MasukEdwin stood on the training ground, watching warriors spar. His thoughts were elsewhere, far away from the training ground.
"Alpha," Elder Leonard approached cautiously. "The pack is restless. Rumors spread quickly."
"I am doing everything I can so as to make an announcement soon," Edwin muttered, jaw tight.
Garrett’s voice sliced through the growing crowd. "If I may, Alpha."
He stood beside Vanessa—tall, poised, dangerous. Her eyes gleamed with ambition.
"My daughter has trained for this role her whole life," Garrett said, loud enough for all to hear. "She is Luna material."
"Luna material?" Edwin scoffed, not believing his ears.
Edwin’s shoulders stiffened. "Need I remind you, Garrett, this isn’t a political campaign."
"The people need strength and assurance," Garrett pressed. "Not sentiment."
"And the way you suggest a way forward is for me to ditch my mate and settle for your daughter whom you have trained for the position of Luna over the years?" Edwin roared, anger visible on his eyes.
"I implore you to calm down, alpha," Leonard suggested.
"Your subordinates are watching, and if you continue to argue with Garrett in public, this way, I am afraid that matters might get out of hands."
" It is always about what is best for the pack, for everyone. No one ever thinks of what is best for me," Edwin stated, his eyes raging with anger.
"Do you think that the moon goddess made a mistake? Giving me an omega as my mate? Do you all now question her works?"
A low murmur rippled through the warriors. Doubt. Edwin could smell it like rot in the air.
"Right!" Edwin muttered before walking away, unable to stomach the murmurs and the sight of Garrett.
Later, in the hallways of the Alpha's mansion, Vanessa cornered Edwin. Her smile was razor-sharp.
"You are slipping," she whispered, close enough that he could feel her breath. "A true leader does not let his emotions blind him."
"I don’t recall asking for your opinion," he snapped.
" And I will really appreciate it if you do not shove your face in mine or creep me out, "
"But you will remember it," she purred. "Because soon, I’ll be standing beside you... whether you like it or not. So I suggest you get used to seeing me this up close and everywhere," she seductively said.
"You must have had this in mind for so long," he replied, with no sign of surprise.
"I have always dreamt and fantasized what it would be like to be the Luna, to stand by your side, all the through the rest of my life," Vanessa dreamily said.
"I just do not seem to understand how sloppy the moon goddess can get for her to have fated Tiara, a lowlife crawling maggot to such a powerful man like you, Edwin." Twisting her face with so much disgust as she spoke.
"I would be careful of whatever it is that comes out of my mouth if I were you, Vanessa." Edwin warned, tightening his fist.
"Good thing we are not the same, alpha." She replied.
She walked closer to him, " you are a strong man, a good and upright leader, Edwin, and I am so sure that you do not want to throw it all away for a worthless omega who has nothing to offer you or the pack,"
" I get to decide what is best for the pack, Vanessa," he sharply replied.
" Neither you or your father has a say in this and I will suggest that you behave yourself,"
" We shall see about that, alpha." She turned and walked away, hips swaying as she walked away with triumph.
"Such a pathetic situation," he scoffed, running his hand through his hair.
But in the shadows above them, Tiara watched—silent, hidden.
She had crept in after feeling something gnawing at her instincts. And now she knew why.
Moments earlier, she had overheard Garrett and Vanessa in a private alcove.
"I cannot believe that the moon goddess would make such a grave mistake," Vanessa muttered, under her breath.
"Careful of what you say, darling." Her father replied, playing with his beards.
"Now, you sound like Edwin," she rolled her eyes.
" You should be careful of what you say around or to him, Vanessa. We do not want the tiniest dent on the plans that I have already set in motion." He advised.
"I do not think that he would ever accept me or get rid of that thing," she complained.
" The thought of it alone makes me sick,"
"You should know that I will never allow that to happen to you, sweetie," Garrett encouraged.
"I do not mind instigating the whole pack against him but I hope it never comes to that,"
"So what do you propose, father?" Vanessa impatiently asked.
"Once the hunt ceremony is complete," Garrett whispered, "we will finish the job. A little sleeping potion the Alpha’s wine, and you know what to do. He would have no choice but to dance to our tune. No more softness. No more weakness."
"But do you think that our plan will succeed?" She questioned.
"Are you doubting your father now? Need I remind you that I am the Beta of this pack and whatever it is I envision falls into place." Garrett replied with so much pride.
"Forgive your childish daughter, father." Vanessa playfully apologized.
Tiara’s blood froze.
They are planning to take advantage of the alpha—
And no one will even see it coming.
Her mind raced. She needed to get to Edwin—needed to tell him everything.
"Edwin Stone??" She muttered, under her breath
" Edwin Stone is the alpha, you dummy!" She finally fixed the puzzle.
She slipped quietly toward the side entrance... but before she could reach it, a hand shot out of the shadows, grabbing her wrist so firm and strong like iron.
A rough voice sneered into her ear.
"And were do you think you are going, you sneaky little rat?"
Tiara’s heart thundered. She struggled, but the spy only grinned wider.
She was trapped.
And the real battle was only just beginning.
In Garrett's mind, the battle would not only be fought with swords and claws but instead, with shadows and betrayals, right inside Edwin's own walls. With the walls tearing down on their own.The courtyard of the Dark Moon Pack roared with energy. Warriors sharpened their blades, wolf howls echoed across the ground, and the air was thick with the scent of iron and resolve. From the high terrace overlooking them, Edwin stood in full battle armor, his presence commanding, his voice booming across the packlands."Alpha," Ralph called, sounding as ferocious as ever."Ralph," Edwin called back, without taking a look at him. "What do you think?" He asked, showing his uncertainty."What do I think about what, my lord?" Ralph asked, playing dumb, acting like he had no idea about what was being said."You know what I mean, Ralph," Edwin groaned.
The storm of Garrett's rage had finally gone still, but only into something colder and darker. He sat on a chair facing the ruined table, breathing heavily. His fingers drummed against the standing piece wood. His commanders stood in silence, waiting for orders. None dared to speak, not while his eyes burned with that feral gleam. Finally, Garrett spoke. His voice was low, yet deliberate. "Forget about Edwin. Forget the council. And forget this game of politics!" he snarled, leaning in. "This war now has one purpose now. And that is Tiara."The men exchanged uneasy glances, but Garrett slammed his palm against the tent's pole."She is the root of all that has happened and all that is yet to happen. The prophecy, the whispers!""But I thought she was the rightful Luna," a voice faintly echoed."The rightful Luna?" Garrett chuckled, his eyes searching for the man like he hoped to see who had just spoken. "Even if she is the rightful Luna, they all flock to her. As long as she lives, I
Garrett's command tent reeked of sweat, steel, and bloodied scrolls. He was hunched over a long wooden table, looking over a map of the Dark Moon Pack when a trembling Ashbane courier rushed into the tent, disrupting the silence in the tent. "Who is it?" Garrett flinched, quickly picking up an arrow."A message, my lord," the boy stammered, holding out a sealed scrap of parchment. "I am sorry to barge in here, but I come bearing a message for you," Garrett snatched it, ripping it open with a clawed nail. The handwriting was rushed, almost like it had been scribbled. He read silently at first, then suddenly, his voice went loud, with each word stoking the fire in his chest:"My lord,The Alpha has imprisoned the Luna, Lady Vanessa, in the lower dungeons. She was disgraced, dragged and humiliated right before everyone who stood to see her in the alpha's residence. And to make matters worse, I heard them talk about Tiara.I know that you must be unaware of this, but she is alive. She l
Vanessa did not flinch. She tilted her head, and smiled widely. "What will you do, Edwin? Now, you are sounding all strong and solid. What will you do, huh? Lock me up? Or at the most, kill me?" She scoffed. " It still will not stop my father from achieving his goal. It will only empower him the more, and you know it."Edwin's grip tightened around her wrist. Without another word, he dragged her across the room, past the stunned maids who shrank back against the walls. Vanessa did not resist or fight back, she simply laughed, releasing a hollow, mocking sound that echoed through the corridor."Such theatrics," she mused as he pulled her into the main hall. "You always prefer dramatics when you lost control."Guards and servants froze as Edwin hauled her down the marble steps, the pack witnessing the Alpha's fury unleashed."You are going to watch what you and your delusional father have caused," Edwin snarled. "You will watch and see the lives you are gambling with for power."With th
The war tent in Ashbane's border camp was stuffy and suffocating with tension. There were maps, scrolls, and battle markers scattered across a large table. Outside, the Ashbane's warriors sharpened their blades, loaded supply wagons, and whispered rumors of the Dark Moon's growing resistance amongst themselves.Garrett paced like a caged wolf, his face darkened with fury. Across from him, Vorn, the Ashbane Alpha, lounged in his chair with a grin that did not reach his eyes spread on his face."The last two spies are yet to report back," Garrett snarled. "I thought that they were your best." He shook his head."And what is that supposed to mean?" Alpha Vorn snapped at him. "Are you doubting my strength and men?" "I do not think that I have made any statement that belittles you, but I am sorry if my words were harsh," Garrett grudgingly apologized. " But what I am saying is that, even the ones who have managed to report back to us have all been silenced.""At this point, I do not think
In the modest chamber Edwin had specially created for her, Tiara sat alone, trying to focus on the scroll in her hands. They were reports from the outer patrols, guard rotations, supply manifests. But the words blurred. Her heartbeat was so loud that she could hear it in her ears. Something was seriously wrong.Suddenly, the air in the room shifted, heavy and cold, as if unseen hands were pressing against her temples. Her vision darkened at the edges, followed by flashes. It was not a dream, not illusions, but prophecies. A battlefield drenched in ashes, not snow. Wolves, the Dark Moon wolves turning on each other amidst whispers, confusion, and broken oaths.A banner falling, Edwin's banner. At the center of this all was a figure, cloaked in the Ashbane pack uniform, standing over a fallen elder, with a smirk carved into his face. And Tiara herself... standing in the midst of it all, holding no blade, but carrying the weight of a choice that would either save or perish them all.He
The torches flickered in the narrow corridor leading to the lower chamber, the air damp and heavy with tension. Inside, Marah sat silently, staring ahead, her wrists clenched tightly on her lap. Ralph had just stepped forward.Edwin remained still, his gaze fixed on her, jaw locked in quiet resolve
Vanessa paced on the rooftop of the Alpha's quarters. Her perfectly manicured nails kept digging and scratching her palms.Edwin had been gone for three days, three days that felt like an eternity to her..“He should have returned by now,” she muttered, gluing her eyes on the road that disappeared
Garrett sat at the long council table, pacing slowly behind his chair, awaiting the outcome of the trap that had been set for Tiara.A single candle flickered between the elders, casting stretched shadows across their weathered faces.“This matter with Tiara is growing out of hand,” Elder Leonard m
The arena was dead silent.A training accident, they called it. It had happened that a rare spearhead had dislodged from the ceiling where it was hanged and it sank right into the little boy. No one expected it. No one could have stopped it.Except for one girl. The same girl they had mocked, ridi
