Chapter 6

“Okay,” I say lowly as I turn my horse around.

“Where are you going?” She asks loudly.

“Back to The Hole. My people are without a leader, I just want to do what I came here to do, and then return.” I reply to her.

“Okay then! Let’s hunt!” Her voice is fierce, and it causes me to halt the movements of my horse.

“You say you want to hunt, yes? Well, let’s head to Olam then.” She says, and images of my parents flash in my mind, causing my heart to ache. I gulp as I hold back tears as memories of them haunt me.

I have never cried in front of anyone since my parent's death, and I am certainly not going to do that in front of this human female.

“Or I can take you back to The Hole,” She says softly.

“Is it a law that you vet me the first day?” I avoid her question. I am clearly finding an excuse not to go to the forest. I don’t think I am ready to see where my parents died.

“Yes. Well, not law, but it’s mandatory.” She says with a shrug as she now looks at me.
