Alpha Kaidon's POV
As I drove into Kris's property, I heaved a sigh of relief. A sense of excitement and relaxation overwhelmed me. It has been a while since I took a break away from my Alpha duties and this occasion was giving me a chance to not only relax but to spend time with my long-time friend. From afar, I could see Kris and his entourage, waiting outside and getting ready to receive me. A smile escaped my lips. I drove to the mansion and stopped right in front of it. As I got down if the car, a valet walked up to me and I handed him the car keys. “Kaidon! It's been ages, brother,” Kris said with excitement in his voice as I walked up to him. He opened his arms for a warm hug and I returned the hug. “It’s great to see you again, brother. How long has it been?” I replied. “About 4 to 5 years, I guess,” he answered. “Oh yeah, around the time we both got reinstated as Alphas. I guess the responsibility was just too much in our shoulders,” I said. “Of course, please come in. Welcome to my humble abode,” he said as we turned to and began to walk into the building. “Wow, your place looks amazing,” I complimented as I looked around the house. “Thank you bro. I had some renovations done since you last visited. Come on, we have some catching up to do,” he finally said. As we walked further into the mansion, the sound of laughter and music grew louder. I was surprised to find a party in full fledge. “I see you already started the celebration without me,” I said pretending to sound a bit upset. Kris laughed, his eyes sparkling with amusement. “Well forgive me, brother. But you know me, Kaidon, I'm always ready to party. I don't ever miss an opportunity to have a good time,” he said I chuckled at his response. “Well, I guess I have to forgive you this time,” I said. “If you're not too exhausted, I suggest we go grab a glass or two. I have a fine selection of wine and spirits I'm sure you'd love” he suggested. A glass of wine was what I needed at the moment to unwind. “Sure,” I replied. Kris led the way and we entered into the ballroom where guests were dancing, drinking and mingling. Kris and I made our way to the bar and Kris spoke to the bartender. I didn't hear what was said as I was focused on the music playing in the background. “Here you go,” Kris said, turning my attention back to him. He had two glasses and he gave me one. Until it from him and thanked him. After a quick sip, I drew the glass away from my lips. “This is good,” I said. “I told you,” he replied. I took another sip of the wine, allowing the delicious taste pass down my throat smoothly. “So tell me brother, what's been going on with you? I'm sure it's been going really well for you,” He said. “I won't say the same,” I said, my expression dampening. “What's the matter bro? You look like you just lost a battle,” Kris said, turning to face me. I saw the concern etched in his face and I could tell that he was worried. “I had a bit of a situation with a witch recently,” I said. Kris's eyes widened in surprise. “What kind of situation? I know how much you hate witches so what encounter could you have had with a witch to make you this troubled,” he said. I went on to tell him about Ravenna's execution and the curse she laid on me. I also told him about the various nightmares I had been receiving. “Wow bro, that's really terrible. What are you going to do about it?” He asked me. “I don't know, man. I've tried searching for my mate so I could kill her before she gets to me first but I haven't been able to find her,” I replied, sipping from my glass again. “Well, you have to be very careful then,” he said, patting my back. I nodded in agreement. We spoke about other things before tiredness finally overwhelmed me. Kris offered to escort me to my room and after freshening up, I surprisingly managed to get some restful sleep. For the first time in months, I didn't have any nightmares. It was the best sleep I've had in a while. I woke up feeling rejuvenated. The following day, I decided to explore the Blue Moon Pack, hoping to gather some valuable insights I could take back to my own pack. While walking through town, my eye caught a young woman with long, dark hair. She wasn't the first person I saw on my walk but she somehow caught my attention. I watched from a distance as she chopped some wood, for what was likely going to be used to make dinner later. Just as I was wondering why a woman was doing such a tedious job, an older woman walked out of the house with a scowl in her face. “What the hell do you think you're doing, Lila? You're not even doing it well. You're just useless, like your parents,” the older woman yelled. “I'm doing my best, aunty. The work is a bit too much for me but I'm doing the best I can,” the Lila girl said. “Now you're talking back at me. You're going to get punished for this,” the older woman, now furious, said. Before I could say jack, she raised her hand and smacked Lila across the face. I wanted to rush out and stop her from hitting Lila again but I knew this wasn't any of my business. “Next time, you don't get to talk back at me,” the woman said before storming back into the house.I searched everywhere. Every town, every market, every rogue-infested border. Nothing. She was gone. And every damn night, I would find myself out there—barefoot, shirtless, drunk on regret—staring at the moon, whispering like a lunatic.“Please,” I’d beg, my knees in the dirt, my hands raised like a madman. “Moon goddess, I know I don’t deserve her. I know I’ve failed her. But please, just let me find her again. Let me tell her I love her. Let me… let me make things right.”Sometimes I’d talk to the spirit of Ravenna, the very witch I killed.“I was young… I didn’t know,” I’d mutter under my breath like a man possessed. “You were never the threat. It was the sickness, the fear. I thought I was protecting my people… I didn't mean to hurt you. Please, if your soul is out there, let her come back to me. Or at least let me find her.”No answer. Not even the wind bothered to whisper back. For a year, I didn’t sleep right. I barely ate. The pack thought I was losing my mind. Maybe I was.L
I didn’t stop running that night, not when the moon turned red. Not when my lungs started to burn. Not even when I felt like my heart was about to shatter into tiny, useless pieces.Kaidon had helped me escape. He told me not to come back.He said he’d find me.But he didn’t.Not for three whole days.By the time I collapsed in the mountains, I was already half dead. I don’t even remember falling. All I remember was the biting wind and the sound of my own sobbing echoing through the trees. Then nothing. When I opened my eyes again, it wasn’t the cold I felt anymore; it was warmth. Warm sheets. A fire crackling nearby. A cup of something that smelled like ginger by the bedside. I blinked a few times before my vision cleared.“Ah, finally awake,” a soft voice said.It was a woman. Mid-forties, maybe. Her grey-streaked hair was braided down her back. She had these kind eyes that reminded me of... well, of how I wished a mother would look.“You were out cold when my husband found you,” sh
It was past midnight when Elder Loin came knocking at my door. I knew it had to be something serious. The old man never left his quarters at that hour unless the walls were falling.I sat up from my desk and stared at him. “You couldn’t sleep either?” I asked with a tired chuckle. He didn’t return the smile.Instead, he stepped in and closed the door behind him. “We need to talk, Alpha. Privately.”That made my heart sink.“Sit,” I said, pointing at the seat across from me.But he remained standing. “Drake. He’s pushing for Lila’s execution.”My chest tightened.“What?” I whispered, blinking as if I’d misheard.“Drake went to the other elders,” he continued. “Told them she’s a threat. He reminded them that she’s the girl from the prophecy; that the curse is already playing out and you’re blinded by your feelings. He convinced them. They voted for her execution.”I stood from my seat immediately, fists clenched at my sides.“When?” I asked.“Three nights from now. They want to do it du
At first, I thought I was imagining it. The way my limbs would suddenly feel… weightless, like I could carry a boulder or sprint faster than the wind. It started the day Kaidon kissed me, and since then, every time he touched me, even if it was just his hand brushing against mine, I felt something inside me shift, like a flame catching fire in a dark room… like strength I never had before.“Kaidon,” I had asked him one evening as we sat under the moonlit sky, his arms wrapped around me from behind, “why do I feel... stronger whenever I’m around you?”He chuckled and kissed the top of my head. “Love,” he said. “Love makes people brave. Love makes people stronger.”I remember wanting to believe him. I did. But it wasn’t just strength. It was something else… something darker. It started as a whisper in my head…Hurt him.I’d flinch every time it came, like someone had poured ice water down my spine. The first time it happened, I was in the kitchen, preparing his favorite tea. I was hummi
The council hall was thick with the scent of incense and authority. Every elder, every warrior leader, every man who swore loyalty to the Moonstone Pack, sat in the curved circle of chairs. I stood at the center of it all. This was going to be a meeting like no other!I was going to tell them!“Gentlemen,” I began, letting my voice echo across the room like the wind before a storm. “Thank you for coming.”“Alpha,” Elder Marcus said, giving a short nod. “Is it something urgent?”I folded my arms. “A few things, actually. We need to talk about security. Patrol shifts, border strength… and something else.”“Border strength?” Elder Joseph leaned forward. “We haven’t had a rogue breach in a long time. Our borders are secure.”“I know,” I replied. “But there’s been too much internal drama lately. People turning against one another. Lies, sabotage, even attempted murder. It weakens us. Once our enemies find out that we're not united, they will strike. We can't wait for them to do that before
Something had come up earlier that day.Something I wasn’t proud of.Another nightmare… the same one that haunted my sleep for months now. The same faceless wolf chasing me across a field of fire and ash, until I fell… and she stared down at me with those hollow, haunting eyes, then turned and vanished into the mist. Every time I woke up, gasping for breath, soaked in sweat, like death had brushed past me. But this time... it felt stronger. Realer. Like the wolf was trying to show me something. Warn me.So I canceled dinner with Lila.I told her it was a meeting with the council. She didn’t question it, even though I saw the flash of disappointment in her eyes before she masked it with a soft smile and nodded.“Okay, Alpha,” she had said quietly. “Maybe another time.”I wanted to reach out, to tell her the truth. But how could I? How do you tell the woman who smiles when you walk into a room, who holds your hand like it's worth something… that you’re cursed to die at her hands? No. Th
