Anna
“What?!” Stella exclaimed. I sighed and ran my fingers through my hair. We were sitting under an oak tree, which shielded us from the intensity of the afternoon sun. I didn’t want to believe it but it was true. I had found my mate, and it wasn’t who I had been expecting to be. It had to be the one person I never thought possible; Damon Smith, my Alpha. It came as a shock and I could tell he had heard the whispers too. But he didn’t say anything. Instead, he had left with his mother. Maybe he was disappointed in me. I didn’t know how to feel. I thought it would be exciting to finally find your mate, but being the mate to the man who destroyed my pack was the most horrible thing that could happen. My pack, the Nightcrawlers, had been one of the most prominent packs in the country. We were the most feared, that was why we were usually attacked. But we were always able to defeat them. That was until they showed up. The Blue Valley pack led by Damon and his men destroyed my pack, killing my father, and taking me and the rest of the survivors hostage. I was only a little girl, but I could still remember everything that happened. And now I realized I was destined to be his mate. “Does he know about this?” Stella asked. I shrugged my shoulders. “I mean, he did turn around when I realized it so I think he does. He’s just finding it hard to believe it like I did.” “I never thought you’d be the Alpha’s mate,” she confessed. “I mean it doesn’t make any sense.” I chuckled at that. “Thanks for the support, Stella.” She laughed, her voice echoing through our surroundings. The warm afternoon breeze brushed against my cheeks, flipping my hair across my face. I pulled them away and tucked them behind my ears. Between my fingers was a blade of grass I didn’t stop looking at all afternoon. I was lost in my thoughts, thinking of what I would do about the discovery. Should I tell him, or would he come to me? I didn’t know. Then, I felt Stella’s arm around my shoulder. I looked up at her and smiled. Her long brown hair was being pulled back by the warm breeze, and I could see her hazel eyes smiling at me. “Hey. There’s no need to be down,” she said. “Today is your birthday, you’re eighteen, and you know what that means?” I arched an eyebrow at her. I didn’t understand what she was driving at. Stella had been my friend ever since I had arrived here. Though it felt like a taboo for us to be friends since she was of the Blue Valley pack, she didn’t discriminate. And that was what I loved about her most. “What are you talking about?” I asked her. She grinned at me and pulled out a little metal flask. I arched my brow even higher as I stared at it. I couldn't tell what it was. “This means you’re legal to drink alcohol,” she said with a sinister grin. I shook my head as I heard that. There was no way I was going to do that. “No. No,” I said, moving away from her. “I’m not drinking alcohol.” Stella laughed. “What? It’s therapeutic. And you sound like you need some.” I hated alcohol because of its intoxicating smell. And worst of all, it tastes like battery juice. I loathed it. There were several times I had seen Damon drinking alcohol while cleaning his place, and the smell he reeked of was usually unattractive. The last thing I needed was to smell like liquor when I got home. I would receive a huge scolding. “Come on, Anna. It’s just a little flask,” Stella pushed. I shook my head, rising to my feet. Underneath them, I could feel the grass tickling my feet. It felt so nice to be out here. This was better than staying indoors all day. Stella rose to her feet too and I could tell what she was thinking. “Stella. No. Don’t you dare!” I said, moving away from her. She jumped towards me but I pulled away just in time. She rose to her feet and came after me. A few moments later, we found ourselves running around the tree. Stella had the flask out urging me to drink it. But I only had one answer. “No.” Thirty minutes later, I handed the flashback to her as my vision became blurry. I could tell that I was intoxicated. Stella had successfully persuaded me into drinking. “And then he was like, ‘What are you staring at?’ And I was like, you, beautiful.” Stella laughed at that and reached for the flask. She tried to hold onto it, but I pulled it out of her grasp and brought it towards my mouth. I tried to drain it but found out that it was empty. My lips twisted into a frown and threw it over to Stella. She was startled when she felt the flask drop on her stomach. I stretched out and leaned back on the bark of the tree, watching the sunset. It looked so beautiful. The clouds were golden which was a reflection of the sun’s golden light. Wait. The sunset. That meant... I jumped to my feet immediately with startled Stella. She looked up at me in confusion. “What is it, Anna?” I looked at her. “It’s sunset. I’m supposed to be home before now.” “What?” She shrieked getting up on her feet. “I have to go, Stella. Thank you for today,” I said. “Wait…” she tried to say. But I darted off before she could complete her sentence.StellaI woke up to my head pounding. Someone was lying with their head down at the edge of my bed. I knew that chestnut brown hair was everywhere I went. It was Jarred. Of course, it was him. It hurt my soul that he was trying so hard to be with me. Maybe it was because I was denying the inevitable. There was no way that I was going to escape what was coming. He was mine. We were meant to be together. And my wolf wouldn’t let me rest until this became a reality. So there was no point in hiding anymore. I moved slightly on the bed, and my whole body ached. My mind flashed to the last thing I remembered. I was fighting some rights whim that had stormed into the house. I’d tried to take all of them down to protect Anna, but the last one had been just too strong for me. I’d messed up badly and that had led to Rohan cleaning up my mess for me. If he hadn’t shown up, I would be dead and something terrible would have happened to Anna. I was irritated with myself. I still want to be stro
CassianI walked down the dungeon, the cold air brushing against my cheeks. It was dark and stank of urine and dirt. The first cell I came across was the one that held Tiana, the Black Fang’s mate. Her eyes scanned mine from the darkness but she didn’t move. She’d gotten weaker over time. That was the reason she wasn't storming towards me in rage. She’d accepted her star that she wasn’t going to make it out of here. “How are you faring?” I teased with a grin. Through the darkness, I could see her squatting on the cold, stony floor with her hands hugging her knees. “Please. Let me go,” she begged, her voice hoarse. “You know what to do,” I said. She furrowed her brows weakly, unable to speak. She was going to die soon. The harsh environment of my dungeons wasn't going to keep her alive much longer. There was only one person who'd survived this dungeon for a long time. And that was Sybil, and he was a wizard. As for her, she was just a little mutt whose life was going to be wasted.
Cassian“My lord,” Isaiah called as he stopped into my study. I was standing by the window with a glass of liquor in my hand. The damp air sponsored by the heavy rainfall filled my lungs, cooling my anxiety. “Speak,” I said. “He’s here,” Isaiah said. “Then send him in at once,” I said. Isaiah left the room and I sighed before taking a sip of the amber liquid in my glass. My throat burned as the bourbon slid down to my stomach, the warm sensation it brought battling with the cold night air that flushed down my lungs. A loud thunderclap sounded in the distance and I wondered how long the rain would last. I was ready to get back out there. It was almost time. All I needed was a little insurance first. “He’s here, my lord,” Isaiah said as he stepped back into the room. I turned around and found Sebastian lurking behind him. I could see the fear in his eyes. But also the bruises that were all over his face making him almost non-recognizable. “Come forward, Sebastian,” I urged.
RohanI winced in pain as the antiseptic hit the wound on my knuckles. It stung badly, the feeling reverberating through my body. Anna looked focused as she treated my wound. I didn’t want to argue with her. She was doing this for me, and it made me wonder if she was trying her way to keep herself busy from thinking that what happened to Stella was all her fault.I was snapped back to reality by the stinging pain again. She was brushing the wound with wool now, making sure that it was clean from infection. “Isn’t that enough?” I groaned. She chuckled and looked up at me. “Big Alpha is scared?”I scoffed when she teased me. “You took down the rogues and yet you’re wincing at a little cut?” I clenched my jaw. This wasn’t the time for this. I was more concerned that she was bringing in such humor. I’d never seen her this way before. This confirmed my suspicions. She was worried about Stella and was doing her best to keep herself busy. “You know what happened to Stella isn’t your fau
Rohan“Nice work out there,” I said as I wore the black shirt. Harrison nodded in reply. I was surprised when he tried to stop me, considering that I’d stationed him at the hospital. Tonight everybody had gone over their heads, disobeying orders and doing whatever they liked. But that didn’t matter right now. What mattered was that everybody was safe and there would be no more rogues. But the feeling that this wasn’t over gnawed at me. Someone was working behind the scenes. Someone had sent the rogues after us to keep us distracted. I could tell. But who could it be? Cassian? It didn’t make any sense. Who in their right mind would work for Cassian? Or did Cassian promise them something? Rogues were notorious for being business-oriented. The person who could pay them the most had their attention. So it had to be something proposed to them. “Are you alright?” Harrison asked. “I can take care of the rest of the cleanup. You should get some rest.”I stared at him for a few moments bef
AnnaHe did it. Was it ever in doubt? He had won the battle. Of course, I wouldn't expect anything less from him. But what he did was outstanding. Time and time again, he had bailed out his people from attacks. Even though that one time he wasn’t able to save the love of his life. Maybe that was his motivation to do better. The thought of seeing someone go through what he did must have driven him to this state. It was cruel to him, but he didn’t let any of that change who he was. And that was why he was Alpha. The crowd in the hospital cheered and some of them began departing, hoping to get back home safely and meet their families in one piece. But as for the rest of the injured ones, they were going to spend the night here. And speaking of injuries, my mind flashed back to Stella. I had to get to her immediately. I wasn’t going to let her be alone. Not tonight. She’d been there with me every single night of my life. She’d done a lot for him even to the point of death. This was th
