Syria’s POV

“Go on, Syria. Kill him.”

Valentin’s voice rang in my ears. It was heavy and commanding.

But I froze.

My hand shook as I stared down at him.

He was already on the ground. His body was beaten and bloody. His breathing was shallow and his strength was almost gone.

The knife suddenly felt heavy in my hand, heavier than it ever should have.

“Syria?”

I slowly looked up at her then said something that even I can’t believe I’d say it.

“I couldn’t do it.”

Instead of finishing him off, I let out a shaky breath and threw the knife away.

It clattered loudly across the floor. The sound was echoing in the silence. I couldn’t breathe properly. I could feel everyone’s eyes on me.

“Are you serious, Syria? What are you thinking?!”

Valentin’s voice pressed harder when she took a step forward closer to me.

“After everything he did to you?! After he killed your parents?! Your grandmother?! You’re just going to let him live? You’re just going to let him walk free?!”
