Chapter 3

Author: lvy
After Alexander left with Elena, he vanished for a full week.

For that entire week, the rumor mill in Sicily’s underworld was buzzing. They said the Don had taken his beloved new mistress to the high seas for the annual yacht party, and that she would soon be the new donna.

My phone kept buzzing with private photos sent by Elena.

The first was of her sunbathing on the deck of a luxury yacht, wearing a barely-there bikini. The caption read: [The Don says only the ocean blue matches my eyes.]

The second was a photo of a man’s hand applying ointment to her inner thigh. The pinky ring, symbolizing the Don’s absolute power, stung my eyes.

The caption read: [I bumped into something, and the Don insisted on applying the medicine himself. He’s so nervous about me.]

I looked at the photos and felt no heartbreak, only a dead, ashen numbness.

I had finished packing. All that was left was to deliver the documents for the transfer of the family's core power and get them signed. After that, I would have no ties to this family.

I tracked the yacht to its dock and drove straight there.

The bodyguards on the deck recognized me and didn't dare stop me. Holding the documents, I walked straight to the main cabin and pushed open the slightly ajar door.

Inside, Elena, wearing that skimpy bikini, was straddling Alexander’s lap, her arms wrapped around his neck in an incredibly suggestive pose.

Hearing the door open, Elena screamed, scrambled off him in a panic, and grabbed a shirt to cover her body, her face flushing red as she explained:

"Ivy! Don't... don't misunderstand! The Don is injured. I... I was just helping him dress the wound on his chest!"

Alexander frowned. He hadn't even bothered to push Elena away.

He looked up at me, his eyes showing the annoyance of being interrupted. "Aren't you in the middle of a divorce tantrum? Why did you chase me all the way to the boat?"

I let out a cold laugh and threw the file onto the table. "What? If I didn't come, how would I know that treating the Don’s wound requires a bikini?"

Elena hid behind Alexander, biting her lip aggrievedly. "Ivy, how can you say that... I was just trying to help..."

Alexander’s face darkened. He stood up abruptly, shielding Elena behind him, and interrupted me impatiently:

"Ivy, enough! How long are you going to keep this up?"

He lit a cigar. Through the swirling smoke, his expression was indifferent and entitled.

"Look at yourself right now. You’re acting like a shrew. In my position, what Godfather doesn't have a few women on the side? It’s just physical; why do you care so much?"

He took a step closer, looking down at me with charitable arrogance.

"No matter who I play with outside, you will always be my only donna. That was the glory you wanted most, wasn't it? Is that not enough?"

I looked at the man I had loved for years and suddenly felt he was a complete stranger.

"Glory?" I repeated softly, then laughed mockingly. "Alexander, I don't want that glory anymore."

"This is the division of assets and the transfer of power. Sign it. Once you sign, I’ll get the hell out and stop disturbing you two while you 'treat wounds'."

Alexander’s hand paused on his cigar, a flash of irritation in his eyes. "Fine. Great. Since you want to play hardball, I'll play along."

He didn't even look at the contents of the document and signed his name directly.

"Take your things and get out. But I bet you won't last three days before you come crying and begging me to let you back."

I left the marina with the freshly signed power transfer documents and returned to the estate to pack my final belongings.

I had lived in this house for three years, yet the things that truly belonged to me were pitifully few.

I took only a few old clothes and a photo album. I didn't touch a single piece of jewelry.

Just as I snapped the suitcase shut, the bedroom door was kicked open.

Alexander stormed in, his face twisted with rage. He crumbled a piece of paper in his hand and smashed it into my face.

"Ivy! What the hell did you do to Elena?!"

The sharp edge of the paper sliced across my cheek, leaving a stinging pain.

I looked down. It was a handwritten letter from Elena:

[ Don, I’m leaving. Ivy warned me that if I don't disappear, she’ll kill my parents. I don't want to put you in a difficult position, and I don't want my parents to die... Please take care of yourself. Love, Elena. ]

After reading it, I couldn't help but laugh out loud. "You actually believe this clumsy lie?"

Alexander grabbed me by the throat and slammed me against the wall, his eyes bloodshot.

"A lie? She was willing to die for me; what reason does she have to lie to me? But you, Ivy—how did I never realize you were this venomous?"

"You know she has no one to rely on. Without the Family's protection, she’s dead meat! You are forcing her to her death!"

I didn't bother to explain. I squeezed a few words out of my constricted throat: "Whether she lives or dies is none of my damn business."

"You—!"

Alexander tightened his grip. Just then, the phone in his pocket began to vibrate violently.

He let go of me and answered the call.

From the other end came Elena’s bloodcurdling screams and the sound of gunshots.

"Don! Help me! There are so many hitmen... it’s Ivy’s people! They said they’re going to kill me... Ah! My leg!"

The call cut off abruptly.

Alexander’s face went deadly pale, then transformed into a monstrous rage.

He stared at me, his eyes radiating a chilling murderous intent.

"Did you leak her location?"

"Ivy, you’ve crossed the line. If she dies, I will make you wish you were never born."

With that, he rushed out like a hurricane.

I slumped to the floor, touching the finger marks on my neck, laughing until tears came out.

Alexander, you are incurably stupid.

If I really wanted to kill her, she wouldn't have had the chance to make a phone call.

My family never leaves witnesses.

Alexander lay in the hospital ICU for a week. His dreams were filled with the past. His first meeting with Ivy, her vows at the wedding, and the desperate look in her eyes as she lay on the operating table. When he woke up, the room was empty. No flowers, no fruit, and certainly not that familiar figure. Only the bodyguard who had brought him in had left a payment bill and gone. After being discharged, he didn't dare appear in front of Ivy again.Like a rat in the gutter, Alexander rented an old apartment opposite Gabriel’s estate. His only joy every day was peeping at her life through a telescope. He saw her planting tulips in the garden, sunlight spilling on her face, her smile so brilliant. It was a smile she never had during the three years she was with him.Gabriel was right beside her, handing her the shovel, wiping her sweat. That picture of peaceful years stung his eyes and made him realize just how thoroughly he had lost.Alexander spent the last of his money to buy a loose di

Ivy held onto Gabriel’s arm, walking through the manor's iron gates without glancing sideways. In her peripheral vision, the black figure standing in the heavy rain was as stiff as a statue. Alexander was right there, but she wouldn't even spare him a look.Back in the villa, the heating dispelled the chill from her body."I'll make something to eat." Gabriel took off his coat, rolled up his sleeves, and walked to the open kitchen.Ivy sat at the bar, watching him skillfully chop vegetables and sear steaks. The warm yellow light fell on him, creating a domestic atmosphere she hadn't felt in a long time.Once, she had fantasized about moments like this with Alexander. But all he gave her were cold armories, endless waiting, and a back that reeked of blood."What are you thinking about?" Gabriel handed her a glass of red wine, his eyes gentle.Ivy took the glass and looked out the floor-to-ceiling bulletproof window. The rain was still falling, and that figure was still standing there, l

When Vincent returned to the room, Ivy had already finished packing. He glanced out the window at Alexander being dragged away and asked her, "Heartache?"Ivy closed her suitcase, her tone as calm as if discussing the weather. "Heartache? That kind of thing died on the operating table long ago. I just feel disgusted. I don't want to be pestered by a mad dog anymore."Vincent nodded with satisfaction. "Good. Sicily is too chaotic right now. That lunatic Alexander will definitely come harass you again when he wakes up. Go to Switzerland. The lakes and mountains there are good for healing.""I've made arrangements. Gabriel will pick you up in Zurich."Gabriel?A name surfaced in Ivy’s mind. Gabriel, the youngest financial tycoon in Europe and a crucial partner in the Rainier family’s money laundering operations. Born into old nobility, he was a true gentleman.Over ten hours later, the plane landed at Zurich Airport.Just as she walked out of the tunnel, a man in a beige trench coat with

The Rainier family’s declaration of war was like a nuclear bomb, destroying half of the Alexander family’s influence overnight. As revenge from the Rainier family, this was only the beginning. That night, a bulletproof Rolls-Royce flying a white flag stopped at the gates of the Rainier castle.Alexander’s mother, the once-arrogant donna, walked in alone. She looked ten years older, her air of insufferable superiority completely gone.Ivy met her in the drawing room."Ivy... no, Miss Rainier." She looked at Ivy, her eyes complex, holding a trace of fear. "I am not here to beg for mercy. I know that ungrateful son of mine has committed unforgivable sins."She took a thick stack of documents from her bag and pushed them towards Ivy."These are the deeds to one-third of our family’s territory in Sicily, and the control rights to our two most profitable shipping routes in the Mediterranean.""This is compensation. I only ask that the Rainier family spare Alexander’s life."Vincent, standing

Elena collapsed to the floor, scrambling backward. "Don, let me explain... I was forced... they threatened me..."His mother walked in cold-faced and slammed a thick stack of documents and photos into Elena’s face. The photos scattered everywhere—proof of her meeting with the rival family, selling intelligence, and the forensic report from the shooting six months ago, clearly showing it was all staged with actors and props."Explain?" Alexander stepped on her hand as she tried to reach for the photos—the same hand she used to play the piano to seduce him.He applied pressure, listening to the sound of metacarpals crushing, feeling not a ripple of emotion."Ah—! My hand! Don, please... I was wrong..." Elena screamed shrilly, rolling on the ground in agony. He crouched down, gripping her chin, forcing her to look into his bloodshot eyes."You used these hands to play for me, used these hands to plot against Ivy, and used these hands to sell out the Family." Elena had recovered well enough, but the restlessness in Alexander's heart refused to settle. She was still begging him to stay by her side, but his patience had finally run dry. He turned on his heel and strode toward Ivy’s hospital room. For some reason, a sense of unease was growing inside him like weeds. As he passed Elena’s attending physician's office, the door was slightly ajar. The voices drifting out made him freeze in his tracks."Just inject me with a little more of this compound. Create the illusion of critical condition, and the Don will lose his mind completely. That bitch Ivy's blood will be drained dry sooner or later...." It was Elena’s voice, dripping with a toxicity that was unrecognizable to him."But Miss Elena, if we are discovered...""What are you afraid of? If anything happens, I’ll take the heat. As long as that bitch Ivy dies, I will be the only donna. You’ll get your cut."Alexander's blood froze in his veins. He kicked the door open. The loud crash made th
