Turning around, she saw her daughter at the door, watching her with concern.
"My dear, I was just getting ready to go and visit your aunt for a few days. But I have to prepone my trip; her health is getting worse." The older woman tucked her hair behind her ear, trying to maintain composure.
Despite her attempt to present a reassuring smile, her daughter’s expression revealed her worry.
"Mother, should I come with you? W-what will I do h—" Hailey started to ask, but her mother quickly shook her head. "Don't worry, sweetheart. I promise I'll be back very soon, and who knows? Maybe next time, both of us will go together..."
"Is that really true?" Hailey questioned, feeling unsettled.
She was unfamiliar with this new aunt who had suddenly entered their lives.
Just a few weeks ago, she learned that her mother had an older sister who was in poor health. It had never crossed her mind since no one would come to help them during their difficult times.
But Hailey had no complaints. She had work to complete and a college to attend, along with a part time job she recently took.
A pout returned on Hailey's lips as her frown melted away. She scanned the suitcase filled with clothes, her thoughts unspoken yet heavy in the air.
"I-I will be in my room. Call me if you need any help from me, mom." Hailey mumbled and walked back upstairs in her room to finish her assignments.
Knowing that she would be alone in the house, it was an opportunity to work for more hours. Hailey tied her hair into a big bun and buried her head into the assignments and work.
Her concentration didn't bulge, not until she heard the bells coming from downstairs. "Muma! Someone is at the door!" she yelled but to her disappointment, the bells continued to ring and no one was present to open the door.
A frown settled on her brow as she pushed away from her table and climbed the stairs of her small house, finally shouting, "I'm coming!" The persistent ringing of the doorbell was driving her crazy.
But before rushing to answer, her gaze swept across the empty rooms. "Where’s Mum?" she wondered, her expression hardening with concern.
Still, she shook off the worry and opened the door, ready to face whatever awaited her.
Before her stood two imposing figures clad in leather jackets. A sense of surprise washed over her as she noticed a striking dragon tattoo circling around their necks.
They turned their faces to the door just as it swung open, revealing a little girl peeking out. “Y-Yes?” she asked hesitantly.
“Can you tell us if you are Miss Hailey Davidson?” one of the men inquired gently, his voice unusually soft for someone with such a tough exterior.
She swallowed hard, nodding slightly while her grip on the doorknob tightened, sensing an unshakable sense of danger looming nearby.
"Why are you looking for me, Mister?" she asked doubtedly, but suddenly felt the man bringing something from his back which covered her mouth and nostrils.
He had his one hand around her head to press the fragrance into her body and within a few twitch of seconds, Hailey felt her body weakening.
Her wide eyes stared at the two goons like figures. She watched them stepping inside and closing the door behind, while Hailey struggled to escape.
But the fragrance ended up reaching up to her brain and without her knowing, she drifted and met with extreme darkness....
........
Light consciousness started to gather around her while a few words entered her ears. But she found them too weird and strange to make a sentence and understand them.
A heavy growth escaped her lips and she found her body aching with pain. Hailey was appalled as she tried to use one of her arms to stretch out but to her dismay, she was stuck to an unknown place.
Snapping her eyes, Hailey looked around her surroundings, to find herself at an extremely unknown place.
Suddenly, her heart pounded too loudly and fear engulfed in its embrace, "Help!! Someone please help me! Where am I?!"
Then she moved her eyes to look at the two more bodyguards at the entrance. Unsure if they were there to guard her from any danger or were the lurking terror to her.
But she mustered courage to ask them, "Could you please tell me where I am?! Why have you..." her words turned slow on noticing the position she was in.
Her entire body was tied with ropes and their pressure was too rough and tight. "This...this..why..What have I done!!? Who are all of you?"
"Shh....our boss is coming."
One of the men passed a comment and at that time, she heard footsteps approaching them. Her mind went blank but terror never left her.
Nevertheless, a man stepped inside the room. But due to insufficient light, she failed to see his face until he asked his man to switch on a few lights far away from where they were.
As a few lights entered the empty place, she finally came across the man's face, who wasn't staring at her. "When did she wake up?" he asked the bodyguard whom she had asked earlier.
"Just a few minutes before, boss. She has been screaming since then."
"Tsk tsk...what a waste of energy." the man commented and frightened as a kitten, her breath slowed.
He approached her with his light step and bent down to face her with his, where she saw those cold blooded eyes. "Welcome to my den, Miss Davidson."
"W-why..am I!? Who are you?" Hailey brought courage in her hell bent heart but she saw him chuckling at her words. "Who are you..hmm. It seems my guess was right that you don't know who you are, isn't it so?"
Hailey appeared confused and looked at his face for answers. What does he mean that she knows nothing about herself? As if sensing her questionnaire filled doubts, the man laughed until he asked his men to switch on the television near her.
When he mentioned this, her eyes traced to see the recent news telecasted on the channels. "t-this..."
"The famous underworld king, Aiken Lynn has died because of a sudden shootout between his group and one of his rivals. Interesting, isn't it so?"
The man twisted the words but Hailey never tore her gaze from him. He was playing with her mind at this crucial step and she had no idea how to react.
Her rough and messy self looked at his face where he suddenly brought his one hand around her cheeks. When one of those cold fingers touched her skin, she flinched and wanted to shrink them, yet to her bewilderment her hands were bound by those ropes.
"Such a beautiful lady, I doubt how a bastard man like Lynn can bring you into this world....'' his words turned her eyes hollow. "W-what nonsense are you spouting!"
Suddenly, the man gripped her chin tightly and traced her to stare in those eyes where she was sure she could dive in. They were containing danger, a fear she wasn't ready to come across.
"Nonsense? Then let me tell you Haley. You are the daughter of an underworld King, or shall I say, late underworld king. An heir to his mafia group and an heir to this title... Hailey Lynn."
"We support you in this mission, Mr. Mattson," one of the men said firmly, his voice echoed by the sharp, synchronized thud of fists slamming down on the desk.It wasn’t just a gesture—it was a vow. A show of unity. Of allegiance. Denis didn’t need to hear them swear loyalty. He could feel it. The energy shifted in the room as every man present backed him, not just as the acting head, but as the force that would now lead the Aiken Group forward. His eyes swept across the table. A proud smirk curled the corner of his lips, but he masked it swiftly. There was no space for pride yet. Not until the last chess piece was under control.“For the time being,” he said in his composed, low timbre, “I want everyone to proceed with the funeral arrangements. Let us bury Aiken Lynn in peace and
"I am sorry for your loss, Mr. Mattson.""My condolences, sir."The voices echoed, one after another, from the thousands who came to pay respect. They stood in lines—some with bowed heads, others with solemn eyes—all casting fleeting glances at the man who stood motionless at the front. Denis Mattson. His expression was unreadable. Distant. Cold. As if grief dared not touch him.Dressed in a sharp black tuxedo, one gloved hand folded neatly over the other in front of his coat, Denis stood tall. His eyes were hidden behind jet-black sunglasses, masking any sliver of emotion. He didn’t weep. He didn’t speak. His silence screamed louder than any words could.Standing behind him were three other men—
"I will not kill anyone!" Hailey’s tone was firm—straight as a blade. Her eyes, despite the red puffiness around them, gleamed with quiet defiance. There was a tremble in her fingers, but not in her resolve.Zayn studied her face—those stubborn, tear-rimmed eyes, that clenched jaw, and trembling hands. She was fragile, no doubt. But not weak. There was something fierce beneath her trembling surface, and he couldn’t ignore it.Yet, no matter how strong her heart was, Zayn knew the world outside wasn’t kind to those who hesitated to kill.“It’s nice to hold onto your thoughts,” he said after a pause, voice quiet but laced with something heavier—truth. “I won’t burst your bubble… but I hope it doesn’t get popped by someone else too soon.&rdq
It was already nightfall when dinner was served in her room. Hailey sat curled in the corner of the bed, legs folded tight, head buried between them—her world reduced to the silence between sobs she refused to release. Her heart had shattered at the events unfolding before her.Everything seemed to linger in her mind like a microchip—too vivid, too surreal. Like a broken reel of memories playing in a loop she didn’t ask for.Suddenly, a knock broke the silence, like a crack of thunder in a dead sky."May I come in?""Y-Y-Yes… you may," she answered quietly, her voice a whisper coated in tremble. She was trying, painfully, to keep herself from crumbling completely. An old woman ent
Hailey walked towards the room with her unsteady steps, legs aching after being tied to ropes for days.A lady aligned her steps, by maintaining a straight distance and looked worried after noticing her girl's poor condition."You should have agreed with him on the first glance itself." Hailey heard the lady saying, however it wasn't the taunt. It was the care and worry."A-as... if you all believed I knew.. That.. I will land here?" Hailey took a sight of the magnificent house, her eyes turning wide.It was a huge mansion, and she was walking in circles. In the centre was the chandelier, the ones she had witnessed in the movies. It was no less than a four story house, built in a circle and a huge living room in the centre.Unlike the darkness she went through underground, this place was purely a bliss to her eyes."H-He.. lives here?""Yes. This is my boss's house." The lady behind her answered. She helped Hailey in walking and brought her to one of the rooms, the door opened and she
"I didn't think you would be convinced so easily, Hailey." Zayn's words brought an unsaid annoyance on her face. She twisted her expressions to say, "Not letting me drink water or eat food, is that how you want me to submit to you?" "That's the least harshness we have shown to you as Lynn's daughter." he honestly told her, the curve on his face turning bigger. "If it was one of his men, his legs and arms would have been broken till now." "Hah, shall I be grateful to your mercy....?" "Perhaps you should. I have taken into account that you were unaware of your hierarchy." Hailey wanted to laugh at her destiny. One moment she was dreaming about earning more money, doin extra-part time. The very next moment her life was drenched with bad dreams. The dream of being entangled with Zayn Wakon. When Zayn didn't get the replies from Hailey, he walked up to her. Under the same dim light, after a day. "So, shall we talk if you are in your correct mindset?" he asked but Hailey didn't beli
