Syria’s POV

“Was she gone?”

I slowly stepped out from where I was hiding, glancing around to make sure the coast was clear. The air felt still, and the once tense atmosphere had gone quiet.

Finally.

My chest felt tight, but I forced myself to breathe. I looked around then my eyes landed on him.

I needed to go. I moved quickly, grabbing my things and preparing to leave.

Just as I was about to turn around and head toward the door, he grabbed my wrist.

His grip wasn’t too hard, but firm enough to make me stop. His sharp eyes narrowed, frustration clearly written on his face. He looked like he was running out of patience with me. I froze, not sure whether to pull away or say something.

“You forgot one thing,” he said, voice low and serious.

I bit my lower lip, suddenly nervous. I could feel his gaze drop to my lips, and my heart skipped a beat when I saw lust in his eyes. But I ignored it. I forced myself to stay focused and reached into my bag, pulling out a slip of paper with my contac
