When I regained consciousness, I saw my mother crying.

Once she noticed that I was awake, she quickly wiped her tears away, held my hand, and asked worriedly, “How do you feel, Luna?”

I did not cry when I learned that Winnie was pregnant with Jake’s baby, nor did I cry when I felt the life within me slowly fade away as I lay on the cold operating table, but when I saw the sympathy on my mother’s face, I could no longer hold my grief back. I bawled.

My mother immediately held me with great pity. As she patted my back, her voice was filled with distress. “I didn’t know that you suffered so much. I’m sorry I was so late. When you get discharged, divorce Jake. You’re not some doormat he can walk all over!”

I nodded and cried as hard as I wanted in my mother’s arms.

When my father came, I had already composed myself.

Even so, he still patted my cheek with sympathy in his eyes. “You’ve gone through a lot, Luna. I really shouldn’t have let you marry Jake.”
