I swirled on the bed only to be blessed with a sight that made my heart race and fall into my stomach. “Damn!” I mouthed quietly. The room was so scattered, and I blinked to have a clear vision of everything while breathing heavily. Beside me was a man—he was still asleep. He laid on the other side of the bed with his face turned away. I quickly pulled the duvet off my body only to find out I was naked. My clothes and undies were littered in every part of the room. My mouth fell open in shock. “Oh no!” I quietly gasped because I was so ashamed of myself. I covered my face with my palms because I felt like I was such an empty brain. It reminded me of twelve hours ago… After having a big relapse at work, I got a short gig. Being an event planner was always my dream, but I had no idea how tough it could get. It was my first client in six months! I decided to do something different, and all the roads led to the clubhouse downtown. It was a good way to do something new to feel better. I mean, that's what they say alcohol does. I guess I also didn't know alcohol would get me in a man's bed! I turned to look at the man who was so deep in sleep. All I could see was the tattoo on his arm. It was not easy to understand, but I could see a beautifully crafted pattern with the letters ‘A’ and ‘B’. Before thinking about what happened last night, I quickly grabbed my clothes to dress up. For some reason, I didn't want him to wake up to find me there. I couldn't find anything to carry, and when I checked my account to order an Uber ride, I realized I squandered most of the payment I got at the club last night. “Bella, you've messed up!” I whispered to myself. As I was about to open the door, the man woke up. “Why are you gone so soon? " I had a good night with you…” his broad voice made goosebumps raid my body. It was a good mix of pleasure and disgust! It made me remember some parts of last night. The sound of him moaning into my ears while thrusting deeply in me. He pulled my hands up over my head, and caressed my body while driving me nuts. At the thought of that, I opened the door and stepped out without saying a word. I didn't have the courage to face the man I slept with at the clubhouse. I was so pissed that the money I had planned for other things was squandered on things I would regret. Nothing still changed after going to the club and waking up in a hotel room. My business was on the verge of crumbling and the loans were in my neck. I mean, my father was trying his best to settle all of that. I frantically refused to think about the consequences of what just happened. I stood outside the hotel waiting for a taxi, but it was so difficult to find one. It felt like everything was going south. I was extremely confident about how my day was going to be. Just at that thought, my phone beeped in my bag, and at that same moment, I could see an empty taxi from a distance. I waved my hands across the road while trying to get my phone from my bag with the other hand. “Damn!” I whispered softly. Whoever was calling should have no idea where I was, or where I was last night. Before now, my deepest secret was putting on my mother's clothes. Her underwear was inclusive. I fantasized about growing up, but now I'm all grown up, I don't have her in existence. “Hello, Valerie,” I smoothly called out as I hopped into the taxi. The pearls of sweat broke, and ran down my face as I smiled—I thought it was my best friend. “Hello, ma’am!” The voice was official and straightforward. It sounded like nothing familiar. “Yes, who am I speaking with?” my breaths hitched as I paid so much attention to knowing who was calling. My heart was pounding— a good mix of excitement and fear. Was it a new gig? A job to make up for all the money I spent last night. This is the Hills General Hospital, and we are calling to let you know of the current state of your Father. He has been admitted…” The call was aborted, and my hands quivered in shock. I was numb for a moment, trying to understand what was going on. “Driver! Driver! Please, I need to go to the Hills General Hospital now. Please,” I panicked, and the driver nodded, changing his route. He was fast enough, and there was no need to tell him so. I tried calling the number over and over again, but my efforts were aborted because it did not go through. Endless thoughts came to my head, but I decided to hold my faith up high because I knew my Dad was a hero—Nothing was going to happen to him. Less than ten minutes later, I ran into the hospital. I could feel each side stride on my bones. I ran down till I couldn't breathe. “Please, I'm Bella Anderson, the only child of Leo Anderson. He was admitted,” I struggled to catch my breath as I spoke. The lady checked the system, and she looked up to me in so much concern, “Ward 3, Room 306!” Without saying thank you, I ran to the closest corridor while looking at the number on each door. “128?” I whispered, then I moved to the escalator. My anxiety was going to make my brain burst. When I got to the escalator, it was full. “Shit! I need to take the stairs!” I was mortified. I ran towards the stairs. I jumped on the stairs as fast as I could. It had been forty minutes since I got the call. I still can't explain how time ran that quickly, but I had to know what was wrong. When I got to the floor where room 306 was, I ran with everything in me just to find it closed. I couldn't see what was going on inside. I tried opening the door, and the force of opening it pushed me into the room. There was my helpless father, laying on the hospital bed. How did he get here? What was wrong? “Father! I'm here, father. Nothing in this world is going to happen to you!” I wailed, moving towards the hospital bed. The nurses and doctors were gathered around him. “Give him space to breathe!” I called them out, and they stood still watching me without saying a word. “We're sorry, ma’am,” the doctor apologized, and I saw the nurse pull the white cloth over my father's face. “He's not breathing anymore!” He added, and I felt like the world stopped. The world had to be rotating, because I couldn't feel my legs. I saw myself falling, but I couldn't help myself. I had nothing left—only the shattered pieces of myself which were about to be melted by pain. Where was I ? What was wrong with my father? “No, no. My father is my hero, he can't stop breathing…” I muttered, before shutting my eyes on the floor.BellaThe Bracelet sat on the desk between us like a confession neither of us was brave enough to finish. The doctor checked me up and recommended that I avoid stress at all costs. I literally fainted. I backed out without any warning. What was Lucas doing? The things he did were already enough. Later that evening, Alex finally summoned Lucas to the mansion. They spoke so casually, almost like they already knew themselves. “He's coming and I'm going to set things straight," he added after the call ended. “What's that going to do? As much as you don't want to believe what I'm telling you, I wonder what you're going to do when Lucas finally tells you the truth." I understood. Alex picked it up the way a man might lift something that could still burn. His fingers closed around the thin metal with a care I had never seen from him. It was not with documents, not with glasses, not even with me. He turned it over once, twice, watching the light catch the small engraved edge. The roo
BellaI wanted to be so lackadaisable about what was going on, but my baby kicked. I wanted to give him a hard slap on his face for being so nonchalant all along. I wanted to push him away and warn him subtly to never treat me the way he always did. But the shadow never stopped coming closer—The one moment I was always looking out for was coming to an abrupt end. I didn't know what to do about it. “Sir! Mr. Blackwood! I'm so sorry to interrupt, but there's a man at the entrance of the gate. He demands to see you urgently," the security man panted. It was obvious he was running, big when he got up here and saw us, he gave us a bit of time. "Why have you decided to come now?” Alex rudely retorted. It almost felt like he was enjoying the moment as well. He acted off like, you have always had me in your mansion. Why are you deliberate on acting differently tonight?Because I saved his reputation?I moved away and stared at the security man as he walked out. Either way, I never sto
Bella This marriage was a business transaction. I didn't want to feel anything or plan to walk out of this chapter like it was something I badly wanted The four corners of the room had three different souls who knew exactly what they were doing. Alex, Valerie and myself carried the weight of the news in the air. It was so difficult to breathe because regardless of the fact that it concerned them, it was myself and Ethan in that photo. It wasn't any of them. We were the ones bearing the cross heavily. Silence sang out loud, so loud that I could hear my heart pound so deeply in my chest. My breaths went deeper as I tried to inhale, and the fake attention I was getting from Valerie—Nothing made sense. Was it all planned?“Are we just going to remain quiet?" Alex broke the silence. “What do you even mean? I have been waiting for Bella to say something…" Valerie cut in. Truly, she didn't change. Her opinion wasn't needed and it would have been better if she didn't say a word. I w
Bella The worst betrayals in my life had always worn a familiar face. I should have been better at recognizing them by now.I got from my bed feeling a bit musty and moody, little did I know that there was a bomb right by my side. My phone kept beeping over and over. My heart raced as I overheard a loud noise on the door. It sounded like the person had been there for hours. I left my phone first and went on for who could be at the door. It felt like I had made the wrong decision, but there was no other way to clear off the air of fear.“Who took these pictures? What's all of this? How dare you want to ruin every single thing that I have toiled to build?” The rage I got from my dearest contract husband left me standing still in my night robes, big eye bags and a face of disgust for something I had no idea about. “Can you at least have a proper communication with me? You are shouting, you are raging and I'm not getting anything from you," I replied out of disgust. "You know it's
Bella He appeared at the edge of the charity luncheon like an afterthought. The type someone must have planned quietly and very carefully. I had learned that by then nothing in Alex Blackwood’s mansion was an accident. Nothing was an accident. Everything was quietly planned and looked at. After all the chaos, I was here properly dressed in the most luxurious gowns and jewelry from his brand and going solo at a women's in business luncheon. He made me a Blackwood Foundation representative. It was awkward that I wasn't here with him. He would have buried his eyes on me. He would have wanted to watch my every move. Tonight was totally…totally different. I was as free as a bird. No one was going to control where I was going and what I had to do. I could freely engage with anyone without feeling any sort of remorse. I wouldn't have to feel indebted at any point. It was such a glorious feeling, with no perfect description. Everyone sat on the Champaign table. I lingered with my thou
BellaThere was no yelling because the quieter he got, the more everything shook. He called me into the study the next morning with nothing more than my name spoken once from the doorway. No raised voice. No explanation. Just the single word and the expectation that I would follow. I did. The room was already stripped of pretense. The curtains were half-drawn, desk cleared except for a single photograph lying face-up in the center. The day I walked through those glass doors alone. He said nothing. He simply stood on the other side of the desk and waited.I understood the shape of the silence. The choice to speak was being offered to me, but the choice about whether I spoke had already been made by circumstance. The photograph had done that work. My hands found the edge of the desk and held on.“I’m pregnant.”The words left my mouth without the apology I had rehearsed in the dark. I did not soften them. I did not look away.“I kept it from you because of the contract. The clause that
BellaAlex's world was full of men who smiled with their teeth and watched you with their eyes. After receiving the large sum of money, I realized that truly, I was nothing more than a pet in the eyes of Alex. I had to do everything he told me to. I acted only in the way he needed me to act. I was
Bella“Aren’t you ashamed? You don’t even care about the fact that I’m her best friend!” I wailed angrily. Deep down, all I need was a better route to escape my problems. The offer was indeed golden, but why did it have to come from him? Why did he have to be the one to ask for such a delusional f
Bella. My throat was sore, and my chest ached badly because I cried all night. I got up to get ready for another chance in my life before Valerie called again. “I'm ready,” she uttered. It's been a while, but I never thought I would keep such a thing away from my best friend.Considering what she
Bella“Are you okay, ma’am?” I opened my eyes to find the nurse by my side—I was back to reality.“Where's my father?” I asked cautiously. My breath caught in my throat, and I felt the sting of fear cut deep as I got up from the bed.“You have to rest, you just fainted,” she added. I didn't care a
