Chapter 44

I had fled Sandro's office right after his rejection. It burned a lot.

The steamy dreams I kept having about him made matters worse but I didn't let the rejection weigh me down for more than a day.

If he wanted to be hot one day and cold the next, fine. But I wasn't going to let it stop the great thing I had going for myself.

The next day, I joined the soldiers in the training field.

The stares and whispers started right as I walked into the field.

With my shoulders squared and my head held high, I made a beeline for where Maria stood. She was demonstrating a technique to a group of younger girls, future warriors.

“Maybe you could teach me that too,” I said from behind her.

They all turned in my direction, shock evident on their faces except Maria who wore a small smile. The girls regained their composure in seconds and bowed their heads.

“Hello. Do you mind if I borrow your trainer for a moment?” I said, pulling Maria towards me.

She cocked her head when we had moved away from th

Post sex sleep hit so good. Sandro wasn't bluffing, I was wincing with every step I took to the bathroom when I woke up. Days passed and there seemed to be no further disturbance from the said agency or the inspector but we needed stronger confirmation so we all stayed put.Sofia was getting restless and surprisingly, I shared her plight. We asked Sandro if there was anything we could do that did not involve the usual and he suggested my least favourite activity, training. Sofia was a pretty spectator for the day. Maria joined Sandro, Dante and I in the clearing. We were all dressed in casual gym clothes. Groaning at the stress that lay ahead, I pouted at Sandro who just looked amused. The wind around us picked up and the sound of a flowing stream nearby got louder. “The weather is responding to your emotions,” Sandro answered the question in my mind. We all turned to look at him and he shrugged. “I've been doing my research.”The beta, delta and Maria, all knew about my magic p

Everything happened so fast. One moment, Lin was doing her magic, the next moment, she was flying out of the room at an insane speed. I didn't wait for her to speak before I started running towards where Sandro's men were waiting for us. “Is it done?” I asked her while we were approaching the car.Lin barely glanced at me and her voice came out in a squeak. “I'm not sure. The magic didn't last long and he sensed that something was going on.”The drive back to the pack was tense. No one said a word. Sandro tried to speak to me via mind link but I told him we were on the way back and put up my mental block.——“You didn't fail me, Elara,” Sandro said as I sobbed into my hands. My shoulder was shaking from the tears. My throat was too clogged to reply so I just sat there,“Hey,” he said, pulling my face out of my hands so I could look at him. “We don't even know if it worked or not. If it didn't, we can try something else. It's no big deal, really,” he said in an attempt to console me.

The special agency led by Inspector Antonelli, had found the site of Ombra Nera’s last weapons transfer and were working their way up the chain of command, a trail that led directly to the Moretti family. They were close. Too close. We didn't think it was a personal vendetta against Sandro because they would have made another move after the first. With this, it turns out we were wrong. “Are you sure?” I asked Sandro. He hesitated for a moment before nodding. “I’m asking you to use your magic to help me, help us.”My eyes widened in surprise, but I nodded slowly, the corners of my lips turning up into a small, hopeful smile. “I’m glad you finally came around.”“But you need to promise me you'll be careful. I can't have anything happening to you,” he said, his voice a low rumble.I walked towards him and took his hands in mine. “I'll be careful. I promise,” I said, my smile full and genuine. The next morning, we had a closed door meeting where we went over the plan with Sandro's most t

“I thought you said that Lin barely had any magic,” Sandro said, giving me a look of disapproval. “Was that a lie?”I stammered. “No, well, yes…not exactly. It's not as though she doesn't have powers. Only that she requires a powerful source to draw from, so she can harness their powers.”“She can control it, I assure you,” I told him. Undoubtedly, my plan was risky, it was reckless but no one had a better alternative. Lin’s powers were relatively safe. She had the ability to manipulate the mind. She was a mind faery. She could listen to and manipulate a person's thoughts but she could only do that by siphoning magic from an external source and temporarily using their magic while still in contact with the source. Sandro shook his head in disbelief. “And what source would she harness the magic from? Is there a magic artifact that she can take or what?”I took a deep breath, bracing myself for his reaction. “Yes, there is. Me.”“What does that mean? Sandro asked, his voice a low rumbl

Sofia's revelation made no sense. Not to me, not to her, and certainly not to Sandro. How could the same man have discovered our existence as werewolves and at the same time, be a part of an agency that busted Ombra Nera’s operations? It felt too bizarre to be a coincidence and if it was, it was a damn good one.“Inspector Valerius Antonelli. We have his face so we know everything there is to know about him now. The only thing is, he's heavily protected round the clock and doesn't have loose ends we can use to set him straight,” Silas reported one afternoon while I was having lunch with my mate.Since the whole saga, Sandro was staying indoors more often which meant we got to spend more time together, which was great. Sandro nodded. “Let me know if anything changes,” he said then dismissed him.“When you say loose ends…do you mean to hurt someone?” I asked Sandro when we were alone, making sure to voice my question in the least vulgar way possible. He sighed. “It's best if you don't

I ordered for immediate protocols to be implemented in the pack, starting that very day I received the news. Members of the pack were to avoid anything that'll take them into town until I figure out what to do about the situation. Humans shouldn't be aware of the existence of werewolves. Never. “It's really serious huh?” I heard Elara say as she came to stand beside me.She looked ethereal in her flowery flowing dress. “It is. No one should leave the pack into town for now,” I explained, looking at the pack members that were shuffling around, trying to put things in place.“I have my men doing what they can to find the person who approached Sofia and find out what they know but we have to be safe first,” I told her with a knowing look. She rolled her eyes mockingly. “Nobody would be going into town, I got it.”“No one. Especially not you. You have your history from when you were in Open Creek, coupled with… this magic that seems to be out of control. You'll just be putting yourself
