.Brielle’s POV
Terrified by the big reveal, I cowered on the ground like a child. “Stand up! What sorcery did you use on me?” Alpha Lucien asked angrily. “What? I didn't do anything.” I panicked as fear began messing with my mind. The clueless alpha looked confused as he began muttering to himself. “Lucien! Is this real? Are you sure it's real?” Zane asked also in disbelief by what had just occurred. “Would I lie about such a thing? I felt it, I smelled it, sensed it!”Lucien exclaimed. “That means... she is your second mate,” Zane pointed out with his jaw dropped. "The universe can just laugh at us! Here I am, seeking mine and you just got a second chance," “How is that even possible?” I looked at both brothers cluelessly as I tried to make sense of what was going on. “We can't take her back to Chase, Lucien.” Zane voiced after being mute for a while. “Chase would kill her and you know that for sure.” He added as he walked up to his brother who had his hands over his face. “ If we don't take her back and Chase finds out, it's going to be an all-out war.” Lucien pointed out as he looked at me with a fierce gaze. “Besides, we don't know her. We can't sacrifice the safety of our people for her.” He added with a frustrated voice. “You can't abandon your mate Lucien! It's not our way!” Zane exclaimed furiously at his brother. “She is not my mate!” Alpha Lucien yelled back. “I had my turn and now it's over. My real mate is gone and I don't know what or who that is but she is not my mate.” He stated, pacing back and forth. “How do you explain what you felt? The moon goddess doesn't make mistakes Lucien. Think logically,” Zane protested. But his brother's mind was shattered by the new revelation. I stared at both of them confused by what they were going on about. “Brielle? Say something!” Zane asked me. I tried speaking up, but my body was too shaky to respond. “Look at her! She has been through a lot already. You can vividly see the way she is shaken, Lucien. She is as oblivious about it as we are.” Zane pointed out. The worst fear I had then, was being taken back to Chase. After learning his ex-wife killed herself from depression, I knew mine wouldn't be difficult to decide. Especially when I was being brought in by his worst enemy. “Please! Don't let me go back there.” I cried out of desperation. “We have so many unanswered questions, If you let her go, those questions would remain unanswered.” Zane voiced. I felt a flicker of hope since the Wolf Prince was by my side. “She comes with us but you are responsible for her. Everything she does wrong falls on you. Are we clear?” Alpha Lucien finally responded. “Yes, I agree to that,” Zane said to his brother. The wolf prince just threw himself in the court to save my head. “Let's move out before sunset in case there are any more mountain beats roaming around the woods.” Alpha Lucien commanded as he walked away into the woods. “Don't worry, he is going to clear his head. My brother is slow to anger but difficult to restrain when angry.” Zane said as he unlocked my chains. “Why are you helping me?” I asked because I was getting confused by his actions. “You are a mystery and I don't like leaving my mystery unsolved,” He replied with a smirk. "That might be a problem because I have no idea how to solve the mystery as well," “It's okay. It just sn't possible and it had never been heard of. All creatures of the moon had been blessed with one partner, the mate.” He explained. “My brother already had a mate and they were both in love. So, you coming into the picture messes with the knowledge we had grown with.” He concluded. “It's time to go!” Lucien ordered from behind a tree. I walked behind both brothers as we headed to their packland. My legs began to tremble as the distance was becoming too much for me and I hadn't eaten in two days. “Are you okay?” Zane, who turned around to check on me, asked. “Yeah, it's just that my feet are getting numb,” I complained to him as I rested my back on a tree trunk. “The snake bite plus you haven't eaten after losing a lot of blood is more than enough reason for it to.” He responded as he took a look at the leg. Lucien rolled his eyes at his as he examined my condition. “We need to go, Zane!” He yelled at his brother who paid no attention to him. “You shouldn't put any more strain on the leg,” Zane stated after taking a look at it. “Well she has to work, doesn't she?Or what do you want us to do? Carry her on our backs like horses?” “Yeah, that's exactly what I'm going to do,” Zane answered firmly. He pulled me closer and swept me by feet, placing me over his broad back. “It's not going to be comfortable but try to relax.” He whispered as I laid my head comfortably on him. Unlike his brother, he seemed to be concerned about me. We walked for a mile before the Pack City began coming into sight. “Welcome to Eclipse, Luna Brielle,” Zane stated as I was already wowed by the City's beauty. “Let's wash up first. People will ask questions if we turn up like this,” Lucien recommended. We went to a stream nearby and I was asked to wash up all the smuck I had gathered from our journey. I was in the opposite direction from where the brothers were for privacy. I took my time as the water felt so refreshing on my skin. I turned around to leave when I bumped into something hard. “Damn it!” I cussed without looking at who it was. “And she is also strong,” I heard Lucien's voice remark. I raised my head to see the Alpha shirtless and wet. “You might have my brother wrapped around your silly little games but I will get to the root of this” He threatened as he drew closer to me. I could feel his breath on my face by how close he was to me. “I mean you no harm,” I answered with head bowed because I couldn't keep up with his intimidating stares. “Are you sure about that,” He remarked, tilting my bowed head upward to face his gaze. I noticed how he stared at me unmoving, not taking his eyes off me as he asked; “Are you nervous ?” His demeanor intimidated me, but didn’t stop me from talking anyway, “For starters, I’d like to apologize for bringing back difficult memories. It was never my intention to.” His unflinching state made me quite uncomfortable, but I continued anyway, “And I am not a magic user as you might think, in fact, I only seek to escape the man who wants me dead,” I stopped to pause to check if he was still listening, and when I saw that he was, I continued; “I would lay low and when I had gathered my st—” My sentence was cut off abruptly when his loud laugh resonated across the large expanse of his woods. “Because you think you are my mate doesn't make you anything to me ?” He said in a voice laced with mockery. “No.” I answered firmly, “That’s why I'm begging for your help.” “And you think I’d waltz into some personal issues you have with someone simply because of some stupid mate bond?” He asked, staring intently at me. “What worth are you of to me? Why would I jeopardize my folks for you?" “Sir that isn’t what I meant,” I stated with hot tears beginning to blur my vision. “I was only asking for help because I f—” “I didn’t allow you to come with us just so you can bug me with your problems Brielle!” He snapped, cutting me off. “Why don’t you just reject me?” I asked, my voice breaking in despair. “Why don’t you just reject me and send me back to Chase?” I let the tears fall freely from my eyes as I spoke. I couldn’t hold it in anymore, the drama, the frustration, they were all at their apex. Just when I was about to turn away, I felt his hand snake around my wrist, stopping me in my tracks. I looked up at him, probably to find remorse in his fierce red eyes, but instead, I was met with an emptiness. It looked like a grey sea with nothing in it. “I’m sorry for ever asking for your help,” I muttered ready to pull away, but stopped abruptly when his warm full lips enveloped mine. I felt a strange surge of pleasure run up my back at the feel of his lips against mine. It felt like heaven. My own personal Heaven…Brielle's POV “Walk out with me slowly,” He whispered, hoarsely. “Don't try anything smart with me girl,I'm not in the mood,” “Kidnapping? Again, really?” I voiced to myself as I walked beside him to the exit. He looked baffled, uncomfortably on edge as he stood close to me. “Yo, kitten!” Zane's voice erupted behind me. “Where do you think you are going? We need to get back inside, brainstorming and all,” “Be natural,” Romero muttered quietly. I turned to see a concerned expression on Zane's face as he held onto the wound by his side. He really looked beat and with Romero history with substances, I knew he would kill Zane out of desperation. That wasn't an outcome I can live with. “I just wanted some air, that's all,” I replied to him with a smile. Romero walked ahead a few paces, far enough to avoid suspicion but close enough to act. “The last time you needed air, you got kidnapped. That's not happening, get back in the room,” He shot back. “Please, Zane,” I said softly, l
Brielle's POV We headed out to the hospital to check on Angelina and also to do a thorough checkup on Zane. “Are we safe here?” I asked as we stepped in through the front entrance. “We are not really safe anywhere, kitten,” Zane responded instantaneously. My heart leapt when he spoke, majorly because of the word he said at the end. “Kitten?” I muttered with a soft laugh as I folded my hair behind my ear.“Sorry, old habit,” He smiled at me for the first time in a long time. “Okayy,” Lucien sputtered as he laid Zane on the ward bed. “A doctor will be here to examine you. I'm going ahead to Angelina’s. You too clear have to flames to fan,” “Flames to fan?” I reacted with a confused look. “Goodluck!” He shot back loudly as he exited the room, leaving me alone with Zane. We stared at each other for a while, quietly reading the room and anticipating who was to go first. “I …“Jus…” We both uttered at the same time. The confusion caused us to laugh lightly, reducing the tension i
Lucien’s POV. I kicked the hospital doors open with my shoulder with the detectives hurrying in behind me.. Angelina was almost weightless in my arms, and her body cold and damp with her blood, a lot of it which had drenched up my shirt. Panic shot through me as i quickly laid her on the available stretcher. “Silver blade!” I blurted as one of the nurses came running up to me. “She has a deep stab wound to the stomach. She has lost too much blood, and she’s still—” “Sir, this way!” One of them urged. “We’ve got it.” Her fingers still barely clutched my shirt. Her lips were pale, cracked, and her face had gone cold. “I’ll stay with her.” I said, moving forward with them as they took her in, writing things down. “Please sir.” A nurse said, blocking my way. “We need space to take care of her. We promise to do everything we can.” I hesitated. “If she dies—” “She won’t die, but right now she’s in a tough spot. She needs every second now. It appears that she was ass
Lucien's POV.The body reeked of death and the air was chilly to the bones. From the scent and marks on the body, I could tell this one was different. His death took much time and precision, he was killed slowly. I stood beside Detective Rhea at the long table in the cold mortuary wing of the pack's police department, looking down at the newest victim. Another high-ranking wolf taken down like a prey. "This one is different from the rest of the murders." She said. I moved closer to it. The young male's body was a mess, his hands were purple, and had fingers that were crooked and swollen. "What's different about him?" I asked."Something about him must have made our killer take his time," "His fingernails were pulled out." Rhea said, voice low, almost mechanical. "One by one." I looked at the body, frowning."The killer is getting bold because this takes guts," "He was strangled after that, and there are tight ligature marks on the neck. Something strong and thin, pro
Brielle’s POV. Zane was still unconscious. He hadn’t moved, not even twitched or anything. breathing was shallow, and his skin was cold despite the thick blankets wrapped around him and the care he was receiving. I sat by his bedside, my hands trembling as I reached for his. I couldn’t bring myself to touch him at first, not because I didn’t want to, but because I was scared he’d disappear the very moment I did. “Zane.” I whispered, my voice cracking. “I’m so sorry.” Still, no response. Just the silence between us as the healers left. Lucien stood by the window, arms crossed, and he looked ready to kill. He hadn’t spoken in a while, not since they dragged Zane in and dumped the sack of heads on the floor. It was a disgusting sight. Those people had been fathers and husbands, and their lives had been ended so cruelly. “Lucien…” I finally spoke, barely able to meet his eyes. “Let me go back.” He turned slightly but said nothing. “I mean it.” I said louder this time. “Let
Zane's POV. The sorching pain woke me from the drowning darkness of my unconscious. I could feel my blood fighting the silver which was burning through my veins. I opened my eyes. Darkness, and then light. I blinked again, and the light settled. I was strapped to a chair. My arms were tied behind my back and my legs to each sides of the chair. I could feel something thugging my stomach, the sharp pain was endless. I took a look to see the knife still in me. Across from me, sprawled out on a wide, gold-accented bed with satin sheets, was Chase, and he wasn't alone. Dana, the girl I was with, laid on him. The same Dana who had said she only did what she had to do to survive. She was on top of him, naked, and riding him like he was her carriage to bliss. Her back was arched, and her soft moans floated around in the room while her hands dug into his chest. His hands gripped her waist tight, moving her on him with slow, lazy confidence like he owned her. My stomach turned. I k
