Chapter Two

Daddy are you sure you sent all of the invitations out? Today has to be perfect, I could find my mate you know.” I had to keep myself from rolling my eyes as I served Julie her breakfast. She was rambling on to her father, my uncle and the Alpha of our pack about how today had to be perfect for her. Jealousy rolled through my body, causing bile to back up into my mouth. Julie and I shared the same birthdate, exactly one year apart. No one cared that my 18th birthdate had come and passed or that today was also my birthday. All attention was firmly on Julie, like always.

Julie, you have nothing to worry about. All the invitations were sent out. The catering was booked, the event center was decorated by the best party planners, and no expense was spared for your special day. In fact, I even sent invitations to the royal lycan family.” My Uncle Robert proudly told Julie.

My Aunt and Uncle took me in after my parents were tragically murdered in Century Park. By birthright, since my father never had a son, he became the Alpha of our pack, the Half Moon pack.

Although my Aunt and Uncle liked to praise themselves for taking me in, in truth, they only did it so that they could have their own personal servant. Since I was young, I was made into a servant. The same day I lost my parents, in a way, I also lost my life. My belongings were taken from me, I was forced into a cold attic room, and I was no longer loved and treasured. Instead, I learned to do laundry, fix meals, and keep a tidy house. I also became a personal punching bag for Julie.

I never knew why Julie hated me so much, but she has made it clear in every possible way that she despised my existence. She took over my room, my clothes, and essentially my life. When we were younger, she would purposely break toys that once belonged to me just because she could. As we got older, she would find every opportunity to call me names, hit me, or toss snide remarks my way.

Oh, Daddy thank you so much. Today is going to be spectacular.” Julie clapped her hands in excitement. “I have to call all the girls from school and tell them. Oh, and Jadenne, make sure that my dress is ready,” she demanded before bouncing up out of her seat to go grab her cell phone.

I rolled my eyes as I grabbed her empty plate and took it back into the kitchen. I hated that I had to serve her. I hated that she got to have a huge party where she had a chance to find her fated mate. Once Julie found her fated mate, she would also get her wolf. I never got to leave the house, so there was no way that I could find my mate or ever get my wolf.

Jadenne, once you finish the dishes, I am going to need you to go to the events center and ensure that everything is going smoothly.” My aunt Lily wasn’t overly mean to me. I pitied her for her position in life.

It was no big secret that my uncle had been in love with my mother when they were younger. The whole pack knew the story. My father and Uncle were twins, but my father was older by 2 minutes, making him the next in line for Alpha. My uncle Robert loved my mother, Helen, all through their school years, but my mother never entertained him. She was adamant that she would wait for her fated mate. Fate must have had a sense of humor because when my father turned 18, he knew that my mother was his fated mate. She still made him wait until her birthday so that she could know if he was truly her fated mate. My parents had an amazing relationship, but my uncle never got over being snubbed for his brother. When he met Lily and found out that she was his fated mate, he was almost cruel about accepting her.

Lily was naturally a docile woman, she had been an Omega in her former pack, and now she was a Luna. In my opinion, she was too weak for the position, but she was the fated mate to the Alpha.

I hate that Julie was having her party in Century Park. She really did take over my life in every way. Either way, at least I am finally getting out of this prison of a house. Since I was forced to take care of the entire house and prepare all the meals, I couldn't even finish school.

I hurried and finished the breakfast dishes. I still need to ensure that Julie's dress was ready to go. She got a couture Vera Wang ballgown for tonight. Another roll of jealousy hits me as I stare at the beautiful light pink gown that is adorned with crystals that she will wear tonight, while I am left with the same two t-shirts with holes, ripped jeans that are high water, and shoes that have holes in the bottom of them. Life truly was unfair.
