Rosa had been waiting all morning that her breakfast had gone cold. The daisies sat in a vase by her bedside. Every time she looked at its petals, something twisted inside her. She felt like they weren’t hers. She didn’t even like daisies. She hated them.

She reached for the jacket Nikolai had left forgotten on the chair near her bed. She lifted it to her face, breathing it in slowly. Suddenly her eyes snapped open.

Vanilla and smoke. Not the perfume she used to wear or Nikolai's expensive cologne. Her heart started pounding in her chest as she gripped the jacket tighter, her nails digging into the fabric. “You’ve been with someone,” she murmured, her voice trembling between disbelief and rage. Her chest rose and fell rapidly as her thoughts spiralled.

And then she laughed like a maniac, possessed. The laughter suddenly turned to anger in an instant. She threw the jacket across the room, her body shaking. The vase of daisies followed shattering against the wall, water spillin

The mansion was half asleep when Rosa arrived, the iron gates opening for her without a sound. Her taxi drove away as soon as she stepped out, leaving her alone at the foot of the steps. For a moment, she stood motionless, glancing around the mansion. The guards stationed at the entrance stood unbothered when she passed. Rosa’s heels clicked across the polished floor as she walked through the vast hallway to the study. Two men stood outside the door and gave her a curt nod before pushing the heavy door open. Inside, the air was a mix of tobacco and cedarwood. The curtains were drawn, letting in only a blade of morning light. Behind the massive oak desk sat the boss, his silver hair nearly pushed to the back. He was writing something. When he finally looked up, his gaze locked on hers, sharp and predatory. "Rosa," he said quietly. His voice was as low and smooth as aged whiskey. "You’re up earlier than I expected." Her lips curved into a faint forced smile. "I couldn’t sleep."

Rosa woke very early before dawn, and her mind was restless. She had dreamt that Nikolai was seeing someone else behind her back, and just the thought made her blood boil. So when the clock struck five, she slipped her legs off the bed, the tiles very cold on her bare feet. Her hospital gown hung loosely on her slender body. The nurse outside her room snored lightly, and she took it as a clue to keep moving. The door opened with a soft click but the nurse didn’t stir. Rosa’s lips curved slightly, it seemed like the heavens were by her side. She tiptoed down the corridor, careful not to make any sound. A janitor’s cart stood near the storage closet. She reached for a grey coat hanging on a hook, wrapping it around her shoulders. Her reflection in the small window by the door startled her, her skin was very pale, her eyes dark like a ghost of the woman she once was. "Still beautiful," she whispered. Outside, the city air hit her like cold water. She stood for a moment, breathing

Nikolai hadn’t meant to be late. But the morning dragged longer than he’d planned. His phone wouldn’t stop buzzing — meetings, calls, signatures needed. Yet none of those were the real reason. He had sat in his office, staring blankly at the window. When he finally stood, it was almost noon. 'Will you come back again tomorrow,' had jolted him from his trance. On his way to the hospital, he stopped by the florist and picked a bouquet for her, her favourite. By the time he arrived in the hospital ward, it was noon. Rosa was awake, propped against her pillows, her red brown hair loosely draped over her shoulders. The sunlight through the curtains gave her a fragile glow. She turned the moment the door opened, her face lighting up like a child who had been given her favourite candy. "Nikolai. You came," she said, relief washing over her pale face, her voice excited. "I thought maybe… You weren’t coming today." She added with pouted lips. " I said I’d visit," he replied, his tone

The clock on the wall ticked softly in the silent room. Isabella sat curled up on the couch in Nikolai’s private office, a sketchbook open on the table before her and a pencil held idly in her hand. For the past hour, she had been staring at the same half-finished dress design. She couldn't bring herself to concentrate anymore, her mind was a whirlwind of emotions. Nikolai was late again! It had been happening all week. He would drive her to the office before leaving, his voice low, barely a whisper promising to return soon. But 'soon' always became hours. Since he had warned her about walking around, she had always missed lunch. She had only taken lunch once since the beginning of the week, and even when he came back he didn't seem to care anymore. There was a tremendous change in his personality that even a blind person could see at a distance. He had failed to come home twice, and in those days he'd only send Roman to send her home very late in the night, like he had even forgo

The sleek black car slid into the underground parking lot of Regal Hospital. The moment it halted, Nikolai stepped out adjusting his jacket. Roman followed him a few steps behind blindly, a nervous sweat forming and dripping down his face. The hospital corridor was unusually quiet for that hour. Two bodyguards trailed Nikolai as he strode forward, their long strides echoing against the tiled floor. When they reached Dr Florence’s office, Roman moved ahead to knock, but Nikolai pushed the door open himself. The doctor, a man in his late fifties with sagging glasses flinched slightly at the sudden intrusion. He had been pacing behind his desk, a folder lying on the table before him. "Mr Volkov," she greeted. "Thank you for coming at such short notice." "You said it was about Rosa. What happened?" Nikolai asked inviting himself to the seat. "Five years ago, after the incident, we processed the remains brought in from the mall. You insisted on a private burial, but the official
