Alex stood transfixed, staring at me as though he couldn't believe what he was seeing. A murmur swept through the room as everyone started whispering among themselves.

“Shall we get back to the meeting, Mr. Ricci?” I asked, breaking the silence.

He cleared his throat and returned to his seat, his eyes lingering on me for a moment before he turned his attention back to the other board members.

He opened the folder in front of him and glanced around the table.

“As you can see from the proposal in front of you, Ricci Group is looking to partner with Mystic Enterprises on the development of a luxury residential complex in the heart of the city.”

He paused, allowing everyone to look through the documents.

“We're proposing a joint investment. Ricci Group will handle the construction and development, while Mystic Enterprises will come in as a strategic partner, providing part of the capital and overseeing the commercial side of the project.”

I flipped through the pages, scanning the figures.

“And what exactly are you expecting from us?” I asked.

“An initial investment of thirty percent,” Alex replied. “In return, your company would receive a thirty-five percent stake in the project, with the potential for higher returns once the development is completed.”

I looked at the proposal again.

“And the projected completion time?”

“Twenty-four months.”

“So you want to partner up with us and you need thirty percent investment?” I said.

He nodded.

I closed the folder.

“We are not interested,” I said calmly.

Everyone's heads turned to me; they all looked at me like I was crazy. I knew he needed the investment badly and I was not going to give in easily.

Alex's brows drew together. “Is there a problem?”

“The numbers don't justify the risk,” I said calmly. “You're asking my company to commit a significant amount of capital to a project entering an already competitive market.”

“We've conducted extensive market research,” one of the board members said.

“I've seen the research.” I looked at Alex. “And I still don't think it's enough. How much profit are we expecting in the first year?” I asked.

“About fifteen percent,” another board member said.

“That's not enough. I'm putting my company's money into this, I expect a better return.”

Alex's expression tightened. “I think fifteen percent is enough.”

I glared at him, tapping my fingers against the folder.

“Fifteen is not enough. If that is all you have to say, I don't think this will work”

He stared at me for a long moment before shaking his head.

“How many percent would satisfy you?”

“Forty-five.” I leaned back in my chair.

“Don't you think you're being unreasonable?” one of the board members sitting across me asked.

“Unreasonable?” My face tightened. “If you can't agree with my terms, then we can't invest in the project,” I said angrily.

“You're making a mistake. This partnership.. ”

“Enough.”

Alex's voice cut through the room.

“This is between me and her. I would appreciate it if you keep quiet.” Alex looked at the board member sharply.

Everyone exchanged uneasy glances, no one seemed to want to challenge him. A few of them shifted uncomfortably in their seats, while the room fell into an awkward silence.

Alex looked at me and folded his arms.

“We need this partnership badly, but forty-five percent is too much.”

“If you can't agree, then it's none of my business. I would like you to hurry this up; I have somewhere else to be.”

“You really don't intend to negotiate?”

I sighed loudly.

“I've already told you what I'm willing to accept. If fifteen percent is the best you can offer, then we have nothing more to discuss.”

He clenched his jaw, staring at me for a few seconds before finally looking away.

“Fine,” he said through gritted teeth.

“Forty-five percent.”

I gave him a tight smile. “Perfect. Print the revised proposal and bring it back to me.”

He nodded, still visibly annoyed.

“Fine.”

“Good. Then we have a deal.”

Alex turned to the board members.

“That will be all. You can leave.”

They exchanged quick glances before picking up their files and leaving the room. After they all left, the room fell into silence. It was just Alex and me now, sitting across from each other.

“What is going on, Ann…”

“Mrs. Trusova,” I cut him off.

“Since when?” he asked coldly.

“It's none of your business, Mr. Ricci…”

“Call me Alex, dammit.” He stood up abruptly, his jaw clenched, and walked towards me.

“I'm perfectly capable of deciding what I call you, Mr. Ricci.”

I held his gaze as he stopped in front of me.

“I think we are done here.”

“No, we need to talk.”

“We don't need to do anything, Mr. Ricci.”

He let out a frustrated breath and ran his hand through his hair.

“I told you to stop calling me that.”

“And I told you I would call you whatever I want.” I glared at him.

His eyes narrowed. “So you are married?”

“Yes, not that it is any of your business.” I lied.

He scoffed. “Of course. I don't know why I expected anything different from you.”

“It's good you know now.” I sneered, rolling my eyes at him.

I stood up and picked up the folder from the desk, holding it out to him.

“Here. Take it with you. Print the revised proposal and bring it back to me tomorrow.”

Alex took the folder from my hand, his fingers brushing mine briefly. I immediately pulled my hand away.

“Anything else?” I asked, my voice cold.

He gave me a hard look. “No. I think we are done here.”

“Good.”

I turned and walked toward the door without looking back at him. One thing I know for sure is I couldn't wait to watch everything he had built come crashing down.

AnnaThree years. That was how long it had been since I last saw Alex.Three years since our divorce.I hadn't been the one to hand him the papers. I had sent someone else to deliver them, and after that, I disappeared from his life completely. I hadn't heard from him. I hadn't seen him since the night he walked out.Not even my best friend. Sometimes, I felt guilty about that. She deserved better from me. But I needed a fresh start, I wanted a life where nobody knew me, where I didn't have to explain myself or answer to anyone. The same day I sent someone to deliver the divorce papers to Alex, I also sent someone to deliver a letter to her. In it, I told her that I was sorry for leaving without saying goodbye, I told her I wanted to start over to build a new life. I didn't know how long it would take, but I promised myself that when the time was right, I would come back for her.In those three years, I had changed. Zeke had kept his promise. He gave me everything and I had built myse

AnnaI was still on the main road when a black car cut in front of me and stopped.I hit the brakes hard. My heart slammed once against my ribs. For a second I thought we were going to hit but we stopped inches apart in the middle of the road.I glared at the car through my windshield. Was the earth testing me today? I got down to yell at whoever was in the car but a man also got down and walked towards me. He was dressed in a tailored suit and he looked handsome. He stopped inches in front of me. “Are you drunk?" I asked him angrily“Get in" he ordered Oh he's definitely drunk“I'm sorry who do you think you are, you can't just ask me to get in the car after the almost killing me” I glared at himHe massaged his temples and tilted his head back. “I need to talk to you and I don't have all day" he said with a clenched jawI gave him a polite but not genuine smile " Well I don't want to talk to you so get your car off the road” I didn't wait for his reply, I turned my back to him

AnnaMaya has been trying to cheer me up. We sat next to each other on the couch with a blanket over both of us. She kept talking, saying that it would sort out. That Alex was angry and stupid and would come back once he cooled down. That he's just stubborn but I wasn't listening.I had the phone in both hands. I dialed again. Voicemail. Again. Voicemail. “Anna. Put it down for five minutes.”“I just need to know where he is.”“He’s at Daniel’s. He needs to get his thoughts together.Calling him twenty times won’t change anything” My eyes welled up with unshed tears. I refuse to let them fall. I've cried enough for today. I sighed heavily and dropped my phone.“You're right he'll call me back" I said but I wasn't sure I believed it.Maya nodded then pulled me in for a hug." Can you try and remember what happened yesterday” she asked me" I have tried but I can't. I don't know how I ended up with Juan. It just doesn't make sense” " Do you think this is a set up,is there anyone you

AlexI didn’t go to my brother’s.I drove to Juan’s.I drove past the speed limit but I didn't care. My hands hurt from how hard I was holding the wheel. My best friend I kept seeing her face every where I turned. I almost believed her. What a fool I would have been. I hated the fact that even after everything I'm still worried about her, I wanted to gather her up in my arms earlier. It took a lot of restraint for me to stop. I shouldn't care about her but I can't bring myself to stop. I could not stop thinking about it. My best friend and my wife.“You piece of shit,” I said, and I didn’t know if It was for him or me for taking so long to see it.I turned onto his street too fast. His porch light was on. His car was in the driveway. Good. My phone rang but I could not bring myself to answer it. I parked across from the house then I got out and went straight to his door. I knocked hard enough that the door shook. “Juan,” I yelled. “Open the fucking door. Now.”The door opened. Jua

Anna“You slept with my best friend!”My entire body trembled.Alex had never raised his voice at me. Not once in the four years we had been married. I had heard him angry, frustrated, even annoyed, but never like this.I swallowed, trying to hold myself together.“I swear to you, I didn’t sleep with him.”A cold laugh escaped him.He stared at me, his nose scrunching in disgust.“Do you think I’m stupid?” he asked. “Someone sent me a picture of you two in a hotel room. You were both naked, Anna. You disgust me.Tears blurred my vision.“I don’t understand what happened. I just woke up on the bed with him”“Are you even listening to yourself”“I’m telling you the truth.” My voice shook. “All I remember is going out for a cup of coffee. I don’t know how I ended up in that hotel room with Juan.”Alex stepped closer and grabbed my wrist.“Alex, you’re hurting me.”“And I’m supposed to feel sorry for you?” His grip tightened for a second before he let go. “You’re the only one hurting peop
