offered him a drink.

"Care for a glass of whiskey?".

"Sure, that would be great."

I turned my back from him and poured some whiskey on both glass. When i faced him, he was already sitting at a couch on the other side of the room. He had his legs crossed elegantly in a formal gray pants paired with a navy blue shirt.

I would have been intimated with my attire, in just a faded blue jeans with my bare top. But i did not feel that way, strange maybe but ever since i earned the Alpha King's trust, we had our conversations with each other so casually. We are not friends but we share a mutual feeling of trusts.

"Thank you".  His gaze turned to me while accepting the other glass of whiskey from my hand. I choose to sat opposite of him and waited for the next thing that he's going to say.

"I have a favor to asked you Alpha Zero, and i am hoping you will take it. It is not a very crucial matter. But I don't find any other Alpha that is fit to do the task."

"Hmm,..sounds tough, but tell me and I won't hesitate if it is about the safety of our packs."

King Alpha Jack cleared his throat and took one gulp at the whiskey in his glass.

"It is about my sister..the Princess of the Royal Pack. She had been making me worried ever since..our parents passed away. Her often escapades to the human world had me thinking about the rogues in the cities. I know some of them are just hiding in their human form".

I nod my head and tried to scroll back my memory to see if an image of his sister registers. But I could only remember a teenage girl wearing a dress, how could she be wandering at the far cities alone?

"Simple, do you need to lend some of my best warriors to be her personal bodyguard in the city? They will surely keep her safe and swore with their life that your sister will never get a scratch from the rogues".

I leaned my back on the comfort of the couch and drank everything in my whiskey glass. If it was that simple, why did the King has to come all the way to my room and talked to me alone. I furrowed my brows and looked at him straight. His gaze is now at the door which is still open wide.

"It's not as easy as that Alpha Zero, I needed Princess Jasmin to learn how to fight and defend herself at all times. I want her wolf to hunt every now and then and experience the life of the wolves outside the palace. One that you my friend..will teach her".

"What!?

I slammed the whiskey glass in front of me but not strong enough for it to break. It created a loud noise that will have some of my pack warriors flinched. But the Alpha King just returned my gaze seriously.

"Are you asking me to baby sit your teenage sister? I mean to baby sit a Princess?...Do forgive me Alpha King, but I think you had a wrong choice of Alpha this time".

"Not just you Alpha Zero, I want your female warriors help. You see, i don’t trust my sister to follow my command. She will always find a way to escape, but I don’t think she can escape from you. That is if you accept to train her and keep her safe. And one of your female warriors has agreed, I’ve talked to her. Her name is Ayah”.

"Damn Ayah!, what does she have to do with this?

Now I had my doubts. Ayah is not just a good female warrior of my pack, but she is one good powerful witch. I never gave a complete trust with her, knowing she always asks for something in return.

"Well, it was good to have a strong female warriors as well. You, alpha Zero has she wolves that are as strong as the male warriors and that is remarkable.”

I sighed and had myself another glass. What could I teach a stubborn Royal Princess wolf? I am sure she will disobey him. Having no siblings of my own, I could not relate to the Alpha King. But I couldn't refuse if he needed my helped.

"I am not sure if i could properly teach a Princess wolf with the ways of the wild. Although to let her have the training of self defense is an easy task. But does she agree to this whole arrangement?

"She will agree, I am doing this for her! I cannot have her relying on the Royal Pack warriors everytime. She needed to grow up and maybe one day she will find his mate, this is a good start for her."

I arched my brow at the thought of the Alpha King's sister finding her mate. If she is at that age then she really should be learning to fight for her own. I am not opposed with other wolves believing in the Mate's bond but that is not just a thing for me.

"So when do you plan on sending her with me?".

I asked while noticing the bright hint of amusement in the Alpha King's face. He is glad that I have accepted the task, but only the Moon Goddess knows if I'll have enough patience to teach the brat.

"You don't have to personally do it Alpha Zero, you can have your female warriors to look after her and teach her everything. I just want you to swear for her safety at you place".

There was meaning in the Alpha King's words, I knew it! He never completely trusts the other Alphas with her sister's life, the way he trusted me. He knew I would not harm her and I never had the slightest interest to get his throne. If I had, I would have attacked him when he was injured with the rogues. That time when both him and his Beta is vulnerable against the enemy of the pack.

I couldn't help but wonder, what could have happened that day if I wasn't there. If my warriors are not there to help the Royal Pack, could they have survived their injuries and return to their Palace safe?

I shook my head from my morbid thoughts.
